The place was very nice, but it was a drive to a restaurant or anything to do.
Very odd location but perfectly nice place. More short term apts type stay than hotel
the room was a bit cramped, for 2 people with 2 bags of luggage , but the view was wonderful.
This is a truly excellent and unique hotel! It's more like staying in an old English home than a hotel (think of a scene out of Harry Potter). The units are two story with full kitchen, living room with working fireplace, delightful patio, and bedrooms upstairs. Constuction is first rate with old wooden beams, brick & tile. Our family of 4 found it to be roomy and comfortable -- a real chance to relax from hectic travels. The staff was helpful and cordial. Although I understand how some people could have trouble finding the location because the road it's on passes over the highway without an exit ramp. However, we had no trouble.
Without a doubt the best lodging we experienced in New Zealand. Very clean, charming rooms and apartments with lots of personality. We had a mix up on reservations and the staff corrected. Excellent shuttle to airport.
My fiance and I traveled to Nelson NZ to get married and have our honeymoon. We spent our entire stay in a 2 bedroom riverside cottage at Monaco and it was absolutely wonderful. The room had a kitchen fully equipped including dishes, towels, coffee press, hot water, oven, microwave, dishwasher, etc. (even a washer/dryer combo). The living room was nicely equipped and we loved the gas fireplace and outside seating area with table and chairs and waterway below with little ducks to feed. The bathrooms were fully equipped as well (we each had our own which was very nice) and everything was very clean and the staff were very friendly. The bedrooms were very comfortable and even had a flat screen TV mounted on the wall in the master suite. It was very quiet and peaceful and had easy access to Nelson (we did rent a vehicle so you would need a vehicle if you plan to travel into town). The landscaping was absolutely stunning and they spend a great deal of time and care to make the grounds beautiful. The Monaco was the ideal location for us and we would highly recommend this facility to anyone who is traveling to NZ in the Nelson area.
Beautiful hotel and property. Nice location.
Comfortable accomodation, furnished in old traditional design with dark wood and maroon wallpaper. Our room had patio area overlooking the inlet. Other rooms set out as 'village' with rows of 2 storey 'cottages' Restaurant on site pricey-the cost was written in words!- but we were given $10 vouchers towards breakfast which made it affordable. Really nice location on inlet with spa, pool and jewellers on site but a long way from Nelson so a car would be preferable(15 minute drive). We were not driving so needed public transport which was not close either. We were dependent on a free shuttle that could be pre-booked to take you into town but did not run very late in the day for the return journey. Coffee making facilities in room were difficult to access as they were placed in the bottom of a wardrobe area. A communal fridge was available outside room in hallway. No heating in room but fan heaters were available from reception if needed.

Hi there Anonymous Thanks so much for your review of the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco, it was great to read you found the hotel very nice. Because the hotel which is a short 10-15 minute drive to the Nelson city centre (even less to the sea-side area of Tahanunui) it means people can enjoy lots of peace and quiet at the hotel. Warm regards Nick On behalf of the entire team at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco
