Using the shower, made the whole bathroom wet and unusable for next person. Lazieness from management that this has not been fixed after many years of operation. This is not to care for guests. We had a familyroom. It was facing the main road with a lot of noice . Not family friendly- for kids who need to sleep early.
The hotel has good facilities nice pool table our room was nice and the walks out the back to the island are nice for an evening stroll We booked a superior double which was stated that it would come with two double beds, when we saw the room I went down to complain and was told that no other rooms were available as they were full, I went back to my room which was small and had two single beds with a wall between them so couldn't even be pushed together, read my booking confirmation and went back to show the guy at reception who magically found me a room which had a double bed and a pull out sofa bed and was much nicer! Also the al a carte menu is only available in Norwegian, ok we were in Norway but for a hotel which surely has guests from all over the world surely it makes sense to have some menus in English?
My sister and I stayed at the Scandic Valdres in Fagernes for three nights while traveling throughout Norway. We had a room with a balcony facing the lake...It was so nice to sit on the deck and enjoy the beautiful scenery with our morning coffee. The hotel is very nice with nice and helpful staff. The buffet breakfast was excellent and the evening meal we had was very good.
Just one night but quiet, clean and over average for Norwegian standard. Actually the first positive surprise, hotel-wise, in two weeks. Service personell were professional and very caring. Pro family attitude, different than in other places we experienced lately. Thank you.
The hotel itself is nothing out of the ordinary and rather expensive. The surrounding is nice, but then again you are in one of the nicest parts of the world so within just 50km you'll find even better surroundings:-). Nice clean rooms, again just as expected. The breakfast was nice but a bit limited selection, so if you're lucky you love the breakfast if you're unlucky you will not find what you like.
This is mixed for two specific reasons: one small elevator and the floors in the newer wing are not on the same level as the elevator. Not a huge number of steps but somebody with knee issues will not be smiling! On a tour usually porterage is included but we were warned it would be slow (# of porters and elevators!). Two...after showering, just turning on the aging hairdryer caused it to die taking the plug it was wired onto with it. A call to the desk was answered politely but apparently no substitute was procured. Went to bed with damp hair resulting in a cold! What fun on vacation. Positives-buffet dinner was generous with cold Scandinavian selections but hot buffet was limited. They did offer Flan for dessert! Breakfast buffet was generous.
The back of the hotel is the lake, where there is a bridge you can walk to a deserted island which is kind of unique experience. The property is quite OK in its public area, but the room need to refreshing touch in my opinion. The location is good, there is a KIWI Pris (Supermarket) diagonally opposite the hotel. The dining area is hugh, food is reasonable. One thing that the hotel scores extremely high - The Fitness Centre. This is one of the best Fitness Centre I have ever seen for a 4 star hotel. I believed they open up for members hence they keep upgrading the gym to satisfy their members' requirement.
Nice, tidy room. Gentle staff. Excellent breakfast. Nice swimmingpool, and lovely surroundings. Relaxed and at the same time very clean and tidy everywhere; except the play-room for children. Lovely paintings and photos. The massage-chair in the training center is a must:-)
Nice hotell, with a very good location in the middle of the town. Big family rooms, clean. Missed bacon for breakfast, other than that very good food, highly recommended for families. Nice to take s night or two if your going to east or west Norway!
We booked a Family Standard Plus size room and got a very nice room that fitted all 4 of us. The room was divided in several sections, and was comfortable, inviting and a nice place to stay in the afternoon. No bathtub though. The beds were nice and we had a good night sleep. The hotel is just in the center of everything in the valley town of Fagernes. Outside is a wonderful park by the lake with play areas for kids and even a beach for the brave...as the water is quite cold here in the north... The dinner buffet was affordable, but limited. The breakfast buffet was better though, with a good variety of choices. Free parking outside the hotel ;-)
