The Neighborhood: The Faubourg Marigny, commonly just Marigny, is a hip neighborhood just "below" (down river from) the French Quarter. Best known for the great live music district on Frenchmen Street, the Marigny also offers neighborhood cafes & businesses, historic architecture, and more. It has the air of what the French Quarter was in it's golden days. It has a few small hotels, and many bed-and-breakfasts, as well as a number of good restaurants, coffee shops, and music venues. Architecturally, the Marigny is known for its many styles of Creole cottages, most of which date to the 19th century. Its "heart" is Washington Square Park (bounded by Frenchmen Street, Royal Street, Dauphine Street, and Elysian Fields Avenue). Frenchmen Street is the main nightlife district, with half a dozen live music clubs and just as many restaurants in four short blocks. At Mardi Gras, the Marigny is one of the city's hidden hot spots. Very popular with locals, who enjoy partying in the streets without the busy atmosphere of Bourbon Street. Crowds gather at the corner of Royal and Kerlerec (outside of R-Bar Inn) as well as at the intersection of Royal and Franklin. Elaborate costumes are the order of the day, along with brass bands and many drummers. Two weeks before Mardi Gras, the Marigny is also the starting place for the Krewe du Vieux, a satirical, raunchy parade in 19th-century Carnival style! Complete with small floats drawn by krewe members and mules. Local cafes, restaurants and music venues line Frenchmen Street. Known for its bohemian atmosphere, the Marigny is home to many artists and musicians, as well as a sizable gay and lesbian population. Among its notable residents are chef Paul Prudhomme, painter James Michalopoulas, and actors Harry Shearer and Jennifer Coolidge, who can be seen around town when they're not working in L.A. Local writers include New Orleans mystery writers, Julie Smith and J.M. Redmann, as well as Andrei Codrescu, Michael Swindle, and Kevin Allman. Frenchmen Street is in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood just below the lower edge of the Quarter. A 4 block stretch of bars, restaurants, and coffee shops mixed with live music venues make it one of the city's most hip places, catering more to locals than tourists (though tourists are certainly welcome, and welcomed). On any given night, one might find modern jazz, swinging traditional jazz, Latin American style music, rockabilly, and more within this small area.
Getting Around: walk to the french quarter and frenchmen street!

This house was very accommodating! It had everything we needed. We arrived hours before actual check-in time, but we were able to drop off our bags inside and allowing us to explore a bit and have a nice lunch in the quarter. The location was perfect for the activities we wanted to do this time in NOLA.

The cottage is in a great location. Easy walking to Frenchmen St and French Quarter. So many places to eat and hear music. The cottage was very clean. AC really worked well and it was hot and humid and needed. Everyone had a queen or king bed, very comfortable. I know there is not much that can be done but the kitchen cabinets are high and fortunately one of us is tall. We left our corkscrew. More wine glasses please!Had a great time. Would highly recommend the place. Thank you. Wonderful memories.

Perfect choice, great location
This property was everything I'd hoped for, clean, charming, roomy and comfortable. The location is close to bus stops for getting around. Near Frenchmen street, and places to eat. Even a Walgreens within a short walking distance. Well appointed, towels and bedding are plentiful and soft. The mattresses and pillows are heavenly. The host is very communicative, definitely recommend.

Would totally stay again!
This house is so charming! We loved the neighborhood and felt completely safe there. Loretta's pralines just down on the corner from the house had the best beignets in the city! The house is perfectly located to everything. The A/C kept us comfortable, the beds were comfortable, the house was super clean. The check in and out process was easy. The property manager was super responsive. The street for us was quiet. Some said it was loud, but we had no issues with noise. We had a very fun and pleasant experience. We are a married couple that traveled with our 17 year old daughter. There was plenty for her to do even close to the rental! Thank you for opening your home to us! If we ever are in the area again we will rebook!

Great location and comfortable home.
This is a great location far enough from Bourbon street to be quiet and close enough to walk. It’s very close to the jazz clubs on Frenchmen street. The ac kept us comfortable. Internet worked fine, the beds were comfortable, and the bathrooms had good water pressure. You are basically a block away from a small grocery store which was super handy.
Lastly, the off street parking can’t be beat. We had a bronco sport rental and that fit. Longer cars would be fine, but a wider suv might be too tight. I’m not sure. But it was nice knowing parking wasn’t an issue as we drove around some days. Loved it.

Lovely but loud
This property was incredibly charming, and walking distance to a lot of our favorite places---Decatur, Jackson Square, Frenchmen St bars. It was a little difficult to get a good night's sleep as cars drove by, especially around 2-3am when the bars closed, with very loud, thumping bass. People walking by on the sidewalk talking sound like they are in the house with you. If I stayed here again I would bring a noise machine, perhaps noise canceling headphones, to help drown out some of the lesser sounds.

Best spot to stay
The house was very clean, and this old house was well taken care of throughout the years, the house has so much charm!! The location was perfect for our family, far enough away from the sounds of the night life, but very easy to walk to many of New Orleans' best spots!
Will definitely stay here again!
