If you come here, try and book a beach front bungalow. While there are some short comings such as minimal AC, bugs and no pool, the price makes up for such inconveniences. We found the beach front bungalow to be a solid value.
We stayed here on our honeymoon April 2019 after deliberating whether to stay self-contained or at the intercontinental. We were really pleased with our choice! Moorea Sunset Beach was a beautiful location and a cost-saving option too. Some key points: - super friendly staff who are able to assist with booking tours, restaurants or vehicles. They take lunch between 1-2pm and are closed during this time - shops are within walking distance both left and right outside the property (left is closer, right has an ATM) - facilities in the beach-front room included oven, stove, microwave and fridge, the shops mentioned nearby are small but you can pick up goods for breakfast, lunch and dinner including meat and frozen goods - one of the best beaches in the area, with good snorkeling directly out the front of Les Tips restaurant (adjoining beach) and really good snorkeling out the front of Coco Beach which you can access via kayak - amazing sunsets, as per the name - very family friendly vibe which may not be everyone’s cup of tea but was fine by us - good restaurant options in walking distance to the right - Les Tips serves take away baguettes for 550 if you’re after something cheap. They do not offer WiFi We would definitely return.
When I booked this place I wasn't sure based on the mixed reviews I read and the relatively low cost. But it turned out to be much better than expected. We had a room on the upper floor. It's actually more than a room: a bedroom, a living area, a kitchenette with a full sized fridge, lots of dishes, microwave, a cooking range, etc. Although the A/C is only for the bedroom, if you keep the bedroom door open, it's powerful enough to cool the entire apartment down. The bed is comfortable. The decor is pleasing. The bathroom is clean and spacious. It comes with a washer & dryer. There's also a long-private balcony with a dining set. There are stores in the little village about 10-15 mins walk away. And many more farther away. We ate big, healthy breakfasts every morning at the apartment with the provisions we got from the stores. There's also a food truck parked right by the reception where they serve lunch and dinner most days of the week. They're relatively cheap compared to restaurants nearby. Someone earlier commented on the WiFi being bad. While you can't expect 100Mbps speeds at hotels, in my experience the speed we got here was more than acceptable. The best part about the hotel is that it's right on the beach and next to Les Tipaniers from where you can rent kayaks, boats, etc. I'm usually very stingy with my rating system. I give this 5 stars, not because it's perfect, but because for the price, the amenities and locations, it's underrated.
The staff at reception were always helpful and friendly. I arrived early as I had a car hire for the first few days of my stay and I drove past so thought it would be handy to leave my luggage. I didn’t expect to be able to check in but I thought I would try and the room was ready. The apartment I had was 31 and it was awesome didn’t hear any traffic it had good sized bedroom, bathroom, (no bath) separate toilet, washing machine and dryer, kitchen and lounge area and a terrific deck/patio that had two sun loungers and a table and 7 chairs and a loft with a double bed. Air conditioner in the main bedroom and fan in the lounge and loft. I didn’t use the kitchen apart from cutlery but I don’t think there were many cooking utensils like tongs , spatula etc. oven gloves. something that I think may be lacking is maybe a bbq. You can also get beach towel at reception with a deposit to your room. The beach is great a little shallow but you can walk out to the deeper parts. A few coconut trees for shade and around 2.30pm shade from a large tree. Something that would be great is a hire company to rent loungers by the beach. The weekends seemed busy I guess from the few Résidence apartments in the complex visiting for the weekend. There is two hire companies on the beach one that rents out boats (no licence needed) and one that I think did scuba diving, kayak etc. I hired a kayak for 500 for one hour and went out to the area where you can swim with the rays and sharks. It was rather windy when I kayaked out so a big hard going I wanted to take more photos as I went to that area the day before on a tour. Best to go early in the AM before the breeze. When I checked in they said the room would be cleaned once while I was there but it wasn’t (8 nights) so I guess you have to tell them when you want it cleaned (no big deal for me as I tidy anyway). It’s a 10-15 minute walk to the local village with a few restaurants, petrol station, pearl shops, supermarket etc. there is an ATM also but I couldn’t get cash out each time I tried. There are few few chickens, roosters, dogs and cats around but they didn’t bother me. The new food truck which opened on Wednesday just in the car park out the front near reception is a great idea. Half a chicken 900 and you could get four potatoes for 450. Fries 400 (although no fries on opening as the fryer didn’t seem to want to work). Also had different types of burgers (fish, beef and chicken). They are open from Wednesday to Sunday 11am-1.30pm and 5pm-9pm. I loved my stay here I thought the location was good for me and I liked the size of the apartment it would be Terrific for families as well due to the kitchen facilities and the beach is calm for kids. Tahiti was a bucket list tick for me and it didn’t disappoint. I hope to come back soon.
