This place is great, just round the corner from one of the main bazaar streets, with plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. The rooms are large, clean, serviced daily and have wetroom bathrooms with showers. Staff were very friendly and helpful with taxis and suggestions for our sightseeing. A great base from which to wander the streets of Delhi. The rooftop terrace restaurant is fab, very laid back and serves good food.
I stayed at Jyoti Mahal on my first day in India & found the hotel to be basic, but it also had everything you needed. I had a decent sized room with a large bed and the bathroom was fine too. The roof terrace is a nice place to relax in the evening, serving food and drink. The breakfast in the morning was average, again very basic. The hotel is in a good location with lots of restaurants near by. Good value for money.
I was so pleases with this hotel and the location was great ! Excellent value for money ! Very friendly staff ! The rooms were clean and big enough for three to share comfortably ! No air con but they had ceiling fans so that was actually better! Had a fridge which was helpful. The location is right in a vibrant area but don't be put off by the undeveloped area as inside the hotel is lovely !! Any way it's India and you love it or hate it !! We loved it and will definitely return to this hotel !!
We began our most enjoyable and exciting Indian adventure by staying at the Jyoti Mahal Hotel, wrapping up our travels there as well, with return visits in between at varying points on our itinerary which included Kashmir, Chennai and Kerala. Some of the highlights of our trip were the times we stayed on houseboats, both in Kashmir and Kerala, and the hill station country of Munnar in Kerala. It was at Jyoti Mahal that we were introduced to Mr. Baljeet Jii, through our excellent points of contact, Mr. Bilal (Bill) Boktoo and Mr. Asif Sameer, managers with the company "Indo Tours and Travel", who helped plan our trip with excellent connections, airport and taxi pick-up at various locations and arranged drivers to and from other venues and sight-seeing. (Bill and Assif are deserving of our special thanks). Places visited included Kashmir, Chennai and Kerala, with some of the highlights deserving of mention were the times we stayed on houseboats, both in Kashmir and Kerala, and the hill station country of Munnar in Kerala. Jyoti Mahal lived up to all our expectations....cool and comfortable on very hot days with a complete sense of personal security and comfort. The roof top restaurant/garden patio area is a super place to relax and plan the day, and affords an opportunity to meet other travelers and guests of the hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and accommodating. The rooms are spacious and full of traditional Indian character with a sense of history and going back in time. The restaurant food is exceptional, and allows for a choice of varying cuisines and tastes. Very important for us was the ability to relax and enjoy an ice cold beer or wine in the outdoor patio/restaurant area or in your room if preferred. Jyoti is centrally and well located for all significant venues....markets, India Gate monument, Red Fort, restaurants and shops, and is located in a busy, lively area although the hotel itself remains calm and quiet.
I booked another hotel with the same owner but ended up here, because there were some problems with the room in the other hotel. They offered me a very big room at Jyoti Mahal and some other freebies. I appreciated that. All I wanted was that I did not have to move back to the other hotel in the middle of my stay. The hotel lobby and the room were nicely decorated. Everything looked old though. It was in a neighborhood with a lot of budget hotels. The staff were friendly and willing to help with my issues regarding the hotel switch. I enjoyed my short stay there very much.
This hotel was a charming gem of a place, don't expect european standards, expect Indian standards and you'll be fine. The hotel is in a little side street, which at first appears a bit sketchy, it's not. The locals are friendly and kind, there are cows wandering around, stray dogs (harmless) and the place is busy and at times noisy. The hotel has a central atrium which kind of funnels the noise throughout the building but we managed fine. The air con in our room did not work but the ceiling fans adequately pushed the air around so we could sleep, the bed was comfy and clean and the shower had plenty of hot water. The restaurant has some excellent indian dishes, the tandoori potato starter was awesome, it's clean and the prices are so cheap. This is the way to experience the noise and bustle of this amazing city
This was our first time in India and didnt really know what to expect from any accommodation, it certainly wasnt a 3* but it was clean, room very basic, no toiletries so remember to take some with you, the roof terrace was ok, a bit shabby but had interesting things to look at so did the reception area, the huge register was amazing i have never seen such a huge book, the staff were friendly enough, if you want a true taste of India i think this is a guest house for you, if you want a bit of luxury definitely not the right place.
Cool place. Very hippy. Nice furniture. Roof top terrace. Came for a beer and got spicy popadoms. Would return. Fairly popular with tourists . Is not what we expected when we were outside. Hidden gem in dodgy area.
I know you can't expect much else than noisy in New Delhi. This really was no exception. The rooms are really nicely decorated, we had a room with a balcony. The building is amazing. The rooftop is a nice place to have breakfast, but they also have lovely dinner dishes (also non-Indian – read: non-spicy). It is also a nice place to have some tea and talk to the fellow travellers. Overall a very good stay, but the nights were really noisy. You already get some of the city-noises. We also had some cats fighting what seamed right outside our room. And as we were on the 3rd floor, we could here the chairs of the rooftop scraping over the floor pretty loudly in the early morning. We also heard some other complaints from other guests on loud noises in the lobby or from other guests at night.
The owner did this hotel for her mother's memorial (name of the hotel comes from her mother's name also) Super friendly staff, rooftop delicious foods, perfect atmosphere, cozy and nice rooms 💜 made my new delhi travel so special..
