Thon Hotel Ullevaal Stadion

I was visiting friends in Oslo who live near Ullevaal Stadium and they suggested this hotel as a base. What a great suggestion. The hotel is basic but very nice. Room clean, well appointed and lit and has free wifi. The big surprise was how convenient the hotel was for exploring central Oslo. The tram station, lines 4 & 5, is a very short walk away and the trip to National Theatre takes about 10 minutes. There is a grocery store and a drug store along with a number of other shops just a very short walk from the hotel. The attached lobby-level Egon Restaurant is handy. Breakfast is free, substantive, and served in a room overlooking the playing field of the Norwegian football team - Ullevaal Stadium. If I was just making a general visit to Oslo I would consider staying here for it's convenience and value.

Nice and comfortable hotel close to underground and also airport bus. A bit difficult to find the closest entrance, so I had a great walk through the shopping street. Fun to have breakfast With a view to the Stadium. Clean rooms, good breakfast.

This is a basic, but comfortable hotel adjacent to the soccer stadium and a shopping complex. It is very close to the Metro line and 5 steps from the city. Room has a coffee machine. Toiletries are not replenished every day but beds are comfortable. there is a restaurant downstairs that stays open until 11 PM. The best part was he breakfast. Good variety, good coffee, and in a place where you have a nice view of the stadium green. Prices in Norway are never cheap but this was not bad among the choices. Dry cleaning/ laundry is available in the shopping adjacent to the ground floor. Free wifi was good.

I stayed from Friday to Sunday and it was lovely. Nice shopping opportunities just outside the door and it was a nice and quiet area. It was right next door to the Ullevaal Stadion though and I assume it must be a very noisy, when the stadion is busy. Great breakfast with an amazing view over the stadion. Nice rooms. Friendly staff.

We stayed at this hotel, just a bit outside of the city centre since we needed to park the car. The hotel rooms are very clean and nice. But what makes this hotel special, is the view of the football arena at breakfast. Breakfast is the best I've had in a long time. Very friendly staff. The hotel is located in a small shopping center and with a choice of places to eat dinner. And the city centre is just a 5 min ride by metro.

If you do not have a particular reason to stay in this part of town, you might want to re-think your location. Nothing wrong with the Ullevål area, but it's mostly residential. If you want to get a taste of the action Oslo can offer, it might be more fun to be closer to the downtown areas. If you're in town for football, though, you're in the right place. Rooms are standard, clean and the beds are good. One side of the hotel faces the subway, another faces the highway, meaning that there will be some noise if you keep the windows open. The staff is welcoming and friendly, and you instantly feel at home. The big plus is the breakfast, which is served at the VIP areas of the Ullevål Stadium, and hosted by UBC, owned by the investors Fursetgruppen, also owning other excellent restaurants in Oslo like Ekebergrestauranten, Lofoten fiskerestaurant, Maaemo and Tjuvholmen Sjømagasin. Excellent choice of hot and cold options, sweet and savory, healthy and indulging.

Location of the hotel is very practical for sports events. Good rooms with everything you need (minibar, we-fee, TV). Very polite and helpful staff. Short road to Ullevål Station for football matches.

Let's start with the pros: Great service and really nice rooms. Easily accessable with the tube, which actually is a con aswell if you really hate noise because the hotel is kind of close to the railway. Although I would say the noise level was above average I really didn't mind and the tube didn't wake me up in the morning even though I slept with the window open. I only had one issue with the room in addition to the slightly noisy surroundings: If you take a 10-15 minutes shower you have to be aware of flood on the bathroom floor. The shower in my room was spilling all over the place even though they had installed a shower curtain in addition to the glass wall. Really annoying! Let's head over to the breakfast: Mostly positives here. Great selection! Fresh squeezed orange juice, boiled eggs, fried eggs, PLENTY of bacon, yoghurt, chocolate cake +++, and they also had a lot of seats. If you have read my previous reviews, you know I really like waffles for my after-breakfast coffee and I was greatly surprised when I found out they actually had waffles! The sad thing though is that the waffles was the only thing that dissapointed me at breakfast was these waffles. I found them undercooked and they also tasted a bit to much cardamom in my opinion. But hey, at least they tried! Great breakfast overall. Despite of my clothes suffering from flood damage while I showered and waffles not being as good as I would have hoped, I would still rate this hotel as above average. Even though the room really was nice I will rate it average because of the shower issue because that really was annoying. Thanks for a pleasant stay.

We were staying for a conference at the stadium, but this hotel could be a reasonably-priced (by Norwegian standards) option for those visiting Oslo for leisure. Yes, it is out of the city centre, but it's right next to a metro station which will take you downtown in less than 15 minutes. I never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a train. Ah the metro...! It's quite noisy if you're in a room facing the tracks. I'm glad it was cold enough not to have to open the windows, because otherwise it would have been a real disturbance. The room was reasonably well appointed in a modern style (if you're a Brit, think a notch up from Premier Inn/Travelodge). The shower room was clean and functional, but there was some minor maintenance issues (shower curtain track coming down, loo seat wobbly) but nothing serious. The Egon restaurant attached is furnished in a warm rustic style - nothing special but good for pizzas, burgers etc. The breakfast room overlooking the football pitch was impressive and the food delicious. All in all, an adequate and acceptable stay.

Nice room but the television did not work. The reception suggested that I used internett instead, nor very nice people. Both egg and bacon was cold at breakfast, the time was around 7:30. I stayed because of a conferance, the included lunch was the same two days in a row. The area around has a lot of shops, so you could get a meal outside of the hotel even thoug the surrounding has not much else to offer. Do not stay here if you want to visit Oslo. The only reason to stay here is if you are going to watch football on the stadium, or if you are going to a workrelated conferance.
