5 of us went for afternoon tea, we were met by a waiter who questioned my sister when she said we had pre paid and we didnt have a print out as she had booked over the telephone she was told we didnt need one. We sat at the table one of the cups was dirty we got that changed, two small pots of tea arrived we were not offered anymore so asked for a refill one was refilled, the afternoon tea arrived very dissapointing, standard sandwiches, a very small profiterole a brownie and somthing else, then to the scones which looked delicious how wrong we could be, hard on the outside like rubber to cut and seemed uncooked inside, a pot of jam each and clotted cream to share, one bite was enough to put us all off, best bit was the strawberries but you cant really go wrong cutting a strawberry in half . Total waste of £60
Hotel easy to find with plenty of parking. Room was comfy, clean and warm. Good shower. Not the best outlook at back of hotel.Advised we were in a quiet part of hotel. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was great and exceeded my expectations. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Would have been great value for money if not for the noisy guest in next room. Spoilt our sleep. Poor acoustics in hotel.
So this place is a little tired and slightly old fashioned in some respects and it is in the middle of no where. But the staff are very good and the breakfast was also excellent. The bar area is nice and we were here for two nights for a wedding down the road so for the price it was very good value.
My husband and I went for afternoon tea. We bought a voucher through Groupon. We were met by a friendly waitress who tried to find our booking on the system but couldn’t. As it wasn’t busy it was easy to find a spare table. The restaurant looked very nice and was warm which was very welcoming on such a cold day. We ordered a pot of tea with our afternoon tea and were told to let staff know if we wanted any top ups. The afternoon tea arrived. It didn’t look very exciting in fact it just looked bland. Bottom tier was made up of boring sandwiches such as ham, smoked salmon, cheese and pickle and what appeared to be packet chicken. A few salad leaves were the only garnish. Next tier was carrot cake, chocolate brownie and profiteroles. All very brown and boring again! Top tier consisted of 2 pots of jam, a pot of cream and 2 homemade scones. The fruit scones looked homemade. What a disappointment when we went to eat them. They were wholemeal and contained mixed spice and were so chewy that we had to order extra tea to wash them down! There are far nicer places to have afternoon tea and even though we had it discounted by using a Groupon voucher we just felt ripped off by the experience. We won’t be returning.
Went on February 1st for afternoon tea with prosecco. Myself, daughter, friend and her Mum had a wonderful few hours here.We were greeted by very friendly staff and showed too our table. Our prosecco arrived with a strawberry on top and it was lovely not too dry. We were brought 2 stands with plates of sandwiches, profiteroles, lemon tarts and fresh home made scones with strawberries, clotted cream and strawberry jam. Tea and coffee was plentiful. The waiter was very attentive and couldn't do enough for us. Would definitely recommend this experience.
Went here for a more formal dinner. Was really nice to get dressed up and go somewhere, be waited on and really looked after. This is the place to go. Was looked after all night. Great beer and food. Will defiently return
The reception staff were pretty miserable and not very welcoming and certainly not informative re surrounding area/transport. There was a funny smell in reception and extra large room key that you were expected to carry around with you all night!p as there was no porter to responsibility and the bar staff refused to take it ( it was so big it wouldn't fit in my hand bag)! On a plus side the room was clean and comfortable.
My partner and I visited with another couple thanks to a discount voucher. I’ve been to Holt Lodge many times before as it is about 5 mins from our house and always been fairly impressed with the carvery but rarely had anything from the main menu, turns out I’ve been missing out! Started with the panko crumbed Brie and it was delicious, generous portion with an accompanying side salad that complimented the Brie very well. Moved on to the chicken and bacon burger and it was excellent. 2 chicken breasts, onion rings, fresh salad and a brioche bun - delicious. The desert options were plentiful and I opted for the choc hazelnut tart, again tasty if slightly unimpressive compared to the other courses. However overall it was an excellent experience, just a shame it was so quiet on a Friday night (more staff than customers!) highly recommend
I was lucky enough to win a meal for two at the lovely Holt Lodge Hotel this month. It was my first visit and cannot wait to return. The service and attention to us was impeccable and the food was superb from starters to sweet. I would definately reccomend a visit.
