We stayed at the hotel to go to the Races and also celebrate my partners birthday as we have done previously for 2 or 3 years and thoroughly enjoyed it.We love the hotel, the staff are always friendly and helpful, we loved our room overlooking the river,it's so near the centre of town and we always enjoy the breakfast. We'll most certainly be back again.
Room clean, well equipped, comfortable with everything we needed for a short break. Hotel within walking distance of shops and city sights. Good selection of food at breakfast and evening meal was most enjoyable in good surroundings with friendly, helpful staff.
Stayed here for a weekend break. The hotel is in a great location just walking distance from the centre. The rooms are basic but perfectly adequate. Quite noisy of an evening with a nightclub/bar down the road Food was hit and miss however breakfast was good. Hotel is ok but wouldn't pay over the odds for it
We have stayed here a few times over the last few years and have not been dissapointed. The hotel is certainly in need of a refurb, looking very tired and shabby. Rooms need air conditioning. Room was clean, towels were so hard actually scratched your skin. Carpet grubby. . Breakfast was plentiful and good as usual. Shame the hotel is not what it could be,and what it deserves to be with the excellent staff that work there. We would come back as location is excellent .
My wife and I stayed here on Friday 16th June for 1 night after the York races. We had a very pleasant stay. On arrival it was very fraught as one would expect on race meeting weekend. Our room wasn't ready on arrival but within a 10 minute wait in a comfortable chair we were able to go to our room and change into our racing ensemble. Very pleasant staff and helpful The rooms are charming, clean and all you need for the night. Very close to all the amenities that York has to offer. Well done!!
Excellent 1 night stay in the Queens hotel. Lovely room overlooking the river with great views over York. Lovely 3 course evening meal and the English breakfast was plentiful. Friendly staff in all areas of the hotel. We will definitely consider this hotel if we stay in York again.
Location, location, location they say and in the case of the Queen's Hotel in York it is certainly a factor. The hotel is situated in the centre of the historic city, by the river and close to many of the historic sites and tourist attractions. Looking for a hotel for a two night city break, the Queens Hotel offered these advantages. Additionally, important for us, was the fact that the hotel was also only ten minutes walk from the railway station. We arrived late on a Friday night, having advised the hotel we would be late, the staff were welcoming and friendly. We had asked for a quiet room and on an upper floor and we were allocated a room looking into the inner courtyard and it was quiet! As I mentioned above the hotel is near the river and close to a number of bars with open air terraces, these can, of course, get busy and noisy but we were certainly not disturbed by any noise. The hotel is currently undergoing a 'progressive' refurbishment so there are areas that require some TLC but generally the interior fixtures and fittings are well maintained. Our room was large, containing double and single beds. There was ample 'hanging' space and shelves for laying out clothes. There was a desk with chair and another chair at its side. There was a TV on the desk which I thought was a little small given the size of the room and current trends in TV design and fitting. There were useful bedside tables too. The bathroom was small but functional. There was a bath and shower. I used both to good effect. The shower had a good amount of force and one of the simplest combined bath/shower fittings that I have used, one way for the bath, the other way for the shower, no pulling, no pushing and no magical levers or buttons. Clean, good quality towels were provided along with some soap, shower gel etc.. We were on a bed and breakfast tariff and while the breakfast provided was alright it just lacked a bit of variety and a bit of flair. I suspect this is, largely due to trying to keep the cost down and I appreciate that but it was a little uninspiring. The breakfast was served buffet style and there were hot and cold offerings. Hot dishes included, bacon, scrambled eggs (other types available on request), sausages, mushrooms and tomatoes that bubbled away in a disk resembling red hot lava. There was white and brown toast. There were pastries, brioche and croissant, but not of the highest quality and rather sad and squashed looking under their plastic cover. Fruit juice was served but the choice was limited and wasn't very cold when I got to them. Coffee and tea were provided, nothing wrong with what was provided, but the first day it was a DIY job with sachets, as in our room, on the second day pots of coffee were available. So, as I mentioned above, lacking a bit of variety and flair. The food was all edible and most of a reasonable quality but I think the serving area requires some rethinking, this feels cramped and awkward and makes the DIY serving difficult, and I would suggest a greater variety if cereals and pastries. The rooms have free wifi, tea and coffee making facilities. In general, the staff we met were friendly and helpful. We didn't use the hotel bar or have dinner in the hotel restaurant. As ever the true test of a hotel is whether I would return. If I were going back to York for another 2-3 night break I would have little hesitation in going back. The main plus point is, of course, the location but the clean, well maintained rooms and friendly staff also make the hotel a welcoming, comfortable place to stay. The breakfast wasn't quite so good but for two days is certainly adequate, on a longer stay I think this might become more of a factor.
this is a good quality hotel on the river , great location for all tourist attractions, very good breakfast comfy beds, rooms are all clean and tidy with maid service and the staff are very helpful ... defiantly would recommend
We have just returned from a weekend in York and stayed at the Queen's Hotel, it's very central to the city, a good place for going on the river, and near to the many eating out places York has to offer. The hotel it self is very clean and well kept, the room we had was large and spacious, the restaurant is open to members of the public as well. We found this hotel to be great value for money.
Visited for 2 night stay on wowcher deal. Good location. Very pleasant staff. Rooms were okay, needed more attention to detail on dusting lampshades, skirting boards etc. Not impressed on fire evacuation procedures...... I am disabled with mobility issues and at no point was I advised what I should do if fire broke out. Unable to use lifts but my attention was not bought to any stay put policies etc which being on 3rd floor would have been useful. I was also quite upset about how they deal with items left behind. I forgot my hair dryer and on calling them was told had been found. In order to return it to me they would charge postage and a £5.00 admin fee. Postage maybe but admin fee does not bode well for customer service. There attitude to returning item has rather tainted my view on the hotel experience. Good stay but hope if disabled there is no fire and ensure you don't forget anything.
