Just amazing! This was a amazing hotel with a wonderful staff. Location is perfect for site seeing. Check out Cardinal restaurant for breakfast right down the street the hot chocolate is out of this world. This hotel is truly an must have experience!

Was an amazing stay very polite staff and the room was amazing with the view. We ate at two of the restaurants in the hotel and both were very good.

I and my family stayed 3 nights it this hotel. It was one the best hotels we ever booked. There was nothing we could complain about.

Everyone was so helpful and friendly any questions I had they were ready to assist me .

The staff couldn't have been more accommodating and attentive to every detail. It started raining right before we wanted to go out for dinner. The doorman immediately brought us two umbrellas. It was our honeymoon and we asked if we could get a room upgrade. The concierge immediately found us a room with a view of the plaza . Just an amazing experience.

Everything about this hotel was amazing for the lone night we stayed there. The beautiful decor, good service, proximity to attractions, etc. we will be staying here again if/ when we come back to Mexico city!

Gorgeous hotel, high ceiling and classy interior design. This hotel also has a good restaurant upstairs that you can see a great view of zocalo and cathedral. I would love to use this hotel again!

I arrived early and the room was not ready. I am nt sure whether they could offer an alternative room, but the reception guy did not make any effort to find one. Rather than this one guy, everything esle was great. The only thing is that the room decor is quite oldish, but this is what one expects from such a classical hotel.

This is a beautiful historical hotel located right in center of Mexico city. The staff was welcoming and friendly, Wi-Fi was excellent. Downside, the hotel is from the 1800s....that being said...plumbing needs upgrades, there is a distinct sewage smell that permeates the room. Our room had a window we were told had a view to a garden this garden turned out to be a fake wall mounted paper mural of trees. This stay was disappointing for my family.

I was extremely happy with our stay here. First, for the entire week we experienced world-class customer service. The staff couldn't be nicer. Very helpful, friendly, and caring. It helped that most were bi-lingual (since my Spanish isn't very good). The terrace restaurant afforded a 5-star view and we found the food and bar pretty good, and again, that wonderful view of the Zocalo. This great view cannot be highlighted enough! The room was comfortable, very clean, and well-maintained. Also, the lobby is spectacular. Even on day seven, I found myself staring up at the fantastic Tiffany stained glass ceiling. I highly recommend this hotel.

Very comfortable and large room, posh bathroom, beautiful and upscale interior, superb location (right next to zocalo). No swimming pool though. We did not try the food. Excellent price for the room and lower than nearby American chain hotels. They were also very relaxed about having two children in the room, which was not a trivial requirement.

This is a wonderful luxury hotel in a former opulent department store reminiscent of the Galeries Lafayatte in Paris. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Many of them speak English.

The staff is very helpful always in a good mood, hotel is beautiful, you feel safe

This hotel was great. The staff was fantastic (loved the hats everyone wore). Gave us great recommendations for restaurants and did a great job arranging tours and taxi service. Our room was comfortable except for the air conditioning. The temperature seemed to swing +/- 10 degrees. The cafe, bar and rooftop restaurant were all great. Our particular room didn't have much of view but this wasn't important to us. The free wifi throughout the hotel was great! We had just come from a resort in Puerto Vallarta which promised free wifi throughout but it only worked in a few locations in the lobby and restaurant so it was a pleasant change to be able to get online so easily.

The hotel experience was wonderful, especially the staff. My wife and I are seniors, and we enjoyed our stay. This was our first time to Mexico City, and hopefully we will visit again and we plan to stay at your hotel. We very much enjoyed our breakfasts, and the service of Estafen, a most gracious waiter.

The Gran Hotel was recommended by a friend because of its history and proximity to the Zocalo. Within a few minutes, my family was able to walk to the magnificent Mexico City Cathedral, the archeological site & museum at Templo Mayor, & the murals of Diego Rivera at the National Palace. The staff at the hotel was exceedingly helpful, especially Roberto, who patiently answered all of our questions and provided sage advice. The terrace restaurant offers a breathtaking view of the Zocalo and surrounding area.

I visited Mexico City (MC) for the first time (11/26 to 11/29/2013) and stayed at Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico. Excellent location in the Zocalo, the historical center (plaza/square) of MC where the city's main Cathedral (Assumption of Mary), National Palace (version of US Capital Hill/White House), some ruins (Templo Mayor), shopping, subway stop are located. Each day, the army raises (8am) & lowers (6pm) the flag in the square - very grand to see (good photo op). Walking distance to two art museums. Hotel is very grand, old world & beautiful with stained glass lobby ceiling and marble floor (awesome). I went to MC along and felt very safe in area/hotel (lots of police due to Zocalo/main tourist spot). Open air Terrace restaurant on hotel roof has awesome view of Zocalo plaza and food is good. Other restaurant is in lobby and more reasonable in price. My room (#218) is huge & beautifully decorated with a "fake" courtyard view (interior room). Its really the view of a roof but roof is beautifully decorated to make the roof resemble a courtyard (an excellent idea)!! It would be nice if hotel could build a door to the "courtyard" roof from the room as an extra bonus. However, lights in room were dim. Room was immaculately clean. Service was great and staff very helpful & responsive. Water is purified (hooray) and water pressure is great (good hot water too). Has mini fridge and coffee maker in room. TV is good but needs more English tv cable stations (only two, CNN and Warner). Hotel reception & restaurant staff are so friendly & speak English which is great!! Starbucks coffee across the street!! No ATM or gift shop in hotel but banks, stores and fast food restaurants on street. I did not bring my laptop so can't comment on WIFI service but I believe its free. I did bring my cell phone & got good phone reception in room, lobby and restaurant. Menus in Spanish and English. Has English worded digital alarm clock (great). Has a little notepad - front page has hotel logo, address, phone on front and blank back page to write on. This is good since you can tear a page to carry with you if you get lost. However, my room had no pen (needs a pen in the room, I had my own pen but should be included in room). Hotel lobby bar only on Wed night thru weekend (its a piano bar which is nice). Room has individual temperature control (good). There are 2 modern European style (means small) elevators for daily use which is good and fast. FYI - 2 antique elevators only used when you first arrive which is understandable (too difficult to maintain if broke but nice welcoming touch). Nice amenities (free toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, shaving cream, mouth wash, moisturizer and soaps) which is great!! A piece of chocolate left on bed each night & first night get a little treat (doll and history of hotel - great personal touch)!!! I would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay here on next visit to MC.

We had a wonderful time with our stay. There were a couple small issues with the room and they sent someone right away to correct it. The staff was friendly and attentive.

lovely hotel, great location, pleasant staff. could have lived without the hurdy gurdy player on the street, but i'm chalking that noise up to atmosphere.

Second time staying at this hotel. Love it!!! I would definitely stay there again
