The absolute best thing about the hotel is the breakfast buffet (I unfortunately did not partake in the afternoon snacks or the dinner - I wish I had!). It's an older feel of a hotel, more traditional, actually quite romantic. I prefer a more modern style, which you can get in the Citybox, Comfort Xpress hotels. Do the math - if you're someone who loves to eat out, then this hotel may not necessarily make sense for you financially because you have so much food included. However, if you're on a budget and you're staying with others, this is a great place to get value for your money.

Small but nice and homely Hotel centrally located in Oslo, only a ten minutes walk to Oslo Sentral Railway/Bus Station and pedestrian zone, Karl Johan Street. Extraordinary good service and a good free evening buffet! Arrive late? No problemo!

Even thaugh it was a business trip I felt like at home. Nice atmosphere, nice food and professional staff. The hotel is located in a quiet place. I strongly recomend Nordic Choice Hotels especially the one in Oslo.

I was really impressed with my two nights at the Hotel Bastion. First of all, and most importantly, you have TWO meals included with your room. Many places include breakfast but I have never stayed in a hotel that also gives you a free (and quite good!) dinner as well. They also provide a snack of pancakes in the afternoon. Food (and everything else) in Oslo is very expensive, so getting two meals included will save an individual or family a lot of money. Location was convenient. A short 7-8 minute walk from the train station/subway. Karl Johans Gate, the main shopping street was maybe 5 minutes away. The room was pretty nice as well. I booked a "deluxe" room- Room 614- using my Choice Privilege Points. For it being the top level of room, I thought it could've been a bit bigger and the furniture was a little tired looking (stains and holes on the desk chair) but the bed was comfy and clean, as was the bathroom, so in the end that's all I really care about. Would I stay here again when in Oslo? Definitely!

I have been to Oslo twice before and stayed in "budget" hotels which were of high quality and- high price. Even for a fellow Nordic country citizen like me, Norway is really pricey, especially hotelwise. This time we, my husband and I, decided to pay a bit (but only a bit) more for the hotel, Clarion Bastion, because of the good reviews it had got and, more importantly, the fact that light dinner was included in the price. I booked the room on the hotel website two months prior to our visit and paid 360 euros for the 3-night stay. Oslo gets heavy on the wallet, so we calculated that not having to pay for dinner this hotel would be worth it. And it was. The location of the hotel is convenient, a short walk from the railway station and the main shopping/sights area. Perhaps the environment isn't the most picturesque one, but the main thing was what was inside the building. There we found a cosy and impeccably clean twin room with a seating area, comfy beds, solid wifi and even a small fridge. The breakfast was excellent: everything was fresh and plentiful, even on Sunday morning when the smallish dining room was packed. The efficient staff handled the situation well. The afternoon snack was coffee, fruit and do-it-yourself pancakes. The dinner consisted of salad buffet, warm dish (every day different) and soup. There was enough to eat even for a bigger hunger, and I heard later that if you're a veggie, you can ask for a vegetarian option (I am and I didn't, but the soup, bread and salads did it for me). Considering the price of eating out in Oslo, we had no complaints about the food included in the room price in Clarion Bastion. I would definitely stay in the hotel again.

Booked a room for single occupancy and arrived at the hotel to be shown into a small closet with a bed that I could hardly fit into - so lesson number 1. Don’t book a single room unless you are comfortable in a pod. Went back to the reception and the really wonderful front office staff (Mathilde) was very kind and helped to change into a larger room (which was thankfully available). So lesson 2. When you have a problem, a good hotel staff member can make a difference and still rescue your stay(esp if you ask nicely) The hotel is well located and staff across all departments - front desk, the staff at breakfast service and house keeping - are all wonderful and go out of their way to make you comfortable. The breakfast isn’t much to write home about - very basic, but sufficient choice of fruits, juice, eggs and hams and cheese. Rice crackers and gluten free choices are available.

Clean. Very good location. Excellent breakfast.Close to all Oslo attraction.Speed WiFi.Near to Opera house. You can come from central station walking. It is seven min far away. Unfortunately no complementary water in the room.

This hotel is OK. We had half board. The breakfast was very good. Supper was a no-choice buffet that was quite acceptable. Our room was spacious but a little tired. The location is good for the central railway station. Oslo city centre is a bit of a mess architecturally but you can walk to many places of interest from the hotel easily enough.

Reading some of the mixed reviews here, I did wonder if some people had been reviewing a different hotel!! Firstly, we found all the staff so friendly and helpful, particularly in the small restaurant! We did book an upgrade to a deluxe room, Room 515, which we really liked....spacious and very comfortable bed Norway is a very expensive country and hotels/restaurants are going to cost you!! We had a leaking bath and staff on reception were polite and quick to put things right....in the end we decided to stay in room 515 because it suited us Our room was well cleaned and restocked on a daily basis....windows were opened to let air in which we liked and our room always looked fresh and clean Small things perhaps we should have mentioned to reception but didn't such as....hairdryer was broken and the iron had a dangerous frayed flex and maybe not so good after we had paid for an upgrade...we decided not to make a fuss about it in the end But, those were our decisions and overall we think this hotel is a great place! Evening meals were incredibly welcoming...healthy options and plenty of food and we loved the soups! ! Well done to all the staff in this hotel and the smiling, polite and courteous staff in the restaurant!

We spent 4 nights at the Clarion Collection Hotel Bastion at the end of a 3 week Scandinavia tour. We found the hotel to be quiet good. It isn't a modern hotel but it is well located in central Oslo with all the main attractions within an easy walk. We had a comfortable room for our stay but others in our tour group did report that some rooms were small. The hotel offers included breakfast and dinner daily and while the choice is not extensive what is offered is of a good standard and this is a nice and unexpected touch also afternoon tea is also provided daily. The hotel also has pleasant sitting areas which provide a place for a quiet drink after a day of sight seeing. The hotel has excellent staff who are very friendly and helpful. I am happy to recommend this hotel we enjoyed our stay.
