On Expedia this hotel is being advertised as 3 and half stars hotel as it has additional amenities such as Restaurant and has a Bar/Lounge on site. This however is fraudulently advertised as possibly to extract higher rate of income and commission. This is a basic Bed and Breakfast hotel only and if you search the area you can diffidently pay half the price.i am due to report this to Advertising Standards Authorities as Expedia are still even after confirming with the hotel that they do not have these facilities are still advertising these amenities. They have reimbursed me the difference after complaining.
Having read some previous reviews I was a bit needlessly worried. First we got a prepaid taxi from the airport, but the driver had no idea where to go - we did find after asking a lot of people, it's the street right behind the Taj Hotel. Check in was smooth and the porters very friendly and helpful, I would not agree with others that they are constantly looking for tips, just doing their jobs and very well. Our room was for three adults and was large enough and clean, the two main beds were extremely comfortable, but my daughter said that the extra bed was a bit hard but not unbearable, okay for a young person. The room was nice and cool and the bathroom was a decent size with a good shower although this was luke warm one day. They missed cleaning our room the first day but this was soon sorted out. We got a free English language newspaper daily which was a nice touch. Breakfast was nice and varied with eggs, toast, fruit, cereal as well as chicken sausages, snacks, breads and chana masala. It's also in a great location. I would definitely stay here again. We also booked a car for the day through reception - this was 2000 rupees.
I was very disappointed by the staff’s behaviour towards us. The guard banged the door on my friend’s face saying that he didn’t recognise her staying there. When proceeding to our rooms, a staff member forcibly accompanied us till we reached the room door to keep an eye of our whereabouts. I felt unsafe and insulted.
Nice clean rooms with room service, modern bath, air con Wi-Fi etc etc The location is unmatched at the heart of colaba in south Mumbai. Added bonus are the PA PA Ya Asian restobar and Social lounge within the hotel premises. Check this hotel out if you are looking for a mid end hotel!!
Stayed here in December for 2 nights and everything thing was just perfect in the hotel . Location was very nice and food was awesome.Surely staying here again in my next trip to mumbai also would recommend this hotel to others.
Excellent trip in this hotel. I really enjoy and get relaxed after completing my meeting. Very excellent service and foods. Without doubt one of the favorite hotels I stayed during my time in Mumbai! Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the staff. The staff was extremely friendly, the restaurant very flexible (appreciate this!) and the restaurant supervisor deserves a special thanks. We had two great evenings here, which obviously also added up to the experience.
Staying at Hotel Diplomat has been a huge pleasure and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.Clean well furnished spacious deluxe rooms and the lovely meal had at PaPaYa the pan Asian rest. Serving awesome Sushi's.
Very nice hotel & very good service. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was very delicious with many options. The hotel is at an excellent location - just behind Taj. You are at a walking distance from The Gateway and most of the other hangout places in the area. Would surely re comment this hotel to others .
I wasn’t expecting the Ritz to be honest having read some reviews, but what a horrible hotel. I’ve stayed in some dodgy places in my time, but never one as poor as this. 1. The Room. We were initially given 203. It smelled strongly of smoke and looked like a hostel dorm, only enough toiletries/towels etc for one person (3 of us), the fridge didn’t work, the aircon unit sounded like it was trying to take off and a nightclub downstairs. By 9pm we had moved rooms, to a much quieter one so we could sleep, but this was much mouldier! Hotel Diplomat, you must get constant complaints about this room, why do you keep putting customers in here? 2. Location. Is great- opposite a Starbucks (you’ll need that) and just around the corner from the Gateway to India. 3. Breakfast. Frankly, rubbish. Use Starbucks 4. Tipping. I know we are westerners on holiday, but it really isn’t acceptable to have your hand out every time a door is opened or something that was missing from your room is delivered. Getting to our room involved 3 bellboys! Each waited for a tip. Leaving involved 4 different people. It’s rude. Just avoid if you can. It may be cheap, but it’s not worth the extra hassle.
The location of this place...sorry but can’t call it a hotel....maybe a hostel is more appropriate...is excellent. At the bottom of the road look left & there is the gateway to India. Early checkin was permitted but swamped with 3 bell boys to move cases each expecting a tip was a bit much. The room we were allocated was foul, looks like not paint or renovation has occurred in the past 20 years, the fridge didn’t work & the air con unit sounds like a freight train. A nearby bar had live music so my bed vibrates with the beat...called manager up who agreed to move us so by 21:00 we had a different room. New room had mould on the wall but quiet so at least got some sleep. Fridge not working. Breakfast (toast & jam) ok but wouldn’t chance anything else. Definitely not a place to stay even on a budget
