Do not be afraid to venture from the giant resorts to experience this gem in Montego Bay! There is no better way to really experience the city and appreciate its culture, its people, the lovely beach just down the street, etc. We were going to Jamaica to stay with friends at Sandals Montego Bay and decided to go a few days early and stay at the Polkerris Inn, explore the city and the countryside, and we are SO GLAD we did! Room/Inn: We actually stayed in Room 1 in Vista de la Bahia, and it was a lovely, spacious room with a beautiful, direct view of the bay and the gardens outside. We were concerned about the room having 2 beds, since we normally book a King room, but the beds are queens and there was plenty of room. The design and decor were modern and airy, and the bathroom was huge with a very nice walk-in shower. Vista de la Bahia is managed by Peter and Elaine. I believe Jeremy runs Polkerris. I was thinking there would be a lot of back and forth and we would see both properties and both sets of owners/operators but they are a little more divided than that. We never walked up to Polkerris, but I am sure it is equally lovely, and I can certainly enthusiastically endorse Vista de la Bahia. The pool area was well-maintained with plenty of chairs, surrounded by plants and flowers. It was the perfect place to catch beautiful sunset views after a busy day exploring, and it was such a peaceful way to start the day, sitting outside and enjoying a made to order breakfast. We opted each day for the authentic Jamaican breakfasts - ackee and saltfish, callaloo and saltfish, mackerel 'rundown', etc. All were fabulous. Exploring the city/countryside: If you like to get a feel for the culture of a place and explore all it has to offer, do not be shy about asking Peter for suggestions. He will work with you to determine what types of things you like to do, coordinate professional and friendly drivers, and you'll be catered to with a private experience that is less than half the price of booking through a tour company! We rafted Martha Brae (highly recommend!), had Michael as our driver there and from the airport - he is great! - and we did the South Coast tour with Cliff - equally great! We walked everywhere and never felt unsafe. At night we walked down to Tracks and Records, Usain Bolt's restaurant, and loved that the Inn was walking distance from everything. There are people cooking on the streets at night so there is always plentiful local food with a vibrant and friendly scene. We were never harassed by local vendors. If we were asked about buying something I would just say "no thanks I'm good" and they would smile and wish us a happy vacay and that was that. Just a couple of suggestions - when you arrive, be sure you know where the innkeepers stay (which room) and how to call them on the hotel phone (I think it was "dial 41") since there is no formal reception desk and I didn't see any info in the rooms about that. I had their cell numbers but my cell phone (Verizon) wouldn't call their numbers for some reason. If you are in that situation, use WhatsApp to call local cell phones. We found that was the only way to contact local numbers via cell phone from the US. Lastly, I want to extend my gratitude to Peter for going above and beyond to help me recover my bluetooth speaker that I inadvertently left behind when we checked out. He and Elaine are truly great innkeepers and a top notch resource for experiencing this beautiful country.
It was my fist time to Jamacia and the first day was a horrible experience booking with Air BnB. It was almost midnight but the time we found a place until I stumbled along Polkerris through Expedia. There was only 1 room left so I called and I spoke with Elaine who was very sweet and waited for my fiancé and I to arrive to the property safe. When we woke up the next morning it was like a breath of fresh air. We had a wonderful breakfast every morning; traditional Jamaican and American. All of their staff is so nice and helpful, it really felt like I was staying with family. The room was very clean and cooled, fresh towels all the time. It’s literally next to everything in Montego Bay and the beach is only a 10 min walk or less. I will always come back to this place when visiting Jamacia!!!
We stayed in this special hotel for 3 nights, and loved every minute of it! The owner Peter made an effort to handle everything for us. The superb service included a personal breakfast, tour booking, very calming luxurious rooms, a magnificent pool, unique view of the Caribbean sea from our room. Hopefully we'll have the chance to visit this special hotel again and again! Noam & Igal
The Polkerris is top class and is Montego Bay's best kept secret. I spent 7 days here and it is the best time I have ever spent anywhere. The rooms, the food, the gardens, the view, the service are excellent. I was cared for and pampered. The owners are remarkable hosts and the staff are truly attentive and caring. Thank you Polkerris I left you rejuvenated..
