Courtyard München City Ost4.0 out of 5.0

Location is good, walking distance to train station and restaurants, super market. Not close to downtown. Staff was courteous. Room was clean. Onsite underground parking was good but cost €20 per day. Biggest complain is the wifi performance. 12 of us were on a driving tour of Germany/Italy/France/Switzerland for 24 days, and amongst the hotels we stayed in, some in small towns, this Courtyard has the worst wifi performance. Expected much better from Marriott.
A really nice well run Marriot hotel with excellent management, very nice accommodations, super breakfast. As a lifetime Marriot Platinum Elite with almost 2000 lifetime Marriott night stays I know my Marriotts and this is one of the overlooked Gems. Great location easy walk with luggage from the Ostbahnhof and 30 minute S-Bahns from the Airport and minutes to the rest of the city. Nice little bar and adjoining Marriott Residence are also convenient. Has local neighborhood feel with restaurants, grocery stores and bank ATMs. Even has a Burger King at the Ostbahnhof as well as German snack places. Can't say enough good things about the friendly and professional staff and excellent management who were supportive of my needs. Very much appreciated their help. Made our stay in Munich all the more wonderful. So much so that we booked them again for a December Munich Kristkindlmark visit and stay.
This claims to be a 4-star but honestly I cannot see much of a difference to a 2-star rated hotels in Munich like e.g. the Motel One, which is definitely a better value for money. A pretty standard room, clean, quite a good location, but there are certainly options with better value for your money in Munich. Negatives (for a 4* property): - quite inefficient AC in the room - limited room service options (and no room service menu in the room - you have to explicitly ask for it) - very small bottles of shampoo and shower gel not replenished regularly - no bellboy services - we had quite a lot of luggage and had to drag the cart ourselves - early check-in and late check-out payable at a full day price - room not ready for our arrival (cot missing, but arranged quickly) Overall just average.
The Courtyard hotel is conveniently located near the Ostbahnhof (train station). It is an easy 10 minute walk. From there, you can hop on an underground train, a tram, or bus to central Munich or other locations. For us doing business in Ismaning, a 30 minute ride on the S8 train worked out well. It is the same train from and to the international airport. There is also a tram and bus stop right by the hotel. For some groceries (fresh breads, take-away foods) there is Lidl market in the neighborhood 4 minutes from the hotel, as well as an Aldi supermarket and another Lidl near the train station. There are many restaurants and bakeries within 20 minutes walking distance. The hotel is fairly nice with clean and spacious basic rooms, comfortable firm beds and awesome firm pillows (I want to buy some!), a work desk, good lighting and Wifi. Multiple power outlets to charge our phones. Our room had a view of the apartment buildings and green spaces in the neighborhood. As with other Marriott hotels, the Courtyard has an option to skip housekeeping for environmental reasons (water savings because of less laundry) in exchange for points. The odd thing is that you have to arrange the days you want to skip in advance. Breakfast was not included in our booking. We got our daily coffee/tea and sandwich or pain au chocolat at the San Francisco bakery near the train station or from one of the many places inside the train station itself. For the first couple of days, there was a complimentary basket of apples and mini bottles of water in the lobby, but that disappeared after the second day. The hotel staff was helpful and friendly, greeting us with a smile whenever we returned the hotel. Checking in and out was efficient and quick.
Hotel was very new. Condition was very good. Location was fantastic. A very short walk from Munich Central Station. If only there were more English TV channels would be good. Rooms were awesome. Bed was huge!
Nothing to complain about. Decent sized room, nice bed, stable wifi, etc. Location is ok - a few minutes walk to Munich East station which has excellent train connections, meaning that you can get anywhere by a maximum of two S-trains. It is also possible to walk to Marienplatz, but it is a 40-minute walk. I do not understand why many reviewers write that this hotel is located in a "shady neighbourhood". This is definitely not a shady neighbourhood - nothing to worry about in this respect.
OK hotel, the food was good apart from the late night bar offering just pizza! The staff was very good and could not do enough for you. The location isn't far from station, but not much near the hotel you had to go into the centre really.
Regularly visit this hotel for business visits due to its convenient location close to Ostbanhof station. As with many hotels in Germany this is a no frills but an efficient, clean and nice hotel and does the job. Rooms are good sized but basic in decor and amenities. The breakfast is good but not always included. Decent food served at the restaurant. Usually see Many families and airline crew staying here. Staff is helpful and courteous and the reception and restaurant staff speak good English. Checkout and check in can be a little lengthy process during peak times.
They broke rule #1. Don't use plastic waterproof mattress covers. It's like sleeping in your rain coat. If this place had air conditioning it was certainly out of order in my room. The temperature dial just spins endlessly, very cheap hardware, symbolic of the overall place. Breakfast was sub-par compared to other local hotels. You can walk to the s-bahn, but it again is farther away from the stop than other local hotels. Find another spot, you will be happier. This one in a semi-industrial, semi run down part of town.mike2
We rented a car for a road trip and therefore needed a hotel that had parking and was easily accessible. This hotel fit the bill. Service at front desk was friendly and professional. Rooms are typical of a Courtyard. The view is of railroad tracks. So, if you're looking for quaint Munich, try another property. Our room price did not include breakfast but the train station is only a 5 minute walk so we found a great bakery there. Overall, this property was what we expected and we were not disappointed.
