Our stay at Luna Azul was more than pleasant. The warmth, the concern and the level of attention, makes its return and recommendations more than a simple recognition: it is a felt obligation. In addition to the unparalleled quality of the menu, the atmosphere and privacy of the hotel, they make the relationship with the owner in the end become a new friendship and it becomes a great feeling to repeat such a pleasant experience and meet again with Rolf . Exceeds the superhost rating by far
Beautiful and understated boutique hotel with gorgeous views across the forest to the sea. Our family stayed in the bungalows which had ingenious indoor/outdoor showers and large balconies with far reaching views across untouched forest. Ringside seats to watch all of the life living in the canopy. Food was very good, varied and with excellent quality ingredients but also accommodating for the simpler requirements of some of our children. Rolf and his team were the consummate hosts with a personal touch. We were each made to feel very welcome and Rolf's enthusiasm for and knowledge of Costa Rica and the local area helped us plan our days to get the most out of our stay. Our travel agent suggested that we stayed at this hotel and I'm very glad that they did. If we return to Costa Rica, we will definitely ensure we stay here again.
The wonderful Hotel Luna Azul in Ostional is run by Rolf, an excellent host. The bungalows are surrounded by nature and very well maintained. Rolf and his team take loving care of the guests. He also organizes fantastic excursions. The food is excellent, a hotel you can only wish for.
The peacefulness, atmosphere and nature were only a few highlights of Luna Azul. The food and service from Rolf and his staff was amazing. The room had a large balcony with chairs and a table to sit outside and with a wonderful nature view. They went over and above to make our stay a wonderful one. We plan on returning again soon.
We visited for a couple of days when we visited Costa Rica. The hotel was excellent, with first class food and attention from Rolf, the host. Our room was well fitted out and had an excellent, private verandah. It was wonderful sitting there at night, gazing at the Milky Way! The hotel is close to uncrowded beaches, one of which is, effectively, a reserve for turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs, which we were fortunate enough to witness. The garden of the hotel was beautifully looked after and was home to exotic (to me) butterflies. The swimming pool looked good, although that's not something we use. All in all, a first class hotel, a bit off the beaten track. We wished we had stayed longer.
We were treated with exceptional hospitality from the moment we arrived. Rolf was the perfect host—professional, friendly, and open to sharing his knowledge of the area. I recommend everything about Luna Azul—the atmosphere, nature, rooms, food, and service were all unforgettable.
This was our second visit to Luna Azul and it exceeded our high expectations. Rolf and his staff are superb hosts who take the time to make you feel at home and provide heartfelt personal service. On my first visit I left my binoculars at home - no problem, Rolf lent me his pair. To top off everything, the self described ‘foodie, Rolf’ oversees a nightly menu of the freshest fish and pasta dishes. The beaches 10 minutes from Luna Azul are beautiful, quiet and peaceful. What more could you want.
Every once in a while you find a place that for various reasons is basically perfect. Luna Azul is not the fanciest place and certainly not the most expensive place we have ever stayed but it just might be our favourite. Rolf is a perfect gentleman and the consummate hotelier. We loved chatting with him and the kind and respectful way he interacted with our 8 year old daughter was lovely. We were able to completely relax and decompress while we were there which was exactly what we needed. Breakfast and dinner were both delicious and very generous. The only thing missing was lunch. Though that made us actually leave the grounds and have some fun and tasty experiences elsewhere. Luna Azul was one of only two places we stayed at in CR. After 6 nights there we drove to a highly rated place near La Fortuna. We arrived in time for dinner and they quickly sat us and unceremoniously plonked plates of very American food down in front of us. We looked at each other and said ‘we’re not at Luna Azul anymore’. One if the great features was interacting with the other guests, they were from all over the world. The hotel is the perfect size with seven ‘cabins’. We cannot wait to return and experience the Pura Vida again. ❤️
Our family of four has visited Hotel Luna Azul two years in a row, and it's one of our favorite places we've ever stayed. Rolf, who runs the hotel, gives impeccable service and always directs us to the most worthwhile activity. He's highly knowledgeable about the area and the turtles that come to lay their eggs in Ostional. The accommodations are very well maintained and the property is gorgeous. The food is also delicious, particularly the breakfast, which gives a great start to the day. We will keep coming back!
Facilities, service and food are all absolutely top-notch. Rooms and common areas are comfortable, very tasteful. Secluded and quiet wooded setting. Overall, the best of seven hotels we visited in our recent family rip.
