Holiday Inn Mexico City - Plaza Universidad

Great room, wonderful beds and linens (although the duvet is a pretend duvet - it's just two sheets folded in such a way that it always comes undone and tangled), great pillows. Good solid towels, but not enough towels. Only one wash cloth at the sink (there should be two so we didn't have to share). Great AC. No refrigerator or minibar. But that's okay. Great service. Decent food in the restaurant. Overall nice location, convenient to Coyoacon. This hotel is much more convenient to Coyoacan than the Holiday Inn Coyoacon, which is nowhere near Coyoacon. The only terrible flaw is the architectural design of the bathroom. It's a big flaw. The toilet has a glass door (frosted, so there is some privacy), but... it's not really a door. Whatever sounds happen in the toilet echo throughout the entire room. There is no door separating the bathroom area from the room. There is an identical frosted glass door on the shower, but nothing else. When you walk from the bedroom area into the bathroom, there is no door. If you are travelling alone, this is fine. No big deal. But, if you are a couple, or with a friend, get to know them, because they will hear EVERY sound you make in the toilet. Not the best for couples who want their privacy. This is not the fault of the hotel. It is the responsibility of the design firm and the architects who really missed the boat on this one. Oh well. Otherwise, the hotel is fine. Parking is not included. It's $100 MEX per day.

I have been in several Holliday Inn, they are good. But in this case I felt some lack of attention to details. Coffee machine didn’t work, minimalistic number of towels in the bathroom, hard to find in room menu ... it just didn’t feel alright. The location of the hotel itself... that’s why I give only 3 stars.

Our friend booked this hotel for us. It was 1.5 miles from his home. We were greeted by the bell hop, valet parking attendant, concierge. His name is Daniel. He was extremely friendly to us. We checked in very easy. Room was very nice. Clean, plenty of towels. Hotel breakfast is surprising delicious for a buffet. Wait staff excellent. Shower head is very strong. Shower stall was larger than most hotels. Gym was clean and plenty of equipment. We had the pleasure of driving in Mexico City, not for the timid or faint hearted. We reserved a taxi to airport through hotel at 5:25 am We felt very safe and secure. 220 pesos, pretty cheap for a 9 mile trip. Wonderful time in a city that gets negative reviews from time to time.

I have stayed at this property twice, both times for work. It’s a well-run hotel with big rooms, good Wi-Fi, a nice breakfast buffet and 24 hour fitness center. The staff speaks great English and are really helpful. The only sightseeing options nearby is Coyoacan so I don’t know if this is a good place for tourists. The neighborhood is quite good with lots of retail and food options. For example, just a few blocks from the hotel is a Wal Mart, Office Depot, Starbucks, etc. If you want to go local, the Mercado Atoyac Santa Cruz is a five minute walk and there are plenty of good Mexican eats close by: El Ring Tacos, El Bajio, Fandango, Tamali, and several paleterias. I think this is a good hotel, great value for the money. But the main reason I wanted to write this review was to praise the staff for their handling of the earthquake on Sept 19. I was at work when the "sismo" hit. It was pretty scary. After a while I was able to get back to the Holiday Inn. It was "all hands on deck" with Holiday Inn staff in the lobby entrance greeting all the guests returning. We were not allowed to go up to our rooms while they did the safety inspection so all of the guest hung out in the lobby and restaurant and we all watched the news. The kitchen did not have gas service so food options were limited but they did their best to feed us. And we had internet so we could send emails to our families to let them know we were safe (could not make international mobile calls for a few hours). The staff did a great job being visible, asking us if we needed anything, and keeping us informed. It was really well organized. And the important thing to know is that each of these employees has family and friends in the city and they had no idea at this point if their loved ones were safe or not because the phone systems were temporarily off line. Their dedication in looking after the guests in the face of the uncertainty in their private lives was commendable. Eventually we were able to return to our rooms. Yes, there was some damage, but it was all cosmetic. And by the next day there was a small army of masons, contractors, dry wallers, etc. fixing everything. The hot water was back and the kitchen was full service. And once again the staff was super available and friendly. I plan on staying here again in the future. Bravo Holiday Inn!

Brilliant room, cosy and comcortable. No city noise and sweet personell. Great place to stay and affordable rates considering price/quality. Unfortunately not much to do in the surrounding area but close to coyaocan (about 15 minutes taxidrive)

Excellent hotel for the price. The surroundings are not that great, but not bad after exploring things carefully. A nice mall across the street. Got a good upgrade as an aspire customer and that was excellent.

