My sister and mother flew from New Zealand and four of us (2 adults and 2 children) flew from the US. We stayed in a villa and a suite. We really could not have been happier. Listening to the waves crash on the reef at night, eating together on the patio, feeding the sharks and swimming in the beautiful water, and enjoying both the view of the ocean and the mountain backdrop. This place is idyllic. Really the only time we saw lots of tourists was at the airport. Roland in particular was very hospitable. My daughter and I rode the bikes every morning down to the magasin (store) to buy eggs, bread, fruit coffee etc. About $10 to $20 each day and made breakfast for the 6 of us. To me the most amazing thing was the "coral garden". Half way out to the reef is waste deep water that has visibility for 50 meters and coral outcrops with resident fish. It would have been useful to set a buoy to tie the kayak - it was too far to swim. But we just drifted with the current. Swimming with the neighborhood sharks was definitely a treat and made for great GoPro images. Some of the beds could have been softer is the only negative that comes to mind. It would be very useful to have USB adapters - the outlets are very unusual. We bought some at a store for about $2.50 to charge our devices. Whilst we did not experience mosquitoes they seemed prepared to deal with them. Nearby activities that were highlights were scuba diving (pick up at hotel), eating at Le Lezard Jaune and Le Coco D'ile, and swimming with the stingrays near the Hotel Les Tipaniers
This is not your huge hotel with hundreds of rooms and luxury appointments. It is a bit more down to earth and that is the way we like it. The current owners Rolland and Edmay are very friendly and helpful. We had a single unit with a thatched roof, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen with full facilities. It looked straight out onto the lagoon where there was a long zig-zag jetty. Personally I would be very hesitant to swim there. Each evening Rolland goes out with a wheelbarrow load of fish heads and feeds the sharks. Quite a site to see. Lots of black tip shark and nurse sharks which are pretty big. The local fish do not seem at all afraid of the sharks. I spent hours on and under the jetty photographing fish with an ordinary DSLR camera and got some nice photos. Although some sites like Booking.com say no meals are possible, the truth was quite the opposite. They brought breakfast and dinner to our room where we ate outside under a thatched veranda. It is interesting to try some local foods for breakfast. I had swordfish for dinner one night. It is not a criticism of this location when I say the fish was dry as though it had been frozen. It was exactly the same at every hotel and restaurant in the Cook and Tahitian Islands. Quite disappointing for a New Zealander used to eating really fresh moist fish. I would recommend this location for anyone wanting to avoid the impersonal atmosphere of a big hotel.
Linareva met all of our expectations and more. It is a wonderful resort property on the south side of Moorea, among jungle like vegetation, quiet nights filled with the sound of lapping waves and bird calls. My wife and I loved every minute we were there. The owners are delightful, accommodating and generous. This is true luxury for those seeking tranquility, beauty and a natural environment from which to explore the island. The coral reef a few hundred feet past the dock could be explored for days and days. The bungalow we stayed in, #5, was exactly what we hoped to live in for the week we enjoyed this wonderful home away from home. We couldn't have been happier to be there or more sorry to leave. I highly, highly recommend you do yourself a favor and book into a little piece of true paradise while visiting this gem of an island.
Residence Linareva is amazing! My wife and I stayed in beach bungalow #8 and had a wonderful time. The bungalow is huge (like an apartment) and has a great kitchen that allows you to look out over the water while you cook. The bedroom had a super comfy bed and it was nice to have air conditioning in the bedroom at night. The first evening we arrived the owner threw some fish heads off the dock and there was an epic shark feeding that included 5 large nurse sharks, numerous black tip sharks and 3 stingrays. It was so awesome!!! The property is beautiful and really well maintained. We snorkelled off the dock and the corals and fish were great. The location is remote but you can get a pick up for several restaurants and there are two grocery stores a short bike ride away (there are free bikes). There is a pizza place just next door that has a wood fired oven and great pizza. Owners are very organized, helpful and knowledgable. Overall, we loved our stay and found it truly relaxing. Would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone travelling on Moorea.
