Beautiful and modern hotel, great breakfast buffet, and amazing location. It's a 5 minute walk to the gondola, and the ski lockers are a great bonus. A great choice for skiers. We're definitely coming back next year!
Nestled in the mountains of Northern Spain is an incredible resort with beautiful hotels and astounding skiing. And among these treasures is a little gem called Carlos who works the bar of the Himalai Spa Hotel. Give him a high-five, tell him Dave sent you and he’ll give you a free beer:) perhaps.
Advice about Himalaia hotel at Baqueira Beret This hotel is mentioned as a 4 stars hotel. I would like to share a compilation of experiences provided by 5 people incl me who stayed at this place from 9 Feb until this Friday 15 feb. 2019 I divide my advice in different area because the notation can’t be uniform due to big gap of quality services between different department of the hotel. 1- Reception & Lobby Bar In a warm environment, people in charge of reception are at your disposal make effort to speak French / English / Italian . The Barman in charge of the lobby bar is really efficient and stay in a good mood at all hours of the day. A good moment after a day of snowboarding or skiing to relax yourself in a rocking-chair. 2- Room In one word : not the rate of a 4 stars hotel. Not all lights are working, TV remote control is missing when we made the check-in and TV screen in our room is working at half a screen when it overheats. Our bathroom must to be rebuilt ( bathroom joints are worn, dirty and disintegrating , The towel rails have been glued back together with cement that does not hold, various defects ( see pictures)). I’m staying due to my job in many hotels throughout Europe (Spain / Portugal / Italy / France / UK), the rooms are to be categorized as 3 stars in Italy or 2.5 stars in France. Concerning the cleaning, this one is correct but do not expect to enjoy your bathroom or room before 5:15 pm or even 5:30 pm ( the ski station is closed at 4:30 pm). Indeed, household delays are important and in my experience I have only observed this type of delay very few times. I can't say if it's a human problem, a management problem or both. 3- Food and Restaurant Important point during a stay in a ski resort. Food is a friendly part of this stay. The food quality is good whether for breakfast or dinner. European type food, varied. Congratulations to the cook & kitchen team. Concerning the restaurant service staff : Non-functional coffee machine half-time. Very slow table setting and clearing (a table of 4 people can stay 20 min without being cleared while at the time of rush at 8:30 am or 8:45 pm around 150 clients are here) To resume , a restaurant team to be trained as urgently as possible when the manager is not here! after 3 days out of 5 and many issues during our meals ( Cold dishes, finding a table for 5 was a real path cross and a tableware whose cleanliness was approximate ( especially at breakfast) and another topic : Drinks ! Each bottle of water is invoiced on your room without indication of price and no mention in the drinks menu, the person that i consider as the manager has come back to drive the team. The improvement has been obvious and many points have been resolved. So my concern for future customers is related to the fact that depending on the week you come to this hotel, I think your satisfaction rate can evolve from 7.5/10 to 4/10. At the price of the night, a flat level of services satisfaction is essential . 4 - Location No improvement points on this category , good location near to the cable car ( 100m ) through a shopping gallery. Great and securized ski lockers. Very convenient to walk from hotel to cable car without all our equipment. 5- To conclude . Baqueira Beret is one of our best place for skiing and for sure we will come back in 2020 but if we’re pragmatic and analyse price Vs quality , it appears that we’ll not stay one more time in this complex maybe another one or formula change to rent an appartment. I consider this hotel as an Holiday Club medium 3 stars than a conventional 4 stars hotel. I’m not working in hotel industry or linked to this market . It’s just an advice of a customer .
