Yes, there is street noise but that is Morelia. The positive is this is a stunningly beautiful and elegant hotel right on the Zocalo. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff are friendly and there is a nice restaurant for breakfast. Everything is spotless. This hotel is a gem.
This is a superb boutique hotel in the main square of Morelia. The area is steeped in history and the back streets are full of traditional Mexican restaurants and bars. A must for ant visitor to Mexico
Loved staying at this hotel. It is right on the square which is beautiful. It can be a bit loud but that didn't bother me at all. The air was so fresh, we kept the windowed veranda doors open all night. It has such an old world charm. Bed was extra comfy. Staff exceedingly helpful. We were able to do an early check-in for which I am still extremely grateful. They have a wonderful buffet breakfast. In fact, their food all day is excellent.
A wonderful centuries old hotel right on the central plaza. Beautiful lobby with many varied and interesting seating areas, fast and easy check in, efficient valet parking, quickly taken to our room even though we arrived just after noon. Small but well appointed room on the interior so we had no issue with noise from the plaza. Large bathroom well equipped including a hair dryer which my wife loved. Bathroom could have used a more thorough cleaning. Included breakfast offered a decent selection including fruit, eggs, cereal, juice, coffee, etc. We had a bit of an issue with the street side cafe at supper one evening as they charged us for a beverage that was never delivered and they served my wife the wrong main course. When her order was replaced, the food served to her was cold as if it had been sitting in the kitchen for awhile. Except for those smaller issues, we enjoyed our stay and will return to the hotel next time in Morelia.
We had stayed at this hotel a number of years ago and had always wanted to return. We fulfilled this hope in January for an extended stay. We were not disappointed. This staid and gracious old hotel, perfectly located near the cathedral, disdains the fripperies and slick surfaces of the big-time joints. Our room was comfortable and quiet, we slept most soundly, and woke to have ample breakfasts in the dining room. The staff -- chambermaids, porters, waiters, concierge -- were always friendly and helpful. We hope to return again to this warm place.
The Virrey sits on a corner adjacent to the zocala (Plaza de Armas) with wonderful views of the Cathedral and Palace of Justice. It is easy walking distance to all of the major colonial sites in Morelia's centro historico. The hotel itself is an elegant colonial structure with wonderful suites many of which have balconies overlooking the central square. Ours was a large corner suite with canopied bed, sitting area and furnished in period style. The common courtyard has been enclosed and now includes a beautiful lobby area with relaxing seating. Breakfast was very good with fresh fruit, juice, pastries etc. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
I only have great things to say about this hotel. It is a very beautiful hotel, very clean, lots of history in it and the staff is just wonderful. The room was very clean and the beautiful view to the city, the bathroom was nice and clean fresh towels and a lot of hot water. The only negative thing I can say about the hotel, and actually it is not the Hotel's fault, there is a lot of noise outside at night. And we closed the windows and then wooden shutters and kept the noise so wonderfully down, but it would get very stuffy inside the room, because my room did not have AC so we had about two uncomfortable nights because of the noise outside because we had to keep the window opened . Not all rooms have AC. BUT Have a ceiling fan. Overall my husband and I had a wonderful stay in this hotel. And hopefully will be coming back again.
First night was pure misery, no air conditioning and high temperatures. The Wi-Fi signal was so weak it was not worth trying for very long. The second night through the rest of the week the AC worked great and the Wi-Fi was slow, but workable. I also found two pair of underwear in my room's closet that were NOT mine. The building is beautiful and the location fantastic, but I would try another place next time. This is also the most expensive hotel in town, so I would recommend trying elsewhere and just have a drink at the Virrey.
What a pleasure. Our room, with french doors opening up to overlook the Plaza de Armas, was spacious, beautiful and comfortable. The location could not have been better. The buffet breakfast is more than you could possible want. The service was terrifc and the price was an amazing bargain. I highly recommend this hotel. Note: Wifi not accessible in the room, but it is in the lobby and outside terrace bar.
Located in the heart of the city This is an beautiful colonial place. The room 205 was decent and everything appeared cleaned. If you really want to experience Morelia and colonial history come to this hotel. The restaurant has good local food choices. It can be a little noisy but worth the experience.
