I booked The Queens Hotel for it is in the centre of York. The deal was £129 for bed breakfast and evening meal then an extra £10 for the overnight car park. The room was clean and everything was fine. The only time we could have evening meal was 8pm which again was nice. Soup for starter, carvery for main and a choice of deserts. We had a room on the 3rd floor with a velux window in the roof however we still had a view of the river Ouze. In the morning whilst getting ready to start the day we had a phone call from the desk telling us that the car park was flooding as the river had burst its banks and would we move the car to a NCP car park about 5mins walk away and we would have to pay for the parking. My partner did this immediately. However after a lovely breakfast i stopped at the desk and asked would i get a refund as it wasn't our fault the river banks had burst its banks and we were paying twice for the car park. We were told no i was not due a refund as the car had been there overnight, We had to pay £7.50 for 3 hrs in the NCP car park whilst we had our breakfast and got our belongings together.. I think under the curcumstances the hotel should have paid for the parking.
3 star at 3 star prices. It is what it is, no frills. Public areas just average but our room was spacious comfortable and clean. The hotel is perfectly located right on the river and close to all the sights. Breakfast is excellent albeit the room is small and can't cope if all guests descend at once. We would return.
We have stayed in many hotels in York over the year's but this overnight stay was exceptional. From the reception staff to the bar staff to breakfast staff this morning so welcoming so comfortable . We would strongly recommend this hotel to any traveller and in future won't be booking any other hotel.
Lovely nice clean rooms. Lovely welcoming staff it's a lovely places to stay at this hotel great full English breakfast too would definitely recommend this hotel 👍🏻😁nice bar too . Close to York river markets shops and bars easy to get around the places and easy to find your way back to base 👌🏻
We were only staying for a couple of nights and stayed in room 49 which was lovely over looking the river. The reception is not exactly what you would expect. It is in need of refurbishment and very untidy. However the ladies behind the reception where lovely. Room 49 is on the second floor and does have a very nice view over the river but apart from that and very nice clean sheets and towels the rest of the room is basic and very 80's The furniture is old and tired and I cant find anything else to say that is kind. The bathroom was much the same. The bath which was iron had lots of bits of the enamel off the bottom which looked nasty and around the bath handles looks grotty. It was clean enough but just not nice. We came to be staying at this hotel through woucher and it cost us 129.00 for two nights with breakfast. At that price it was ok but if I had paid double that I would not have been happy. Breakfast was 'beige' nothing continental but wasn't too bad in taste.
We met for a family reunion and helpful staff made the visit for us. The hotel itself is partly refurbished. Parts badly in need of upgrading. Chairs in the public area were collapsed and worn. Rooms were large, spotlessly clean, but rather sparse in furnishing. The included toiletries were a bottle of hand wash and one of shower gel, which was to double up for shampoo. Although there was plenty of room in the bedrooms they had only 2 seats, no armchairs. The TV was small and poor quality. However we were served very well by pleasant local staff, who went out of their way, serving hot drinks when the bar was officially not open. While we were there a coach party was there, so meal times and breakfast were rather crowded. Food was OK, rather than good, but not expensive for the centre of the city. Everywhere is within quite easy walking distance, and nice views of the river from the bar area.
It's a nice hotel and a very convenient place to stay in York. It's not lavish, but it's comfortable. Rooms are of reasonable size, and some have very nice views over the river. The hotel is having a refurb, so some of the rooms have been improved. I had one of the ones that hadn't been improved, but it was nice enough. There was only one free electric socket though, so not so good if you have a phone, tablet and camera all to recharge overnight. Bring an extension cable and multi socket. I didn't eat or drink in the hotel so I can't comment on that. The hotel does have a car park (not big enough for every room to have a car though) but at £10 a night, it's a lot cheaper than the local NCPs. It's a good alternative to the Premier Inn or Travelodge, and has a bar and restaurant as well.
Stayed here for a long weekend with a pre-booked car parking space. I would class this hotel along the same lines as Holiday Inn Express. Only issue is that there is nowhere to dry used towels. I left some over the bath and these were just folded and returned, still damp, to the shelf by the housekeeping staff. Fresh towels were supplied on the following day.
This hotel is ideally situated on the river and just a stone's throw from the city centre and all the sights. My room was clean and warm with a very comfortable bed. There is excellent WiFi reception in the bedroom. The breakfast buffet was perfectly adequate with eggs cooked on demand. The evening meal was good too. The staff were friendly and helpful so a very good stay all round.
The hotel is situated right on the banks of the river and a very short walk from the shops and attractions in the centre of town. Easily reached by foot from the main rail station. We had a superior top floor corner room with views across the river. The room was reasonably large, very quiet and lovely and warm. A good bathroom but wish the shower had a flex instead of a fixed head so hair could be washed separately. Very pleasant and helpful staff and a wonderful breakfast. The nicest thing was that the bar and lounge area was lovely and quiet with no loud music. A nice peaceful and relaxing place with views over the river. For this alone I would come here again. An excellent hotel with great staff in the best part of town. Highly recomended.
