My partner and I arrived to find brown marks in the bath. We asked for another room and after some discussion we moved rooms. This was only marginally better the bath still had enameling missing with rough patches. The evening meal was diabolical. Faulty towers comes to mind. We had two totally different menus. My lamb was dried. Veg was bland. Trffle was like nothing seen before sloppy with runny cream. I did bring to staffs attention and was offered alternative but to be honest didn't want anything else. Were meant to stay two nights were glad to check on after one didn't even attempt breakfast. Manager only offered a £20 refund and is not charging for the night we didn't stay.! No refund for breakfast or the fact it is not fit for purpose. The whole place is shabby with worn wallpaper hanging off.

Very large clean room, decent facilities, great location, fantastically comfortable bed. Only slightly odd thing was their sign saying (I paraphrase) 'If you take our soap home we'll charge you £3'. There was no sign banning guests from taking home the towels, desk and television though.......

We stayed at the Queens for four night on a b&b basis. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a large corner room with a king-size bed. The kids had put up beds that were very comfortable. Even with the extra 2 beds we had plentry of room. The hotel is centrally located so we walked everywhere. All of the attractions we wanted to visit were less than 10 minutes walking so we left the car in the car park for the duration. The food was good quality, well presented and good portion sizes. We ate evening meals in the hotel twice during our stay and just wish they did a half board option as the food was lovely but not very affordable for a family of four interested in sightseeing and not visiting for the culinary variety york offers. All in all a good stay.

Me and my partner have just returned from York and stayed at The Queens hotel. We stayed for one night. We found the hotel without any problems and my partner had prepaid for parking which is under the hotel for a small fee of £10.00. It was a safe locked up car park. Check in was after 2.30pm and reception was friendly on arrival and easy fast check in. My first impression of our room was how lovely it was. We had a room with a view over looking the river Ouse. The beds were all very comfortable and it was a king size bed, with plenty of pillows. The room was heated very nicely. There where complimentary tea's, coffee's and biscuits. Lots of mirrors about. The bathroom was nice and clean with lots of fresh fluffy towels. The room was well decorated and the carpets were of nice. The room was very clean and tidy. Breakfast was between 7.30am and 9.30am and it was buffet style with lots of different cereals and fruit, followed with traditional English style breakfast, which was cooked to perfection. Check out was up to 11.00am . All in all I would definetly stay at this hotel again. The only thing i would say this hotel is in the city centre and therefore there is some noise from the people leaving late from local pubs so if you do not want to hear this then pick another hotel away from the city centre.

Stayed just one night at the Queens to visit the University. Location is great - within 10 minutes walk of the station, Shambles, Minster. Loads of bars, shops and restaurants nearby. Beds were comfortable, room was clean, bathroom clean but a little tired. Could benefit from more plug sockets as there were only two, including the one the TV was using, and both were the opposite wall from the beds. Breakfast buffet had lots of choice - croissants, brioche, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, full English. They will cook fresh eggs for you, provide gluten free and dairy-free alternatives. Recommended.

lovely hotel, very clean great location main town 5 mins away, located on the river ouse, we went in november so had the xmas market which is great lots of mull wine etc downside to this hotel no evening entertainment

We were returning from Edinburgh to London and spent 2 nights in this hotel with our adult daughter. Although at first a little tricky for the driver to find, once we had arrived we settled into this very comfortable room with 2 double beds. While our room did not have a water view, the hotel is situated on the river and is a very easy walk into the city over the bridge as it is inside the walls of the city. No complaints with any part of the room or the hotel in general. Our cooked breakfast was included and this too did not disappoint. A great range of breakfast food in a large open dining area. There was also a lovely sitting area that looked out over the river. Would certainly return!

Just returned from a three night stay at this hotel and was really impressed. It is the second time we have visited and have already booked to stay again in June. The location is perfect - just a short walk into the city centre and with parking on the premises (payable) it is a good choice. We have stayed at some very expensive hotels in York but have never had such a lovely view from our room. The riverside location is lovely. The staff were really helpful on reception and the young man overseeing breakfast was very pleasant and efficient. It is not a top of the range hotel but they are not charging top of the range prices. On both occasions we have been able to take advantage of an Internet offer which made our break excellent value for money. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Went on a bus trip with Edwards coaches from swansea , took quite a few hours , but seats were comfortable and enjoyed the trip. On arrival reception was quick , hotel rooms were clean and modern , evening meal was at 6.30 every night meals were 3 course and very nice. hotel was situated central of the city. Next day we visited shambles Betty's cafe, York minister, shops were all in the vicinity . Day 3 went to York castle museum spent three hours in ,very interesting then walked the wall ,pubs are central, Very interesting weekend ,would go again more to see

Well placed across the river from the sights of York. A river view room is great but noise from the pubs on opposite river bank could annoy. We prefer to try for a room with a view but if you want a quieter aspect then you have the choice. Good value. Clean. Convenient. Have been several times.
