We're here right now and the location is perfect! ..pool is wonderful but getting a sunbed isn't so easy if you don't want to wander down at 8am. ..I'm not keen on going down and towelling sunbeds hours before needed but it's a struggle to get one unless you're prepared to do so. Food is very Spanish with little accommodation for us English but hey we always found something to eat. .room is clean and air con brilliant but no kettle. Our loo seat broke and once we told reception it was fixed within half an hour! !!...Maids work hard and we had our rooms cleaned with top ups of toiletries everyday. ..hundreds of Spanish children around the hotel and they are loud but controlled by the adults in the party successfully. ..all in all a good hotel but more 3 star than 4

If you want the real Spain this is the hotel. Not a hotel that serves up British food, it's Spanish. Hardly any English spoken but staff very friendly and will try their best. Remember you're in Spain. Room was fantastic on 7th floor with very good balcony, though the fact it was glass didn't help my vertigo at times. Everything comfortable and clean, with sachets for shower/hair in bathroom, which were replenished regularly. The shutters on our window broke and maintenance staff were sent up immediately to deal with it and did an excellent job. The restaurant, noisy as the Spanish can sound as if they're in a confrontation when they're just asking 'how are you'!!! The waitresses were excellent, they work very hard and deserve all the accolade they can get. Some more staff in restaurant would be good, both for waitresses and guests. Food very good, but I've lived in Spain and as stated previously it is Spanish food. During our 11 days there I only heard English spoken by two other couples. Position of hotel on beach was excellent, always ask for room facing thr Mar Menor. Large pool with plenty of sunbeds, which were charged at 3€ a day. Thought this was terrible, but I just used them without going to look for someone to pay and no one ever asked me for money. Very enjoyable holiday.

Stayed for 1 night for a stop over. Let's start by saying this is a very large hotel built in the 1960s and as such will never win any style awards. It does however offer simple clean accommodation at very good prices The communal areas are clean and tidy, the dining room is fine, just a little busy, the rooms are "classic" in style and are functional however I would'nt like to stay here for a summer holiday. We stayed half board and arrived late at around 10.30 pm the reception staff checked us in quickly and we where offered a cold buffet from the restaurant this was very welcome and even included a litre of red wine and a litre of water per table! My wife has a gluten and lactose intolerance and this was catered for with the cold dinner and at breakfast - at breakfast the gluten and dairy free selection provided was far better than many other Hotels we have stayed in. If you are looking for budget accommodation in a great location then no problem. Remember the Spanish rating system for stars is based around the facilities provided by the hotel and not necessarily the standard of furnishings. Probably 3 stars by UK standards, I would stay again for stop overs.

On entering this hotel you are met with a large reception area nicely decorated and friendly reception staff. The hotel is in an idyllic setting right by the beach - mar menor on one side and mediterranean sea on the other. Most rooms would have sea view. This is where the beauty ends. The room, although with superb sea view, was tired looking and dated. The bedspread was badly stained. The room, although clean looking, had horrible smell which was also in the bathroom and outside in the corridor - like sewerage. In the bathroom the shower had been fixed in the middle of the bath instead of at one end, so you only had the width of the bath for the water to spray. The only thing stopping it spraying over the bath onto the floor was a very flimsy thin pair of shower curtains. Considering it was hot and you tend to have more than one shower the only shower gel provided was two small sachets. The room and bathroom did not come up to the standard of 4*hotel! We asked if we could pay for upgraded room but we were told none available. Mealtimes were just horrendous and utter mayhem. There is no way you could have a relaxing lunch or dinner. Far too many people in one area. Staff were unable to cope with quantity of people. The noise level was deafening. It was worse than staff canteen. Tables with 4 chairs were only laid up for 2 place settings. When we tried to take place settings off another table a member of staff got angry and we were shown a corner of the room where we were expected to go and get 2 more place settings and lay up the table outselves - NOT 4*. After meal we were expected to take plates etc over to corner where we had to scrape clean plates and stack everything onto trolley - NOT 4* As the hotel had 14 floors - the rooms were served by 3 small lifts accommodating no more than 6 people at a time. It was not unusual to wait for at least 20 mins to use the lifts. Absolutely ridiculous. We were booked in for 3 nights we left after one night. This was an absolutely awful experience. Cannot believe all of the good reviews for this hotel - definitely NOT 4*.

