This is the sort of a hotel you want to stay in if you want to be: - a short (10min) walk from the train station - 1min from the central pedestrian area with shops and restaurants - close to the Parliament and other main attractions - close to the sea and vibrant marina area, plus Nobel Peace Centre - 2min walk from underground station with connection to the University Not cheap, but clean and with delicious breakfast. In fact, you want to pay for a room price that includes this sort of breakfast, rather than have to pay for another meal in expensive Oslo. Caution: the rooms overlook the hotel restaurant wchich is an atrium. So windows and balcony doors open to this view. It didn't annoy me as I didn't spend much time in my room anyway. Plus, it is very quiet, since there is no noise from the street. Nice extra: free coffee and fruits at the lobby.
very nice hotel, clean and close to the City Center ! Very good breakfast and service. Unfortunately no bar, so a drink in the evening is not possible, but nevertheless a good choice for business and also for families.
This hotel is in my top 5 of Europe so far! The location is super convenient, just a couple blocks from city hall, the metro, the tram, and the opera house. The beds are super comfy, the room was spacious, and the best bathrooms with "real" sized shower and heated floors! The breakfast was yummy with everything you could want fro eggs to meats to full yogurt/fruit bar and plenty o coffee. If you can get a good price, stay here- you will not be dissapointed.
The lobby is small and the staff are friendly. We noted that a few other bus loads of people were staying here. We had a triple room which was basically a double room with a roll-in bed - disappointing. The bathroom was clean, water pressure was good, the towels were thick and clean and the furnishings were comfortable. The breakfast was quite expansive, with great bacon, yogurt and bread that left an impression.
I read the reviews raving about the breakfast, it is large American style buffet served with extended hours (7-10 weekdays, 8-11 weekends - contact hotel to confirm hours during your stay). This breakfast was the best meal we had in Oslo (stayed 3 nights). Oslo does not have great restaurants, certainly not at any kind of moderate price. The food is good, but nothing special or memorable. This hotel is memorable! Very close to the Theater Station, easy access to and from airport train, umbrellas to borrow, apples in the lobby until they last, coffee and tea in the lobby all day. Just loved it! Book here, you won't be disappointed and this hotel can save you some money!.
We had no problem with our room in this clean, comfortable and modern hotel. The location couldn't be better. And a very nice breakfast is provided. True the lobby is small, but we don't hang out there anyway. The front desk staff were nice and helpful. I would definitely stay at the Cecil again, It's a fine hotel.
I have stayed in a lot of hotels and I have to say Hotel Cecil is pretty darn good. Nice room with comfortable beds and nice linens. Towels are good and the water is super hot in the shower. Very friendly front desk crew who where kind and o helpful. And oh by the way, an incredible breakfast buffet. Yep! I'd co,e back here. Location. Location!!
Stayed at the Thon Cecil for two nights. The location of the hotel is ideal. Close to everything with a short walk. Public transportation to Vigeland Park is also just a short walk away. The lobby is small, crowded and unimpressive. The staff is friendly but overworked so there are lines at check-in/check-out. The rooms are small but adequate. The included breakfast is very nice with many hot and cold options. But for these minor complaints, Thon Cecil would rate a 5th star. But, I would not hesitate to recommend it.
Hotel Cecil on the plus side: * Front desk staff courteous, congenial and helpful * Location is fantastic! Easy walking to ferries, theater, parks, shopping, restaurants. Five minutes from station with express train to airport. * Breakfast buffet excellent. A very well kept & stocked offering of assorted whole grain crackers and breads. Cereals. Jams and spreads. Fish, cheeses, cold cuts. Fruits, yoghurts, kefir and dairy offerings. Eggs, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, baked beans and potatoes. Juice and coffee. This is the type of buffet breakfast I enjoy very much. And the buffet is maintained in pristine condition. * Bathroom floors are heated. On the "could be improved" side: * Rooms need an update. There are unpatched holes in the walls and tiles where fixtures or art were formerly hung. Grout in the showers is stained. * the first night, I stayed in a junior suite, and it had a very stained rug in the living area. There were wear marks on the walls. It didn't feel like the room lived up to the price. It just wasn't that nice. * next two nights, I stayed in a regular room. There were no outlets by the bedside, so I could not simultaneously use and charge my phone while in bed. Overall, the hotel was good. The location is superb. The room condition just left me feeling like I wasn't getting value for what I was paying.
Good budget hotel... good value for what you pay. Service was very good. Friendly people that were focused on customers. Location is good. Free breakfast. Walkable to main areas and transportation. Bed was comfortable and bathroom was ok...not big but fine enough and clean.
