This was a very nice hotel, attractive old building, a short walk from centre of York and most main places to visit. Staff very attentive and helpful, good varied choice for breakfast. Would return and definitely recommend.
We booked through a 2 night deal voucher deal and from experience at other hotels thought we'd get a small dingy room in the basement or the rafters. But we were pleasantly surprised to get a fairly spacious, lovely decorated room in the back of the hotel. We were told that we'd only get to park the car in the car park for one of the nights but it turned out we got both nights. Dinner was included for one of the nights and we enjoyed a lovely meal in the restaurant which is set in alcoves in the basement. The breakfast was lovely too. I'd recommend booking this hotel as it has much more character than modern built hotels at comparable prices and is a pleasant stroll into the centre of York, either along the road or down by the river.
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. the staff are very friendly and helpful at all times. Our room and bathroom was lovely, it felt so fresh and clean. It is also in a fairly quiet area so we were able to enjoy a good nights sleep, followed by such an excellent breakfast. The food at this hotel is beautifully cooked and presented, the restaurant has a nice relaxed atmosphere. We so enjoyed our stay here, my sister is very slightly disabled, however, there are 2 lifts serving Basement to 2nd floor. Would definitely recommend a stay here.
100% customer service from arrival . Room spotless and very quiet and comfortable. Food and service faultless. Staff very attentive. Nothing to much trouble. Would not hesitate to recommend to family and friends
We booked a two night stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary in York, booked via Booking.com. We arrived around 630 in the evening to find the small car park completely full. The receptionist advised us that we could park on the local streets until 10 in the morning. As we were staying two nights, this wasn’t too much of a problem as by the time we had finished breakfast, some of the other guests had left and there was a space for us to relocate our car. Be warned though – Tripadvisor and Booking.com make no mention of the £10 per night charge for parking; in fact Tripadvisor states free parking. It was a little frustrating as parking was one of the main facilities we searched for in a hotel. After pointing this out to the receptionist she offered to waive the charge ‘on this occasion’. Parking aside, we were not disappointed with the hotel. We were in room 32 which is in the original house (top floor) and faces onto the main road outside. The room was well appointed and clean. Shower had loads of pressure. Bathroom was missing a shaving mirror though which would be easy to put right. It was very hot during our stay and the room did not have AC. A fan was available in the room but this didn’t really help us sleep any better. We had to open the window in the end and put up with the traffic noise. Breakfast was excellent and served in the restaurant. We didn’t have any other meals in the hotel. There are some excellent restaurants and bars within walking distance. In summary, the hotel is perfectly located for enjoying the sights of York with a 5 minute walk to the Minster. Being an old building, you have to compromise and accept things like air con and car parking are not so readily available.
We stayed at the Grange Hotel for 3 nights with 2 rooms when visiting family in York. Was an ideally located on the north side of the City Centre but yet only 10 mins walk from York Minster so well positioned. Staff were all friendly, we had a good breakfast every morning and found the private car park ideal as we were coming and going each day. Beds were comfortable with a recent refitted bathroom. Furniture was best described as traditional but not a big thing. Overall, we had a very good stay at the Grange and was ideal for our visit to York.
My sister and I spent the morning on the 1st of July at the gin tasting class in this classic hotel. Still and Heart the two ladies who run the classes were very knowledgeable, we learned so much about the history of gin, naturally the best bit was the sampling....Black Tomato gin being my favourite. We had a delicious lunch in the Ivy Brasserie served by friendly and professional staff. A lovely Christmas gift, we live in York and Harrogate so didn't stay, however we met some very nice people who were staying at the hotel and highly recommended it.
Booked the grange for my birthday weekend in york and had a lovely 2 night stay.. We had originally booked 2 premier rooms along with another couple but was informed one was out of action so we'd been upgraded to the suite which was a nice surprise as it was my 30th.. I do think without the upgrade I'd of thought it was a little expensive looking at the Premier room the other couple had. The breakfasts were lovely and had plenty of choice the hotel was very clean and tidy and our room was modern and spacious with a separate lounge with a sofa desk and tv.. large bathroom with walk in shower and separate bath. Walk in wardrobe with large mirror was handy! Car parking at the rear ten pounds per night. A short walk to the centre of about ten minutes. An enjoyable weekend was had
We stayed for 2 nights and were vert impressed with the friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness of the room and the delicious meals especially the breakfast. The choices of the breakfast menu was very extensive.
Very good location a few minutes walk in to York and a handy car park. The rooms were fine , my only concern there was a bath with shower over and due to a bad back could only just manage to get into bath . (should have asked for a room with a shower and I am sure it would have been arranged) The restauant was very good and would recommend, very.interesting menu .