We stayed in the garden bungalow #6 for 5 nights. It had a wonderful view of the garden and the Pacific. The owners and staff were so nice and friendly! Shark feeding 2 nights was incredible!!! The long dock made sunset viewing great. Snorkeling from the dock was quite good. The only drawback with Linareva was that breakfast and dinners ( you have to order them ahead of time if you want them) were quite expensive. We took advantage of breakfast 2 mornings ($15 each) but no dinners because they were about $40--too expensive for our budget. Wifi connection was virtually nonexistent. But--- I highly recommend this resort for people looking for an "off the beaten path" experience.
The staff was super friendly at Linareva and the resort was just beautiful with the mountains in the background. I prefer the less touristy locations and it was a perfect choice. Liz brought us a huge fruit tray our first day to celebrate my dad's birthday. We had a car to drive around the island during the mornings and then spent the afternoons relaxing on the beach, snorkeling from the pier, or kayaking. Watching the nurse sharks feed was incredible. We could take photos of the spectacular beach sunsets from our patio and the star gazing at night was unbelievable. The staff was all exceptional and welcoming and there was an honor bar with all types of beverages. We had dinner catered the first night which was delicious. Moustache the cat sat on my lap each day after breakfast so I wouldn't miss my own cats. The queen of the night flower which only blooms once a year at night was getting ready to open just outside my room but I had to leave before I was able to see it. I would love to come back again with my husband.
This was our second trip to Linareva, and it was just as charming as before. The cottages are super clean, the grounds impeccably maintained, and the staff are friendly and approachable. Liz and Melina in particular were fun and welcoming. This is a perfect place to relax on a budget. It's also great for families wanting a self-catering option. Also, many of the local restaurants will pick you up if you don't have a rental car. We'll be back. Merci!
Well here it is 2017 and after 8 years returning back to my favorite resort ON the beach again everything was on par. The rooms and bathrooms got an update but the general feel hear, is live like a local with character and charm. The pier makes a great place to snorkel and take photos from. Rooms are tastefully decorated and the kitchens are fully equipped for cooking up your own meals. Full size fridge, a/c, plenty of views and outside tables completely take care of the rest. Exceptional staff welcomes you and makes sure your set for an awesome holiday. Bus stops on the front of the resort for public transport. On the property there are bicycles , kayaks, snorkeling gear, free wi-fi, plenty of lawn chairs, a large covered picnic table for bigger families, hammocks on some bungalows and TV if you must. If you want peace and quiet and a serene location, then this is it, look no further.
After getting married at a hotel in Bora Bora, my wife and I headed to Moorea to honeymoon. We were so glad to have chosen Linareva over one of the bigger hotel chains. The room had everything we needed – kitchen, nice bathrooms, and beautiful view. The resort is also located on the other side of the island so we were able to experience all the culture by being away from the touristy side and not trapped in a hotel. The owner, Roland, was so friendly and wanted to make sure our stay was memorable. On our last night, he made a reservation at a family owned local restaurant on the water (Sunset). The son of the restaurant owner picked us up in his van and dropped us off. After we had our meal, the owner of the restaurant introduced himself and congratulated us. When we told the owner we were ready to leave and asked him to call his son, he refused and said he would drive us home personally. He left and returned with his Shelby Mustang and drove us home himself! It was awesome. For anyone that is looking for great service and a cultural experience of the island, this place is it. I highly recommend it and will return in the future.
Romantic beach huts with total comfort. Excellent bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen corners. Good swimming and fish watching from the pier. Good restaurants and shopping within short drive. 30 min from ferry. Ferry can be sold out for vehicles so we bought the tickets in advance over the internet. This is especially important for the return trip. Also important is to come early for the return trip as loading line is complicated and poorly marked - we almost missed the ferry by making a wrong turn in the loading line.