All of the reviews are accurate! I stayed here for 4 nights and Peter and Elaine are excellent hosts. They have carved out a little oasis in Montego Bay! The B&B is secure, clean, updated and centrally located. Our communication with them ahead of the visit was excellent and they checked-in with us everyday to ensure we had everything we needed, help with planning activities and to get our breakfast order for the next day (excellent, authentic Jamaican fare). It really doesn't feel like a hotel but more like you're staying with close family friends. Audra (housekeeper) and their arranged driver were awesome as well. You can't go wrong with this B&B!
I don’t even know where to start! This place is absolutely amazing! The owners Peter and Elaine made us feel very welcomed from the moment we arrived and were very attentive throughout the week. We got an email from Polkerris with the instructions how to arrange the transaction from the airport right after we booked the room! Michael ( the driver) met us at the airport and was waiting for us before we got outside! The room was beautiful and the whole place is sparkling clean! The view from our room was exceptional! The terrace with the pool was my favorite place! I will definitely miss having breakfast by the pool while looking at the beautiful blue water! The breakfast is the whole other amazing thing! Every evening Peter or Elaine would tell you the choices and the hardest part is to decide, because everything they make is absolutely delicious! We were eating local Jamaican dish every morning! My favorite was ackee and salt fish, which is Jamaican national dish. The Polkerris is right of Hip Strip and walking distance to multiple places. Margaritaville is just down the road. We felt super safe while staying there and walking around. Peter provides us great drivers Michael and Kevin for trips we were taking or to drive us to our booked excursions. The drivers are amazing and tell you a lot of interesting things about the places we were driving by. Basically everything was absolutely great! Not a thing that was bad except we had to leave. Would love to come again!!!!
Lovely stay at the Polkerris in MoBay. We stayed in the smaller building's deluxe king room. Owners were so kind and always went the extra mile in the little details! They helped us with all travel arrangements and set us up with Michael as our driver. He took great care of us!
We had the absolute pleasure of staying at polkerris for four nights. From the moment we arrived till the moment we left, we were well-looked after in beautiful surroundings. Prior to arriving, communication was easy and straightforward. We were met at montego bay airport as arranged and made the short journey to polkerris. We stayed in Vista de la Bahia Room 2. It was beautifully decorated with a large soft comfy bed, modern bathroom, air con etc. The view is outstanding looking across the sea and breakfast is served on the patio overlooking the pool and the sun rising every morning - bliss! Peter and elaine serve all sorts for breakfast but we opted for the array of different Jamaican specialties including salted cod, ackee, pepper steak amongst others. Aside from making your stay at polkerris as comfortable as possible, Peter will also arrange days out with a series of wonderful drivers (especially Michael). When I told him I was interested in seeing some local art he suggested a small gallery around the corner and arranged a friendly taxi driver! Overall we have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are sad to be leaving. Highly recommend to everyone and our stay is consistent with the string of excellent reviews on TripAdvisor!
Owners Jeremy and Clarissa Bennett and their entire staff extend fabulous hospitality as you relax and enjoy your stay at this beautiful inn overlooking spectacular Montego Bay, Jamaica. Be sure to take several tours with their driver Michael Burgess. He is a tour guide extraordinaire! Be sure to try the extraordinarily generous and delicious Jamaican breakfasts served daily on the upstairs balcony. Have dinner there, delivered from The Pelican Grill, and enjoy the beautiful breezes and the magnificent Jamaican sunsets! This was my second visit and I look forward to my next visit!
Just returned home from this lovely 5 night stay at this lovely property. We were looking for a stress free, relaxing place to spend our 34th anniversary and found it in Polkerris. Clarissa and Jeremy, our hosts and their staff were attentive and helpful and the breakfast was delicious and filling. The view from the veranda overlooking the Caribbean Sea was a beautiful way to start the day. Clarissa got us a reservation at a nice restaurant for our anniversary then the restaurant said they were full. Michael the driver was available to book excursions. We were very happy with the property and our stay and would recommend this location, it is walking distance to the Hip Strip. If you are looking for a party environment this may not be for you. If you are looking for stress free serenity this is the place to be. We look forward to returning again... D & R