I travel extensively and this hotel was great. Very well appointed with excellent facilities and close the the main gondola, village centre, shops and restaurants. The free extra’s such as lockers at the base of the gondola and ski guiding were a brilliant surprise The breakfast buffet really sets you up for a hard days skiing with all the usual things you would expect on buffet but what I haven’t expect was the Nespresso coffee machines, eggs to order and the range of fresh topical fruit, Used the spa and had a massage to help my tired legs. The hotel staff were great. One of our group injured her leg and the hotel staff took her in their car to the restaurant where we were having dinner. Our room was nice, but a bit cosy for 3. As it was snowing very heavily throughout our stay we couldn’t open the dorma windows to let in air. On the plus side the sofa bed was very comfy,
Had an excellent time. Hotel was really well located and the ski lockers which were a 5 min walk away were really handy located right by the gondola. Great breakfast and spacious room with comfy beds. Special mention to our ski guide Bernard who was fab. What a great free service. Would love to go back.
Our compliments to the extremely helpful and efficient staff of the Himalaia Hotel...and to the manager Maria.(..I think she is the manager...).who gave us a great room to accommodate the dog! THANK YOU...Rosana for fast and efficient reception. Carlos. Fabio and other colleagues who took care of our food and drinks. Sonia cared for our room....and spoiled the dog . and the OSCAR goes to the multipurpose ,multifunctional and multilingual Fabio... YOU ARE WONDERFULL! The Hotel Himalaia is close to the slopes and gondolas with easy parking and comfortable rooms. We enjoyed a great breakfast , however were slightly disappointed with the moderate cuisine ...nearby Vielha may be a better choice. We will be back!
Our visit was to celebrate New Year. The hotel provided no obvious party experience for guests and any additional facilities were very expensive. We booked the hotel Himalaia via Pierre de Vacances but could find no immediate evidence of Pierre Vacances in taking care of the guests needs. We went home 2 days early to spend New Years at home, it was that bad.
They made a mistake with our reservation. Not only they did not complained, but also they treated us with disrespect. They offered a much worse solution (for us, not for them). Being a long-term client did not make any difference. Location is great, but overall experience should be in line.
Is a very good option for Baqueira: really close to the ski resort, parking and free ski lockers at the base of the gondola (5 mns walk) mean you don’t have to haul skis and boots to and from hotel. The staff is very polity and smiling, always trying to help you. Rooms are spacious (at least our one), clean and warm. The breakfast is good quality and has lot of variety. we tried the restaurant the first night and we really liked it. We'll come back again!
Our 3rd stay - it’s a very good option for Baqueira. Room : comfortable double, very clean, and a good size. Free water upon arrival was welcome. The ‘Rituals’ brand toiletries are very nice too. Public areas : I really liked the theme, the artworks on the wall are lovely and there’s a huge replica Nepalese prayer bell downstairs. Breakfast and dinner : excellent buffet options at both - good mix of hot and cold dishes. Although the hotel was busy on our first night, it never felt crowded, and the attentive staff quickly cleared away tables. Good variety of food too. Downstairs bar : ah, a nice spot for an evening glass of Bailey’s and a bowl of popcorn! The two ladies behind the bar were very efficient and welcoming. Overall the staff are polite, smiling and attentive. As we checked out - they gave us a bag with two bottles of water and se sweets, a nice touch for the drive home! Location: it’s at the bottom level of the resort- but everything is easily accessible. Free ski lockers at the base of the gondola (5 mns walk) mean you don’t have to haul skis and boots to and from hotel. Lift pass office also close to base of gondola. Hotel is also near a small shopping area in a covered walkway- several ski shops, a bar, a Haagen Dazs cafe, and a small grocery shop. Other restaurants and bars : walk up into the main part of the resort. Refu : tiny craft beer bar tucked away in the middle of the resort. Really good choice of beers and free popcorn! La Granja - restau close to Refu, good choice of food and always popular. Tamarro : on main road, downhill from gondola mid-station. Lovely duck with a shallot and garlic sauce. Montgarri : pizza and other options, its on the ground floor of one of the apartment blocks in middle of resort. Tendenou - opposite (across road) from mid-station gondola. Good tapas options. Up the mountain- the Bosque cafeteria (to the left of gondola as you get off) has been totally refurbished- huge choice of food options, light and airy inside. Most of the mountain cafes have terrace areas. Don’t miss out on a thick, dark hot chocolate - delicious!
