This is a great hostel to stay at in Montevideo. Its located close to the city centre and to everything you need. The staff are friendly and helpful. Its a good hostel to chill back in the evenings and listen to people playing music. The one thing dont stay in room 11 its next to the kitchen and common area so it really noisy if you are trying to sleep before 12am.

Stay completely ruined by a film set

Incredibly during out stay there was a film being produced in the hostel which left guests feeling constantly like they were getting in the way, a general source of irritation to the producer/director and meant the majority of space in the hostel was hijacked by equipment, crew, actors or other hangers on. Simple things like wanting to use the toilet, plug sockets, communal areas or leaving the building became a major hassle. The logical thing to to do would have just been to close the hostel while this budget German film, that nobody will watch, with Z-list actors who will never make it, was being made.....

Good, could be better

Good for meeting people, some good food to be purchased (BBQ), can be quite loud. They said they cut music off at midnight, but that's definitely not true. If that bothers you it'll be annoying because everyone will be into it. I was fine with earplugs. Feels like it's run by people who don't really take it seriously, but that's okay, they get things done.

A HOSTEL, not a Hotel! And screwed up reservation

We didnt stay. When we walked in and could see it was a hostel (which was not apparent when we made the reservation) but we werent prepared to stay in a hostel. On top of that, we had reserved 2 rooms (4 people) with hotels.com, but El Viajero only had one room available. The young man at the desk was very helpful to help us find a nice hotel nearby for very little more cost.

I spent only 1 night, it is a big house with only 1 heater, so it was really cold in there, specially if you have to take a shower.
