Trailways Hotel Nelson

This hotel / restaurant is a very easy walk from central Nelson and shops. The meals are beautiful and well presented. and the staff are very helpful. they start off with an unexpected wee taster. You can get a table facing the river beside it too. The bar also has river view seating inside or outside. There is lovely accommodation here as well with a pool

We were given a room overlooking the river which was very nice With a comfortable king bed and an nicely renovated bathroom but the walls are very thin and I could hear someone snoring all night. The staff at the fromt desk were exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Paper thin walls, we ended up using earplugs to get to sleep. We could hear all conversations and even the reception and bar. Very small wardrobe could only hang 2 items. Clean though and good location.

If back in Nelson, I would stay here again. I had a corner suite that was really more room than I needed as a party of one, but I did enjoy the spaciousness. For a party with children or multiple people, the suite would also be perfect. I thought the king bed upstairs with a sky light over it was cozy. Not a lot of room to move around up there, but for me, it was OK. Downstairs there is a large bath, although no counter top space to put much around the sink. Nice jet tub that I never used. Also a nice kitchenette, that I never used. A comfortable sitting area and a bed that comes out of the wall, again, that I never used. One of the reason I booked this place was because it said it had a balcony with a river view. Well, I found out the river comes and goes with the tide, and because I left the hotel in the morning and would come back in the evening, the "river" was always dry, so the view from the balcony was not so much. This place is not fancy, but again, convenient, clean, and comfortable. I had a good nights sleep here. I found it to be a nice quiet hotel. There is a restaurant at the hotel where I had breakfast. The breakfast was fine.

Large spacious room, tea and coffee facilities. Great spa bath. Friendly and informative staff. Made a mistake with our booking on the return trip but this was sorted immediately. No noise from outside. Did not eat on the premises so cannot comment on the food.

Really nice service especially from Isabelle and after they messed up our checkin (gave us wrong room) they sorted it quick and were very apologetic. Room was small but nice and great view of river. Bar stuff were super friendly and all in a great location close to cbd

We had two rooms - one family and one standard room both were well located in the building and well equipped - we were on the ground floor which made access easy and quick when packing up car. While we did find some rubbish and items obviously left by the previous occupant when we arrived - it did not upset our stay.

Lovely location on the river and only a few minutes walk to the town and river. Rooms are clean and spacious, there are only two floors and there is a small swimming pool. This hotel also caters for coach travellers so a 6am wake up call was not appreciated. All rooms have a outside seating area, ours faced the pool so it was not nice to sit outside, especially if the pool was used late evening, not very private,it also faced the car park. Rooms facing the river seem to be the better option.

Very comfortable hotel, best to ask for river view. Pool small but a sun trap. Very close to town with plenty of good eating places. Beach about 15minutes away. Comprehensive breakfast and well served. Very helpful and friendly staff. If we go back to Nelson, would definitely stay again.

OK. I stayed here twice in January 2017 for one night each time. Rooms are "OK" but that's it. The first booking was like $133 USD but had a spa bath and a balcony over looking the river - the price was acceptable for NZ. The 2nd stay, the room was on ground level and they gave me the room for disabled people for some reason with a chair in the shower. That room was on the ground floor and a bit rough actually. The swimming pool was directly outside the windows and the curtains didn't quite come together so anyone walking past could have looked in and seen me. Luckily I had a safety pin so used it to pull the curtains together. THIS ROOM COST ME $144 USD. Thats $200 NZD for Kiwis. The biggest disappointment about Trailways is that they do not have any international news channels on the TV. The have TV One news in New Zealand which is basically local "feel-good" news (basically a sports channel). Its not enough for the international business traveler. One thing I did like was the menu. Very comprehensive and lots of seafood. I didn't eat here but wish I did.
