If you bring your car it is imperative that a parking place is reserved in advance when booking, as there are very few places on site. Hotel nice enough, but our room (superior) was a little small and unloved, for a 4 star I would expect better attention to detail. Woodwork on doors and architraves was badly chipped in places, soap dish on shower wall broken with sharp edges, a replacement is on order, apparently. TV in bathroom had very few channels, not that I wanted to lay there watching the news, but why install it if it has very few channels, the tile grout was very stained and some was missing. Reception man on arrival looked like he'd slept in his shirt, very unprofessional. Lady on check out didn't even ask if we'd enjoyed our stay, had better interaction with reception staff in a Premier Inn, didn't feel like we were valued guests. On a plus, the hotel is clean, is very close to the city centre and looks lovely from the outside.

I was attending a school reunion and we had a function in the restaurant on Saturday night .The food for our buffet was first rate with high quality meats , a beautifully decorated and very large salmon and very good salads .The bar area was however very small and as a result not easy to get served . My room was nothing special and I felt as though I could hear everything in neighbouring rooms and the corridor . Breakfast very good with wide choice and freshly cooked main courses .Hotel certainly in a very good location for tourists visiting York .

My son and daughter in law booked this hotel for their wedding venue as it was perfect to host their small family only occasion. The hotel has lovely individual rooms, and has recently upgraded the dining area. The hotel staff were lovely and attentive and everything went well on the day. The only down side for me is the quirky layout of the rooms and the amount of stairs. The lifts only access certain floors too. The parking was not free as stated in some information and is currently £10 per night. The allow dogs, which was perfect for our needs, but might not suit some. The breakfast was excellent and filling, the wedding food was good too.

Stayed with my partner at the end of April, room was very nice & clean nice big bathroom, staff were very pleasant, over all we enjoyed our stay, only one thing that was disappointing, having told the hotel prior to our stay thst my partner is vegan and reception staff kindly asked if there was anything we would like, we asked for vegan sausages to be provided for breakfast time which sadly were not. Aside from that very pleasant stay & nice hotel.

This is a nice little gem of a hotel. Located about a 10 minute walk from the Bootham Bar entrance with all the shops and restaurants within walking distance. Rooms are clean and sizes vary. Parking lot in back. Staff very accommodating and friendly. The room we were in was large and fairly newly renovated. No elevator, so beware if a few stairs are an issue for you. Great restaurant and bar onsite. Large common area for lounging. I would stay here again.

The Grange is a lovely, comfy treat, esp if like us you are breaking your journey further north. We had a very good nights sleep after an excellent dinner. Then set off to start our journey north after a very tasty breakfast. The staff in the restaurant esp really looked after us, thank you.

We went to the Grange for a meal wit relatives visiting from Coventry. We had drinks in a cosy room glowing with a roaring fire. We were able to sit and chat in comfort before going downstairs to the Ivy restaurant where we had a delicious 3 course meal. Nothing was too much trouble and we were able to change the side order with our meal. looking forward to a return visit, maybe on a Gin tasting night...

Pros Very clean Great bed, pillows etc Good strength shower Good breakfast Friendly staff Cons Paint fumes. Don't know what it was but the whole reception area smelt. Luckily not in rooms. Very thin walls - you can here EVERYTHING!! Wedding - put in a room above the main reception area where a wedding was going on. Not part of the wedding so was noisy while trying to sleep. Room was hot - wasn't an issue first night as could open the window. Couldn't with wedding going on as too noisy outside too. Suggestion for management put non wedding guests at back of hotel, away from wedding. Breakfast day after wedding, service was poor. Long waits and orders wrong. It's a shame as this spoilt our visit. I understand the venue does weddings but other visitors should be considered too.

We came to the Grange to attend a Gin Tasting which was a Christmas present. However, as we live some way from the hotel we booked a room and stayed. We booked dinner bed and breakfast for two and it came to £200. The room was on the ground floor, behind reception facing onto the main road. Traffic noise was NOT an issue as the windows are double glazed. It was a small but, never the less, clean comfortable room with everything you could need or want. Brilliant shower. The staff we polite and very helpful. Would we come again? Yes.

Great hotel just outside of the city centre of York. It's about a 10 minute walk into the action of York, but further enough out to not be disturbed by noise. We ate in the restaurant which was lovely. Good variety of food for a Pescatarian. Would go again.
