The room was very clean with all the usual amenities. TV, free WiFi, Coffee, tea, biscuits. Bathroom again with shampoo, shower gel & hairdryer. Shower was excellent. I nearly had an "oops moment" watching hubby trying to suss the bath to shower sequence . He got there eventually!!!!!!!! Bless.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Checked in promptly room was ready before check in time we were early and we were going to leave our cases but were told we could go up which was great. We were on the 3rd floor there was a lift to take us up. Room was big enough for both of us and we were right at the top. It was a smoking room -which for us was a bonus. Being a smoker does not mean I like to smell it and I was pleasantly surprised that the room did not give this impression. It was a bonus that I did not have to stand outside smoking. Had a small window which you could open and a Velux blackout blind for privacy. 1st impressions were good. Lot's of space. A few housekeeping issues. Cap from a razor on the bath. Valance on the bed at the bottom. Quite dirty. Splashes of coffee/tea on bathroom skirtings. Overall not too bad. I have seen worse.Shower was good. easy to use. Breakfast was fine.frequently replenished. You can find the toast in a dish up with the hot food.Good selection of cereals /jams etc etc I spent long enough wondering how you get toast.! You can also get a fried or boiled egg if you ask. A substantial breakfast to suit all. Location is good. Spar shop across the road. Not too far from anything really. All walkable. Views across the river really nice and you can sit in the lounge at the bar if you prefer. What let this hotel down for me - it was the evening meal. While I tried to stay open minded and if you broke it down for 2 people per night it is only £55 each for b+b. Free wifi. Freeview tv. Very Very reasonable. The evening meal Table d'hote. Pate with whisky. Failed to find any whisky taste and would say this was equivalent to a shiphams beef paste or similar -like the stuff you get in jars.. The salad had a balsamic glaze dotted here and there. The plates are clearly made up well in advance and the glaze was all dried up. The starter arrived about 2 mins from ordering ! Fish and chips. - More batter than fish ....and the chips... they were overdone.I think they were re-heats. It was in my opinion abyssmal. Before ordering we asked what the specials were. Nope no specials tonight. The menu was limited and the fish was the only thing I could have eaten from it. I asked what lagers was on tap. Just Fosters. This was not the impression you get when you read -why not not enjoy a drink in the bar relax in the Riverside Lounge or food from our table d'hote menu. Our waiter was also covering the bar/serving and seating too. Service from him was excellent. If we were expected to pay on the presentation/ quality and quanity of the meal - I would pay a mere £3.50. And that would have been for the Melba toast and what fish I managed to source from the batter. We ordered white wine.It was fine. Price you would expect in a hotel. It was pouring torrential rain and that is the only reason we ate here. There are so many eating places out and about. I would NOT recommend an evening meal here. We went over to the lounge to look at the water and opened the door to go onto balcony. The rain had stopped by now. The door was slightly opened. The female who was at the bar came and BARKED at us - you cannot smoke out here. My husband showed her it was a Vape Cigarette. Oh she said and walked away. Some 5 mins later the waiter came over and said he was just going to close the door. It was not windy nor was it cold. But we felt we were inconveniencing the staff by merely standing on the balcony looking at the river so we gave up and went to our room. There were a young couple in the restaurant which is a fair bit away from said balcony -it was all very unneccessary. Check out was prompt and completed by a very nice lady who asked if we wanted to leave our cases until later. I would stay here again. The beds are comfortable. I had a good nights sleep. The housekeeping issues.... they were not huge. Disappointing. But not huge. And I did not have to stand outside of a hotel early in the morning with my coffee - for me that was a big plus. I love york- I visit when I can and not many hotels take smokers into account.

I was really pleasantly surprised by this lovely hotel. We arrived quite late and the receptionist (Lynne) offered to make us sandwiches to have prepared for when we arrived. We gratefully declined but someone putting that much effort in, was so lovely! The receptionist stayed even though her taxi to go home was due, to ensure we had our parking space and were settled. I really appreciated that a lot. The room we stayed in was lovely, spacious and very clean. The bed was very large but comfortable and clean also. The bathroom was spotless and I was thoroughly impressed. Our sleep was absolutely undisturbed too! Breakfast was a pleasant surprise, it was a warm selection at a sort of "all you can eat buffet" style, with eggs, toast, mushrooms, bacon, sausages, beans etc. There was also a selection of croissants and cereals and juices. The breakfast/dining/bar area is very large, so you could sit down without feeling over crowded by other guests. The hotel is so close to the city centre and the highlights of York. I will definitely stop here again and would highly recommend it to anyone.

