Clarion Collection Hotel Bastion4.0 out of 5.0

Spent two nights here at the end of a long tour. Not the most comfortable of stays with rooms that are very small, even by Scandinavian standards. The bathroom is even smaller with access to the shower a real struggle. Morning food service is basic fare. Central to the city (just a few blocks away) with easy access to the marina and opera house.
The Clarion Hotel Bastion is conveniently located about a 6 minute walk from the central station. Not only is it easy to access the airport, but it is also simple to catch a bus or tram to go anywhere in town. Aside from the location, Clarion Hotel Bastion is a wonderful place to stay and includes a large breakfast buffet, afternoon pancakes, and dinner (tacos were served the night we stayed). Coffee, tea and fruit are provided 24 hours a day and there is a small gym and sauna available for guest use.
Conviently located; clean; friendly and a reasonable price! We walked to and from the train station. The hotel seems to cater to bus tour groups, but it worked just fine to be an independent travel group. Kids loved the breakfast variety. Dinner seemed good, we just ate in the city since we were out and about.
This was our final stay in Norway. While the hotel seemed to be out of the main city area it was really on the edge of all that. Just a couple of small blacks walk to the Main Street of Karl Johan gate. The room was a satisfactory level - clean and well furnished. We faced the street and while this was a little noisy during the day, nighttime noise was limited. The bathroom was small but room was made by having a shower recess that closed into wall. Overall good to very good.
This is a very comfortable hotel (although the shower was very tiny). Free WiFi that worked fine, rooms were clean. The front desk staff was very, very good. It was an easy walk from Oslo Central Station on a dry day. It includes a free evening meal. The meal was adequate, particularly if you don't want to go out and search for a restaurant. Only one choice of main dish, but they post the menu by mid day so you can make up your mind. Breakfast also is included, it was a typical Scandinavian hotel breakfast, not exciting but very adequate. The "afternoon snack" didn't always work out, it was just make-your-own pancakes and it often was shut down before the posted closing time, unfortunately The best part for us was that they have a clothes washer and dryer in the basement, for a modest fee. And it includes the soap. This was a very welcome feature since we had been traveling for several weeks already. I would stay here again. Comfortable but not luxury.
The location was super to us: close to the opera (where we went three times), close to the train station (and all the trams) close to Karl Johan, the main shopping street. Food for free as much as you would not need any more food at all! And good as well! The rooms are clean and nice. Rooms in the back are darker and in the front VERY light. Beautiful! We would very much like to go back!
The location is excellent as it is close to train station and downtown activities, yet just far enough away so the it is quiet in the evening. Breakfast is excellent and dinner is OK. Excellent value overall with the free meals. Hotel is clean and staff are very helpful.
Hotel is located just a few minutes walk from the trainstation. It is almost opisite the Opera. Short walk to main street as well, Karl Johan. The room was nice, but the bathroom is really really small. You need a Delux room to get a decent size on the bathroom. Included is a small evening buffet, and breakfast. Food is good. The staff was very professional and helpful.
First of all, the location couldn't be better. Maybe 5 minute walk from the train station where you can reach the airport. The shore and the hop-on hop-off cruise is equally close. There was a lot of construction work all over Oslo so had to switch from one side of the road to the other a couple times. I had read reviews about some street walkers in the area but perhaps that was just some issue of the past. Nothing to worry about here. We arrived early in the morning so our room wasn't ready. We were offered an upgrade which we refused (mistake #1). The Oslo Pass advertised that it was sold in hotel receptions - it was not sold in this one (mistake #2, had to wait in line for 40 minutes at the railway station). We left our luggage in the luggage room and came back in time for afternoon pancakes. The staff was really friendly and the check-in was effortless. The room was on the small side but it was clean, had everything we needed and the decor was old but cute. The window however might as well be boarded up -that's how bad the view was: a moldy roof, a wall, somekind of air-conditioning unit and the window to another room. You could see a hint of the sky only if you pressed your cheek into the glass. I saw someone open the window in the other room and couldn't stop thinking that some weirdo could easily walk the roof to our window. We had the curtains mostly closed. The leaflets in the room could've been more informative about the hotel and the city of Oslo. One of them just tried to make me feel guilty about eating meat and using water and towels at the hotel :D No safety-deposit box was also unusual (available at the desk as are Oslo city-guides). The food was one of the best parts of the hotel and we will probably look for similar arrangements in the future. Breakfast, afternoon tea with diy-pancakes and an evening snack was included in the price. Someone left the afternoon tea disappointed because the pancake batter bowl was empty and they were too shy to ask the kitchen for more. We asked and soon enjoyed some nice pancakes. The evening snack (or should I say dinner) was also good and we didn’t have to go to bed hungry. The soup was especially delicious! Oslo was quite hot during our visit and the room must've been at least 25 degrees. It was quite sweaty but still we slept really well. The tv had surprisingly few english programs but we did find some watchable movie for the night. We spent some time trying to get the air-conditioning to work, which we later found out was actually a control for the bathroom floor temperature. The hotel has no air-conditioning (mistake #3). I wouldn't recommend that particular room but all in all our stay in Oslo was lovely and effortless.
If i had written this review the first night, it would have been titled, "nightmare in oslo". I had a terrible start to my stay in this hotel. I had 2 cold showers and I was scalded. The first room i was in was ridiculously small. I had to sleep with my luggage on the bed as there was no room on the floor for it. The floor tiles in the tiny shower had something spilt on them making them dangerously slippery and there was also dramas about moving rooms twice. But the receptionist at the hotel was an angel. She sorted everything out for me efficiently and really turned it all around for me. I can honestly say without her help i may have left the hotel. The room i have now is great. Everything you need. Check your booking carefully as there is a big difference in the quality of the rooms at this hotel. Breakfast average
