Stairway to Haven ~ Family Cabin in Monte Rio
Stairway to Haven is the quintessential family cabin in the redwoods. Located on a hill above the Russian River, the forested property feels private and away from it all but is only a few minutes to the Russian River and the charming resort town of Monte Rio. With a hot tub, outdoor dining and BBQ grill, a balance of sun and shade, full kitchen, and plenty of interior space to spread out, this rustic cabin is a wonderful home base for your next Sonoma County getaway.
Stairway to Haven is the Russian River standard. Built in 1930, the cabin retains much of its original charm. The open-beam cathedral ceilings in the living room, warm and inviting wood interiors and numerous windows framing the redwood trees are classic and delightful, the perfect backdrop to experience and enjoy our laid-back River lifestyle.
Kicking back in a rustic cabin does not mean giving up on creature comforts, and guests will find that the home is well-appointed with some updated amenities. The full kitchen is equipped with everything needed to cook and serve meals (no dishwasher due to septic requirements), hot water is on demand, the central heat keeps the home cozy in the winter and outdoors has a gas BBQ grill and a 7-person hot tub. With Comcast wifi and 3 workspaces (including an office), those that need to work a bit on vacation will appreciate the space to do so.

Wonderful spot
The five of us really enjoyed our stay. The property is wonderful and well stocked. We were surprised to have the hot tub maintenance person show up one day around 8am, but otherwise it was an extremely peaceful and private spot. Would stay there again!

Amazing location-beautiful home-not for small cars
We had a wonderful time at this home!Pros: amazing location, we walked to the river and it was a perfect swim spot. we saw ospreys, owls and bunch of other cool birds. There are plenty of extra towels and linens and the hot tub was amazing. Kitchen had everything we needed and was comfy to cook and share meals at. The views from all the windows are gorgeous just trees forever. The fireplace was comfy and there was cool books to look at as well as tons of board games we played. The house is stocked with chairs and wagons and things to take to the river. It felt like there were a lot of things we could use which I really appreciated!Cons: The top floor and bottom floor are not connected so for a group that you want to share space with that was a little awkward but could be great if you want more privacy The downstairs unit has a full bathroom so that was nice. The upper driveway is incredibly steep and has some dips at the bottom making it hard for cars with FWD and/or low clearance. One of my friends actually got fully stuck trying to leave and we had to have a tow truck come to get us out. The driveway at the bottom of the hill has gravel but the rocks are big and loose so I couldn’t get my car up the driveway (I have a SUV with a lot of clearance but not 4WD)We made it work but it seems like this spot might be best for bigger trucks and SUVs with 4WD/AWD and a lot of clearance. The house also wasn’t super clean when we got there (food in the couch, some blankets had

Cozy Treehouse Vibes
We enjoyed this cozy cabin for a weekend girls trip. The cabin gives off an 'old cozy' feel and is definitely secluded. The driveway is VERY STEEP and was a fun adventure getting up. There were plenty of board games/puzzles to play and the kitchen was well stocked with plates, cups, pans, utensils, etc. We were unable to use the hot tub but the property manager was really responsive and tried their best to troubleshoot the issue. We enjoyed the quietness of the cabin overall.

Great little get away
The cabin was just as picture. A little rustic with modern touches throughout the house. The kitchen had everything we needed for our meals. It felt like we were staying in a tree house. Very private and beautiful scenery. Management was awesome when we had a power outage. And, whoever Scott Baxter is….he got the power back on within a couple of hours! Thank you for sharing your Cabin with us!

Great Stay
5 friends gathered for the weekend to attend the Russian River Rodeo. The place was super charming and had everything we needed for a delicious Friday night summer BBQ. The decks are sweet, cool and comfortable and the decor delightful. The only issue was the downstairs toilet didn't work despite a plumbers quick visit. We'd come back again with assurances that the plumbing worked downstairs.

Would stay again (but walking that hill isn’t a joke!)
Overall, we would stay again. The house is clean, private, peaceful, and we had easy and great communication with the property management team.
The best bedroom and bathroom are downstairs with its own entrance (completely separated from the rest of the house - i.e. living room and kitchen).
The walk uphill from the main street and river is a serious climb on foot so be prepared for it. Our car was able to make it up the driveway, but that was also very steep, and not for everyone.

Rainy getaway
My family enjoyed the property as it was big enough for everyone and pet friendly. We stayed during the rainy months and enjoyed playing games and cuddling up near the fire place. I strongly caution the very steep driveway. If you have a four wheel drive, that is preferred especially if it is wet out. Otherwise good accommodations.

Perfect for a quiet getaway.
This was a perfect location for us for our last getaway this summer. Loved that there was a separate entrance for the downstairs portion, gave us some privacy from the rest of the family!