My partner and I arrived to find brown marks in the bath. We asked for another room and after some discussion we moved rooms. This was only marginally better the bath still had enameling missing with rough patches. The evening meal was diabolical. Faulty towers comes to mind. We had two totally different menus. My lamb was dried. Veg was bland. Trffle was like nothing seen before sloppy with runny cream. I did bring to staffs attention and was offered alternative but to be honest didn't want anything else. Were meant to stay two nights were glad to check on after one didn't even attempt breakfast. Manager only offered a £20 refund and is not charging for the night we didn't stay.! No refund for breakfast or the fact it is not fit for purpose. The whole place is shabby with worn wallpaper hanging off.

Very large clean room, decent facilities, great location, fantastically comfortable bed. Only slightly odd thing was their sign saying (I paraphrase) 'If you take our soap home we'll charge you £3'. There was no sign banning guests from taking home the towels, desk and television though.......

We stayed at the Queens for four night on a b&b basis. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a large corner room with a king-size bed. The kids had put up beds that were very comfortable. Even with the extra 2 beds we had plentry of room. The hotel is centrally located so we walked everywhere. All of the attractions we wanted to visit were less than 10 minutes walking so we left the car in the car park for the duration. The food was good quality, well presented and good portion sizes. We ate evening meals in the hotel twice during our stay and just wish they did a half board option as the food was lovely but not very affordable for a family of four interested in sightseeing and not visiting for the culinary variety york offers. All in all a good stay.

Me and my partner have just returned from York and stayed at The Queens hotel. We stayed for one night. We found the hotel without any problems and my partner had prepaid for parking which is under the hotel for a small fee of £10.00. It was a safe locked up car park. Check in was after 2.30pm and reception was friendly on arrival and easy fast check in. My first impression of our room was how lovely it was. We had a room with a view over looking the river Ouse. The beds were all very comfortable and it was a king size bed, with plenty of pillows. The room was heated very nicely. There where complimentary tea's, coffee's and biscuits. Lots of mirrors about. The bathroom was nice and clean with lots of fresh fluffy towels. The room was well decorated and the carpets were of nice. The room was very clean and tidy. Breakfast was between 7.30am and 9.30am and it was buffet style with lots of different cereals and fruit, followed with traditional English style breakfast, which was cooked to perfection. Check out was up to 11.00am . All in all I would definetly stay at this hotel again. The only thing i would say this hotel is in the city centre and therefore there is some noise from the people leaving late from local pubs so if you do not want to hear this then pick another hotel away from the city centre.

Stayed just one night at the Queens to visit the University. Location is great - within 10 minutes walk of the station, Shambles, Minster. Loads of bars, shops and restaurants nearby. Beds were comfortable, room was clean, bathroom clean but a little tired. Could benefit from more plug sockets as there were only two, including the one the TV was using, and both were the opposite wall from the beds. Breakfast buffet had lots of choice - croissants, brioche, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, full English. They will cook fresh eggs for you, provide gluten free and dairy-free alternatives. Recommended.

lovely hotel, very clean great location main town 5 mins away, located on the river ouse, we went in november so had the xmas market which is great lots of mull wine etc downside to this hotel no evening entertainment

We were returning from Edinburgh to London and spent 2 nights in this hotel with our adult daughter. Although at first a little tricky for the driver to find, once we had arrived we settled into this very comfortable room with 2 double beds. While our room did not have a water view, the hotel is situated on the river and is a very easy walk into the city over the bridge as it is inside the walls of the city. No complaints with any part of the room or the hotel in general. Our cooked breakfast was included and this too did not disappoint. A great range of breakfast food in a large open dining area. There was also a lovely sitting area that looked out over the river. Would certainly return!