I was happily stranded because of snowmaggedon for two days. I had booked a flight through Mexico city as connection with Aeromexico. I booked the hotel from my phone while waiting for the kilometric customs line. The price was fair for a coyoacan location and holiday Inn is always a comforting move in an emergency. Nevertheless, I hadn't been in DF in 25 years so I didn't expect much. I was quickly proven wrong. Nice and modern lobby, decent FOP service. Do not let the "1976 Olympics athletes dorm" feel through the hallway to your room demoralize you. This is the only part that reveals the age of the building, you know, over built mazes with skinny cement walls and lots of sealed glass windows with botched repair jobs. The room was a nice surprise. Great King size bed with decent sheets and pillow pillows. But above all, AC outlets, dozens of them, everywhere. What a relief. Hot water was available at all times and the room was clean. These conveniences made up for the occasional strong sewer smell coming out of the toilet at times. To be fair, this phenomenon occurs in many places, from Milan, Madrid, Paris, etc. Anywhere where the pipes under the buildings are older. And it wasn't constant, at least. Although breakfast is not included, I can tell you that it's totally worth it as I found it to be spectacular. They have an amazing assortment of hot, cold, salads (be careful of course) and breads. Forget Café Tacuba and tourist traps like that. Of course you can eat better, but you will have to pay more and this place is clean and convenient with modern decor. I am considering coming back to Mexico DF on vacation and bringing my family and definitely staying here again. It really is that good in terms of value for money.

The very best of this hotel is the service. Everybody in the hotel is very nice, especially in the restaurant. Indeed, people from the restaurant make you fill like you were at home. The restaurant is great both for eat there or pick something in the menu and ask for room service. The junior suite offers a good space, a very nice office to work and a great bathtub. There was one bottled water per day in my room, very nice. What they could improve is the check-in process. I arrived very early due to my flight, asked for an early check, which was unavailable, but is pretty normal. I was very tired, they took so long with the check-in that I was finally able to go to my room almost 2 hours after the regular check-in time. According the front desk people, it was because the cleaning process. I really did not understand why, if I was waiting in the hotel since the morning. Check-out process is kind of slow too, but I did not find any problem. You should be very careful with the internet fee. Initially they told me it is free, in some point it asked my for some login and password warning me about fees. During my stay I asked in the front desk about it and again they told me it is free and I should not worry. But in check-out I have some daily charges for internet using (and I am an IHG Rewards Member eligible for free internet). Anyway, I have no problems when I disagree in pay for these fees.

My cousin booked this hotel for me and I literally checked out of the hotel yesterday. During my stay the staff was excellent! All of them went out of their way to make my family and I special and they were very attentive. First inspection of the room was that it was clean and has a modern look which I love. There is a glass partition between the sleeping area and the bathroom/shower/toilet area which I was unsure of as I was rooming with one of my adult sons but we would just let each other know if it was ok to pass by or ask if they were dressed. For another family, this may be a problem. The rooms were impeccable and everything was in working order. It is an energy efficient room so when you enter the room, you must place your room card (key) into a slot by the front door and it will turn on the a/c and the lights for you. Upon leaving the room and you take your card out of the slot you will automatically turn the lights and a/c off. Pretty clever! :). Everything was in working order and when our tissues ran out they replaced that and all the little shampoo and conditioner bottles daily when we used it up. The shower is a very large size which I loved! I have a large shower at home so I was very happy to have a large shower on vacation as well. The flooring was a teak floor as well so it did not feel as cold as tile would have and also slip proof. :). The entrance to the hotel was adequately staffed and when I had a hair stylist come to do my hair they required that I go downstairs to sign her in for security reasons. They seem to know who belongs in their hotel and who doesn't. The bell hop was very attentive and as soon as you approach they ask if they can help you carry your things in. There is a restaurant in the hotel and we ate there several times as well. The food was very good and the prices were good as well. Their chicken and rice soup was delicious! They have a breakfast buffet which was delicious but unfortunately we were only able to have breakfast there once due to our busy schedule. My son loved their quesadilla's and wraps. We even had ice-cream there in the evening after a full day of sightseeing and walking. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. The only downside to my stay was that my side of the bed was hard for my taste. My son loved the comfort of the bed though so for that reason I didn't take this into consideration in this review. I do want you to realize that it really depends on your personal preference. I did ask for 4 extra pillows and they were kind enough to to bring it up to me quickly. One more item I'd like to share. Although the hotel faces a very interesting store which the whole family wanted to explore but we never got the chance to, this hotel is so close to a Walmart and also a little mall area. We felt safe there as we walked to both places and we returned before 9pm which was the suggestion of the hotel staff as there is a little area that does not have much lighting in between but it is such a short area. My son on the other hand walked to Walmart around 10:30pm by himself and had no problems. We also ate at this little restaurant directly across the street. The family loved the food there but the selection is very limited. To summarize, I would visit this place and stay here again. The location was good and we used UBER drivers to get to all of our destinations. We felt safe and we had such a great time that we are planning another trip to Mexico City soon! :)

Was there for business. Internet was fast and reliable. The blast selection was pretty good but not cheap. Overall it was ok but the location was not great. Nothing really you could walk to. Also, I had requested a king size bed and was told they had oversold king size bedrooms.
