Mercure Thionville Centre4.0 out of 5.0

practicale location in north of France, cheaper then Luxembourg and just short drive away. also close to citycenter of Thionville and next to the river. I had a small room close to the stairs, might have been due to last minute booking, asume other rooms are bigger
Probaby well located for city visits, not so overnite stops: missing own Parking, no late service for drinks or food, located at a noisy/ traffic crossing. Especially when it's hot and need to open window 'cause AC was down... B'fast is poor for a Mercure.
It has Wi-Fi, outdoor and indoor seating, self service, take away, suitable for kids and adults alike. If you sit indoors, you can have a look at the chefs making your ordered food item right in front. It's an open kitchen, clean and sanitized.
dont expect high service compare to other Mercure is is oke but simple the restaurant with Belgium cuisine is nice and for relative low price very good dish i feel happy to stay here just in the centre of Thionville
I spent 1 night at the Mercure Hotel for a business trip. At check in time the receptionist was really friendly and helpful. Breakfast is nice and the location just next to the station is perfect! The room was also nice but could be improved with shampoo and hair conditioner. I also noticed a really bad sewer smell in the corridors at the 3rd floor and in the sink. Good price/performance ratio.
Even with 3 people we had enough space to move around with the extra bed. Also we had a chair with food rest for relaxing. The room was clean and had everything you need. Coffe maker and hot water kattle for tea etc. Only the bathroom need a renovation. The reception ladies have been friendly. The hotel is some steps from the shopping aerea. Very convenient. Not the last time staying there. For dogs owner its very easy to walk them at the river Mosel.
Rented two rooms for several nights for visiting family. The staff were really very kind and helpful. A+ After that it was not the best. Rooms were ok, but new renovations were superficial and sloppily done. E.g new carpet and new headboard for the bed, but in the bathroom simply a coat of paint slapped on over crumbling old paint. Renovations ongoing and noisy/ inconvenient. The worst was the strong sewer gas smell. The lobby smelled all the time. Inside the rooms ok, but when you open the window to the interior courtyard the smell was so strong we had to close the window again. Not at all the standard I have come to expect from Mercure. I would have given 2 stars but the staff were so very kind that I feel generous and gave 3.
The hotel was worn down and in renovation. We where a family, and offered connecting rooms. Reception forgot to tell us Aircondition was broken and windows facing a street with traffic and noise all night - Did not sleep and had to drive 12 hours next day.
It is a typical European hotel. Breakfast was €€ pricey. No air and during a heat wave was very uncomfortable due to all the bars around and parking lot noise. Has changed a lot since I was there last about 7 years ago. The staff not as friendly and they would not admit to knowing any English. Too bad since the last time the staff was so wonderful.
We stayed for 2 nights at the mercure and although staff was helpful and accommodating, unfortunately the rooms need urgent renovations are they are very outdated. Peeling paint, broken locks, carpet stains and to highlight the need for repairs, the air conditioning in the whole building was broken for the 2 days we stayed in. If you need a hotel for a short stay in Thionville, it's OK but don't expect much.
