The reception staff were pretty miserable and not very welcoming and certainly not informative re surrounding area/transport. There was a funny smell in reception and extra large room key that you were expected to carry around with you all night!p as there was no porter to responsibility and the bar staff refused to take it ( it was so big it wouldn't fit in my hand bag)! On a plus side the room was clean and comfortable.
My partner and I visited with another couple thanks to a discount voucher. I’ve been to Holt Lodge many times before as it is about 5 mins from our house and always been fairly impressed with the carvery but rarely had anything from the main menu, turns out I’ve been missing out! Started with the panko crumbed Brie and it was delicious, generous portion with an accompanying side salad that complimented the Brie very well. Moved on to the chicken and bacon burger and it was excellent. 2 chicken breasts, onion rings, fresh salad and a brioche bun - delicious. The desert options were plentiful and I opted for the choc hazelnut tart, again tasty if slightly unimpressive compared to the other courses. However overall it was an excellent experience, just a shame it was so quiet on a Friday night (more staff than customers!) highly recommend
I was lucky enough to win a meal for two at the lovely Holt Lodge Hotel this month. It was my first visit and cannot wait to return. The service and attention to us was impeccable and the food was superb from starters to sweet. I would definately reccomend a visit.
My husband won a competition for a free meal. The food was Excellent and the staff were amazing - so friendly and a great atmosphere. Will definitely be going back. I will recommend the Holt Lodge to everyone. Xx
We live and work close and use to use this a lot but we have for got about until the other day We had a family meal and it was lovely great service and food so tasty and quality. We went back for a sandwich the day at her it was amazing Well recommend
We had our daughters Christening here and everything went clockwise. The food was spot on, the service was amazing and the pre-ordered arrival drinks were served with a smile. Been there a couple of times now and it’s always 5*. All my friends started using them because of their experience at the Christening.
Visited the holt lodge hotel for their New Year's Eve function. We had a terrific time, the food was of exceptional quality.....our table had the beef, belly pork and I settled for the monkfish. All our dishes were presented well and the young team of waiting on staff did a great professional job in ensuring all tables were served promptly. I am sure they would have all preferred to have been out celebrating themselves and should be commended for working so hard for everyone to have such a great time. The ABBA tribute act were terrific.......I've never seen so many folk up and dancing all round the dance floor, tables and the bar, made for a great atmosphere. Also took my elderly mum and mum in law for the Christmas Sunday Carvery with Brymbo Male Voice Choir singing. That was great too. pop in from time to time for an evening meal and never been disappointed.
12 of us booked to go for the NYE ABBA event. Before booking we called into the Holt Lodge to check the details to ensure the event would be suitable for a party of 12 including a couple in their 90s. We were assured it would be, as we would be seated in their restaurant, with a view of the stage and there would be an area for dancing. So we booked. On the night we turned up to find we were situated in the bar , in fact the other side of the bar from the restaurant, well away from everyone else and unable to see the restaurant or the stage at all. We complained but were told there was no room for our party in the restaurant and there was nothing they could do about it. After further complaints they agreed that the only thing they could do was give us a few complimentary drinks to make up for our disappointment. It was obvious that the person in charge was aware we had a legitimate complaint, but at that time on NYE there was little that could be done. In fact he actually stated that he knew how disappointed we must be! So we had to stay, the food was fine, but the whole evening was a real let down. We missed out on the restaurant atmosphere, so more like a pub lunch than a nice dinner in a nice setting, we couldn't see the band unless we stood in the restaurant, which was no use to the older members of our party and where we were told off for blocking other people's views. And the dance floor was the size of a postage stamp, and you were unable to get on it most of the time. We did make the best of it as it would have been a waste of money not to, but they must surely know how many the restaurant seats and had overbooked. Also when we commented that some of the tables appeared too large for the party sat at them we were told that those were regulars who came every year! One thing is for sure we will never become regulars if this is how they treat their customers. All should be treated equally as we had all paid the same amount and deserved to be seated as promised no matter how often we visit the place. This is just poor management from the Holt Lodge on a night which they should know is special to everyone
I have never been somewhere as nice as the holt lodge hotel, definitely a try the food was amazing the staff are friendly and my friends enjoyed there stay to also was very clean and very welcoming would definitely be coming back
Myself and 3 friends were at Holt Lodge on 20th December 2017 for the above afternoon tea costing £19.95 per head. I was very disappointed and would not recommend. It was anything but Festive, no festive napkins or crackers, there were not many sandwiches, the cakes were tray bakes with a tiny mince pie throw in for good measure. I have had afternoon teas in a few places and have always been asked if I would like more sandwiches and tea but not in this case. On returning home I e-mailed them to say how disappointed I was and to date I am still waiting a response.