We are completing our say at Moorea Sunset Beach and found the place outstanding for our purposes. We will be back! I traveled alone with my young daughter and rented the first floor room (second floor by American standards). The room is equipped with a kitchen / washing machine / dryer. The A/C is only in bedroom, but unlike some other reviewers I found it strong enough to keep the whole place cool. I don’t like sleeping in hot rooms, and found room temperature in the unit pretty good. Keep in mind, though, that if you have a large party and you keep the door closed to the bedroom, then people who sleep in the adjacent room might be a bit warm. But that’s subjective. I cannot comment on the A/C situation in bungalows. The hotel is on the beach, with cheap kayak rentals that can easily get you to the area with sharks and rays. Amazing. There is also a restaurant at Les Tipaniers. A la carte breakfast is reasonably priced. We rented a car, so we drove to local restaurants and stores with ease. Vibe: it is not a resort (which was great for us) but more like a laid-back vacation rental community. Don’t expect room service, etc. It expects some self-sufficiency, which was excellent for us.
I had room 52 or 53 believe. This was the "first floor" which to Americans is the second floor. Not ground level. They had a room available before standard check in time which was great as I'd slept in the airport since ~2am and took the first ferry to Moorea. Layout of the apartment was strange. There was a powder room(toilet and sink) by the entry door, kitchen with bar style seating, living area(couch and coffee table). Next to that was the bedroom with attached bath, but this is the weird part. The bathroom was a sink with large mirror, nice tiled shower, washer and dryer... no toilet. Neither of the bathroom spaces had hand towels. There were only 2 bath towels in the whole apartment. No wash clothes, no kitchen/dish towel, no hand towel in the powder room. I booked through hotels.com which advertised no pets but had 2 yippy dogs downstairs that were tied up outside most of the time and barked at every person that walked by to/from the beach. Luckily they were only there for the first half of my stay. Restaurant next door at Les Tipaniers was great for dinner. The Beach cafe was busy ever day I went and never got a table. Beach is a very short walk but keep in mind no umbrellas, chairs or lifeguard. Beach towels could be gotten from reception for 1,000CFP deposit each. 2 small grocery shops about a 10-15 minute walk to the right(when exiting the property) and 1 about the same distance to the left. Most restaurants on the island offer free pickup/drop off rides for dinner if you don't want to cook in the apartment.
We stayed in this lovely apartment for just 1 night but it was enough to say: Amazing! Big house, everything that we need here and great location to start your tour in Moorea. We had the car, so pretty easy to move around.
We had rooms 24 and 22 for 1 night. Pros: * There's a nice, private beach that is about a 5-minute walk away. Snorkeling is pretty decent here. * Lorna and her team (cleaning crew and emergency crew) are helpful and work hard to accommodate you. They're doing their best, but they're working with a property that has some fundamental design issues (see below), which is not their fault. * It is relatively inexpensive. * The amenities are nice: washer/dryer (didn't use), kitchenette, bathroom sink/faucet/showerhead, bed, outside water spout/shower, cute wild chickens roaming the property, tennis court (didn't use), free parking. Cons: * The only room that can be practically protected from mosquitoes is the downstairs bedroom, which fits 2 people. That's because this room is "sealable", and is the only room with AC. So you can close yourself off from mosquitoes, and also turn on the AC. All other living spaces have no AC and are exposed to mosquitoes because, due to the design of the structure, there are many open gaps between the walls and the roof. I'm not sure why this was done, since you're always exposed to mosquitoes and other critters that can simply come inside at any time. Also, in order for heat to escape through those gaps, you likely need to create airflow by opening the doors/windows downstairs, which, as you can guess, exposes you to mosquitoes and other critters even more since there are no protective screens anywhere. So, bring DEET, or just pile everyone into the one bedroom and stay in there - we did the latter since it gets unbearably warm and humid. * There were about 6 baby cockroaches in apartment 22. There were also daddy long leg spiders, which I don't mind (they would help with bugs anyway and are completely harmless), but could creep others out. * The toilet in 24 got clogged, which was somehow tied to the shower not draining properly, either. The shower wouldn't drain properly in 22 as well. * The shower space is weird because only about 1/3 of it is protected by glass, with the remaining 2/3 of it just open, which I suppose looks interesting but leads to a wet bathroom. Also, it seems as if there's a dip in the floor of the shower that is near the drain but not encompassing it, so the water will tend to pool in that dip as opposed to draining. This seems to be by design since both apartments had it, but, why? * In 24, the kitchen sink was leaking. * The WIFI is free but extremely slow, only enough for checking email, not even mobile versions of websites.
This place was in the perfect location! You walk right to the beach (5 min), can snorkel right off the beach, rent kayaks and go to the motus etc. It is awesome! AC in the bedroom only but big fans in the main room. Nice outdoor eating area with a nice breeze.
Stayed here for 6 nights, before going to Bora Bora. Its everything a self-catering resort should be: great service, great location (once you are there), and units have all the amenities. Staff were helpful in arranging transport and activities. Store is within walking distance; we went daily for a few items. Number of restaurant nearby, if you do not want to cook every night. Only downside is the small beach with boat activity. Island is filled with friendly locals, wished we stayed here and avoided Bora Bora!
