Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco Apartments

In Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco you get a key for a small house. They all look very cosy on the outside and this creates some 'expectations' which - unfortunately - are not completely met on the inside. The rooms are sober with minimal and 'dated' furniture. This absolutely does not feel like a hotel room but rather like a weekend cottage. For the record, there is a kitchen too. The breakfast buffet offers a rather limited choice, we would rate it 'average'. We also had dinner here ... again average but just acceptable : the first course was not good at all, the main course and dessert were just ok. The service however was horrible : speedy but without finesse. Forks and knives that fell on the ground just stayed there and the worst still had to come ... At the end of the diner one of the servants dropped a lot of plates and cutlery on the stairs and even against the walls. Another funny thing : we could not pay our drinks after dinner and we were asked to do this the next morning at the reception. No problem ... but we had to tell the receptionist what we had for drinks because they had no clue at all !

We stayed here one night on an Air New Zealand Escape Weekend. To be honest we were quite disappointed with the room. It was quite old and tired. The rooms while quite spacious, they were quite dark and cold - very little natural light coming in. We traveled last month in the middle of winter and was disappointed that they failed to turn on the heating, so the room was very cold when we arrived (which was prepaid). Lots of little things which I feel need to be addressed - cupboards that would not shut - only full blue milk available in the bottle - Moconna coffee was only decaffeinated (which is good if you like decaf.) - TV reception so bad on some channels it was unwatchable, I could not watch the rugby replays on TV it was just too unclear - TV very small in both lounge and bedroom, so small in the bedroom it was unwatchable when in bed. When we checked in, given an upstairs room not even asked if we would like ground floor or not. The stairs leading to the room were very steep & narrow. The landing outside the two upstairs doors was very small, for person + baggage. The doors opened OUTWARDS on the landing, which threw me and was quite unsafe because you had to back up in this small area, and step around the door close to those steep stairs. As an aside, it is also well out of Nelson City, so you need to drive to see the sights.

Amazing venue / awesome rooms well heated up, excellent customer service / location next to lake with amazing views, great selection of Room Service Menu , a very good place to chill for the night or party all night

found the rooms quite dark and dingy and cold... took a while to heat up. The rooms were very spacious though but the beds should have electric blankets. Handy to the Honest Lawyer where its better to eat and drink

This whole hotel is simply beautiful and unique! We cannot recommend it enough. You don't even feel like you're in a hotel, more a home away from home. The restaurant is gorgeous, the staff are always so genuinely lovely and the food is amazing!! Not to mention the sea views right outside your door are incredible. Everything is extremely well priced. After experiencing the atmosphere, customer service and amenities here we would never stay anywhere else. This place is one out of the box! Thank you to all the lovely staff (Tommy and team) who made our stay and dinner so enjoyable and gave us a laugh. See you next time!

We came down from Auckland as a family and decided to stay here as it was Accor Hotels. We got the apartment with two bedrooms and we were not disappointed. Except for the fridge, which smelled HORRIBLE. But The staff were friendly and fixed the problem. The restaurant was good but pricey. The gym has not got a lot of equipment but is enough for a gym of that size. The swimming pool is not heated but is a good size. The whole complex itself almost feels like a village, with jewelers and a barber and a nice village green it is a really nice place to stay. The bicycle hire is affordable and Nelson with its bike trails is quite a nice place to cycle. Overall with comfy rooms, friendly staff and good facilities although a few things need work, I would recommend anyone to stay here. Families, couples or business travelers would enjoy a stay here.

Highly recommend. We arrived at the Hotel. Greeted by charming and helpful staff. Our room was amazing. Warm, comfortable, spacious, comfy lounge chairs. Extremely clean. The whole complex is stunning! Well kept. We had soup one evening for dinner at the Hotel Restaurant. Staff were Amazing! Restaurant lovely and the soup was super tasty....We will go back again and will recommend to all. All other Hotels should take a leaf out of the book of this Hotel. They lead the way in spades! Thank you so much for an amazing stay. We've stayed in 3 other Hotels on our holiday thus far. These places don't come close to you in any way!

We stayed here for a weekend & really enjoyed ourselves,we stayed in a 1 bedroom spa cottage. The rooms are styled in old english tudor style, there was a gas fire in the living area , upstairs there was a 4 post bed & the bathroom was very modern with a large two head shower & a lovely spa bath.

Pleasant place to stay. Rooms are large and the restaurant provides great meals, especially the breakfast. This was not the first time I have stayed here and it won't be the last. I recommend this spot to all.

This place has got to be seen to be believed, its cosy, has character, which is just charming. Staff are friendly and welcoming... you have a little cottage style place all to yourself, beatuful surroundings. What more could you ask for.
