We have been visiting France for over 50 years and have seen a slow but sure decline in the food. Initially you could virtually guarantee a meal prepared with fresh products cooked with care and passion and most of all bursting with flavour. Now the norm is bland formula fare lacking any taste or flair. The Novotel in Nantes epitomises this trend. Take away the burgers and pizzas and you are left with a limited uninspired menu. We selected the foire gras and again it lacked any wow factor. For the main we had the cod, a piece of fish literally floating in a bowl of tasteless thin liquid plus a few mushrooms. The result was a bit like eating a sponge soaked in an insipid thin soup lacking any depth of flavour. To finish I had a luke warm coffee. Summed up the meal really. Come on Novotel where is the French expertise passion and pride in your cooking gone.
Stayed one night here due business. A real disappointment ! The hotel is dirty, especially the carpet corners in the room haven't been cleaned for a long time. The air-condition doesn't work on cooling resulting in the room being to warm. When opening the window all street noise came in the room making it difficult to sleep. Breakfast below standard. Positive side was that all staff was very nice and tried to help as much as possible, though it was limited due to the state of the hotel.
Really nice place to stay and a good value for money. River view rooms are specially nice. Strongly recommended for all kind of visitors. conveniently located. Food too is good along with reasonably nice service.
The hotel staff is nice and polit. The hotel is well situated to visit the town. The room are good enough but no more. The bathroom is ok and clean. It is not possible to have any lunch and during the weekend all the bar and restaurant around don't serve any food after 2pm you must go downtown.
The hotel itself is fine but the restaurant staff are overwhelmed. I was served a beer and then ignored completely for 20 Minutes as room service orders were attended to. Not enough staff for the number of guests
Hotel is located a short walk away from shops and restaurants and the main area of Nantes is a 10 minute walk away. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but when you go inside reception is clean and modern with helpful staff. Facilities include restaurant and bar, we did not use these ourselves but they seemed popular and reasonably priced for a hotel. We requested a room with a good view which we got, whether or not this was because we asked I don't know, but we got what we wanted. The room itself was spacious, very clean and a good comfortable bed. Plenty of free sockets for charging devices, including next to the bed. Room has small fridge and flat screen tv with a free safe, most tv channels are in French. Free wifi was easy to connect and good. Bathroom has a nice big shower, modern sink and amazing toiletries (particularly the soap!!). House keeping was good as was front desk service. Only issues we had were the room key (only given 1) stopped working half way through the stay so had to get it reset and when we arrived at the hotel we were given the wrong room and opened the door to find somebody else In there!! This was quickly rectified by reception who were apologetic. I have had this happen before whilst stopping at a Sofitel and in way of apology the hotel sent up complimentary beers and a bottle of wine without any prompting, something similar would have been nice - I can't help but think that if we had kicked up a fuss then we would've been given something. I can't see us stopping in this hotel again simply because we have no reason to return to Nantes, but if we did we would without a doubt look at staying here again as it offers excellent value for money and the issues were minimal.
Nicely located nearby the city center. Good parking possibilities available. Constant problems with non-functioning room key. "Due to your phone Monsieur!". Oh, but it is constantly in some Novotel hotels, Madam ... Do you think I am going to change my phone in order to have a possibility to sleep in a Novotel? Well, uh .... we are very sorry ,,,,,
Booked to break up journey home. English speaking staff, clean, quiet hotel. Spacious family room situated about 15 minute walk to huge choice of Restaurants and Bars. Can't coment on breakfast as we thought it a little expensive so followed Satnav out and came across a new supermarket situated just before you get on the motorway. Coffee orange juice and pastries at a fraction of the hotel price. Would book again if travelling that far.
the location of the hotel is good to explore the city. everything within walking distance. but the service regarding bar and roomservice is non-existing. according to the hotel information and menu in the rooms, it's available from noon till midnight. when I made the call at 1530 noone was in the restaurant and no food available till "i don't know....maybe 6". but that's what you have to expect in france....
The location was excellent for walking to the centre of the restaurants and shops. It is very close to the tram stop. The room was very clean with mini bar, toiletries and slippers etc. Could have done with two pillows each and prefer a family room with separate bed for the children now they are getting holder. Hotel staff very accommodating, enabling me to charge my phone, providing cups and supporting with directions etc. The underground carpark is very tight but manageable. Room was quiet even though in the middle of the town. Breakfast was okay with and free for the children. The hot selection was limited. Would recommended this hotel to others.