This is the second time i have stayed at the Cavanna ,i would defiantly recommend a stay here for a relaxing break. The hotel location is perfect right on the bay of the mar menor with stunning views .I paid just a little extra for a upgraded room well worth it with modern decor on the hight floors .Food is nice but can be very busy had to clear my own table on almost every occasion ,defiantly not enough staff. That is not rely acceptable for a 4 star hotel. One mention is that i booked with the official web page offering a price promise i paid quite a bit extra for this ,i pointed this out to them on 3 occasions but no action was taken it is still on the company web site as i write this review . Would defiantly return but i would not book direct with hotel ,it is a false claim and waste of money

Hotel Cavanna features the typical amenities of a beach hotel with a large pool etc. But what's special to me is the windsurf centre/school. They have quality (AKA fun) gear from Tabou and Gaastra. The Spot is ideal for the south and south west winds but you can also enjoy strong levante wind by getting away from La Manga buildings if the wind is strong enough. The staff is super friendly. I like to get a 10 hour pack for the spring and summer. You can also leave your gear there and use their locker service. They also have hobbie cats. Unfortunately they close the school early after the summer season is over so make sure to ask them when they are closing before paying for the pack or choosing to get there and enjoy the wind

Frequent problems with overloaded elevators. Problems with plenty of noisy children and teenagers. Problems with noise in the room with windows to the road. Simple noise leaking windows and so is heard through the closed windows EACH passing vehicles and also every released by aircondition. Too many people in the restaurant when serving food. Inability to order any drink other than that is directly served. For example, beer. Otherwise, all quite good.

Am sure this hotel was great in its prime c20-30 years ago! Now it's just very tired, v dated, tiny rooms with too many people for the hotel staff to be able to cope with! Breakfast was a particular lowlight...if you could find a clean cup, plate & a complete cutlery set you were doing very very well let alone a place to sit!! Distinctively average & to be honest pretty disappointing. Wouldn't go back!! 2 nights was too many...

We stayed here for 4 days in June. The location is great, right on the Mar Menor and across the street from the Great Sea. This is not a resort and not an overly-impressive full service hotel. The front desk staff made the check-in process rather difficult but we managed. The cleaning staff did a good job. Just don't expect any of the ammenities. Everything cost extra - a chair by the pool, use of tennis and paddle courts... Our room rate included the breakfast buffet. We ate there the first day but the food is terrible. We ate the rest of our breakfasts in a very good nearby restaurant. There are no towels available at the pool so we had to buy some at one of the nearby beach/souvenir shops. We had to ask for the wifi code since they didn't offer that to us at registration. Overall, an okay place for what it is.

All staff welcoming, polite, helpful. Cleanliness good throughout, except for the toilets near reception which were terrible and nearly caused me to walk out - they need to be checked at regular intervals. Our superior room was great except that when we opened the fridge we found it was empty and there was no room service - this was a big deal for us as we were just there for 2 nights for an anniversary and one of the things we like is to have a bottle of champagne delivered to our room with appropriate glasses. I also enjoy using a swimming pool but am a poor swimmer who likes to stay in the shallow end - so the pool not for me as 160cm deep throughout. A great place for a family holiday as the beach by the Mar Menor is accessed from the hotel grounds, but the water only come up to the knees, so not deep enough for swimming. The beach by the Mediterranean is close by through a car park, and across the main road, but we wanted to stay at the hotel for our very short stay. Not aware of evening entertainment although there is a huge function room which reminded me of an old peoples home as armchairs and settees just around the edges. If there were tables and comfortable chairs about with table service available throughout the day we would have been happier. Instead the only bar open, not counting the beach bar, before 22.00h has hard, uncomfortable seating. We had booked half board and went down to dinner our first night - I have no objection to a buffet but we were very disappointed with the very limited choice which, for a four star hotel was not good. So, on our second evening, although we had paid for dinner in the hotel, we cut our losses and ate in a nearby restaurant. I do think that the management are missing a few pointers to pull this hotel up to deserve a four star rating.
