I stayed at the hotel for 5 nights and i totally enjoyed it. I stayed in a room on the 10th floor with magnificent view over riviera marina. Room was clean and tidy. Staff was super-friendly. Breakfeast very good. Highly recommended.
It’s a pity that I need to write a bad review about this hotel to start with. There are many positive points about it, yet the consistent issues at breakfast time, and poor service in the restaurant make of this a place you want to stay away from. The best: Room & guest services As I paid for a “Riviera” room, sea views were great. Guest service was also a highlight. They take the time to come into your room a couple of times in the afternoon / evening, to leave a nice chocolate and re-do the beds! I even got a complimentary wine for joining the rewards program. Overall a very pleasing experience. I strongly felt sorry I wasn’t a Platinum member of Marriot, as I am of Hilton and IHG, so was enthusiastic about trying more options. The worst: breakfast experience Unbelievable. Firstly – I did pay breakfast separately, so I was surprised people were just coming in and out without any control. Basically anybody could walk in and have breakfast. All tables were dirty. Nobody was cleaning them. So it was like a low-end buffet experience, where two different occasions I needed to clean my own table and find some help. The place looked like a mess. In the attached pictures you can see what I am taking about. The check-out At check-out I expressed my concerns to a lady named Joelei who said she couldn’t help as I had booked through an external partner: Expedia, and asked me to call them to see if they could refund my breakfast. Well, no – I don’t have time to call them but I do have time to write a few reviews on what a terrible experience this was. Stay away.
I totally understand that Marriott brand hotels in Europe might often not guarantee the same level of decor, customer service, and convenience that is usually found in the US, but this Riviera Marriott is definitely disappointing. The Good: - Decent value compared with other overpriced (and also not up to US/Asia/Middle East standards) Monaco area hotels - Location: just at the far East end of Monaco and a quick a 5-min cab ride to Place du Casino - Nice Marina and Sea view (if you get a room with a view) - Good annexed (and reasonably priced) garage parking - Decent speed wifi The Bad: - Front entrance is a joke. Hidden around a wall and with almost no space for luggage loading/unloading if other 2 cars are there. - No Executive Lounge - No Valet for parking - Sub-standard lobby - Very small and outdated elevators - Room (Junior Suite) decor and furniture/finish are from the '70's - Outdated and small bathrooms - No updated electronics (outlets, plugs, lighting) - Poor customer service at front desk/management As Platinum Elite guest, I was given a choice for arrival gift and, as always, I chose points (I always get breakfast in the restaurant or in Executive Club for free). As I was not hungry in the morning, I only had a coffee in the restaurant before leaving for my business meeting. At checkout, the manager charged me the full continental breakfast amount, as she said that in Europe free breakfast is an arrival gift choice and it is not included. Even after I told her that this was news to me (and I have stayed at countless Marriotts throughout the world and Europe), she still did not even offer to either void the full charge, or at least charge me only for the coffee... Despicable! Also, beware! Cabs in Monaco do not use an official meter...I spent over 100 Euros (35 Euros for just a 5-minute ride) over the course of my stay. Next time I will stay at the downtown hotels...in a better location, higher class and with a little higher price that is offset by the lack of the need for taxi transportation.
The marina front location is great but the hotel inside is very dated and scruffy in places. Ive stayed a number of times (because its convenient for work and there has generally been something wrong with room, albeit mostly minor - broken shower tap, no hot water, patio door doesnt shut properly etc). The hotel needs a total refurb. The restaurant is ok but room service menu pretty limited and very expensive for what it is. If you don't need to be this side of Monaco then better options to be had. Bar prices are horrific and service only ever been average at best.
The room is good, but basic for Monaco standards. The lobby is kind of outdated, but you don’t pay for it either, so that’s fair. I would visit again, given the price-quality ratio. If you are going for luxury, this may not be the place for you.
This hotel needs a complete make over as the whole property including the rooms look like they havent had any money invested in them for 20 years. Dirty carpets, old decoration, and basic lobby and dining area. AC doesnt work so the balcony door must be left open all night. Breakfast buffet is basic but ok. No reasonable restaurants nearby so you have to take the hotel shuttle or a bus (cheap and frequent) or taxi to central Monaco to find a selection of eateries. Good marina view from the room. In general I find that a lot of Marriott properties around the world are looking like this. I am a Gold member but seriously looking for another chain to give my business to.
This hotel was beautifully located. Splurge for a harbor view with terrace. Service was top notch. Drive up to front and they will park your car for you which is great because parking in Monaco is tough. Breakfast was delicious and had a lot of offerings. Overall we had a great stay and would highly recommend!
Honest & factual - fair review Me and my partner visited Monaco for three nights and stayed in the Marriott. I must start by emphasising this is rated on most sites as a 4.7 Star and officially as a 4 Star! Upon arrival we were greeted and well looked after. The room was spacious, nice and modern - offering the sea view we opted to pay extra for. Unfortunately, there were several areas where this hotel seriously failed. After paying £498 for two people in Mid March - we were shocked to find out that hotel parking would cost €25 per day, breakfast would also cost a further €26 per person, per day and to rub salt in the wounds decent WiFi costs €15 per day (though the €5 works just as well). On the first day we ordered dinner, for me, the MARRIOTT burger with Egg, bacon and chips. It arrived with no egg and half a piece of bacon. Not sure if someone got hungry on the way up or the chefs aren’t paying attention to their menu? We also ordered Tagliatelle which was quite literally a bowl or over cooked pasta with tinned tomatoes. On the first morning we ordered breakfast to arrive for 09:45 - 10:00. It finally arrived at 10:21 - I must say - the deliverer was very friendly! The breakfast was small and I felt there was little value for money, however, it was cooked to a high standard. Another positive was highlighted when we took a free shuttle from the Hotel into Monte Carlo (usually €30 by taxi). So in summary, if you want to have all the basic amenities (book a Hilton, Novotel or Mercure for less money and have all the basic extras listed above), or you can pay £796 for this shambles of a Marriott for 3 nights just so you check Facebook and have breakfast.
I spent 3 nights at this Marriott, the reception staff is helpful and friendly, loved the view from my bedroom, food served over breakfast was diverse, tasty and abundant, I guess it was difficult to warm up such big lounge, which had a huge glass wall overlooking the marina. It felt chilly in the morning. Dishes on the dinner menu seemed delicious, I only tried a few, very well-presented! The Chefs must be really good at their jobs. However, the service is very slow, there seem to be a lack of attention to detail, waiting staff came across as so unexperienced that i made me think they were students having a work experience. The bar staff was friendly and helpful, but I think they should be careful when talking to each other about what they did the night before in front of the guests, in their mothertongue ;-)
We booked the room with the sea view and it was so amazing! It also comes with a little gifts from the hotel (chocolates, organic juice, and a bottle of wine). It was a nice touch!!! It also comes with a free bottles of water and they gave us 15 euro vouches which I used at the bar :) The view from the hallway is also amazing.
