started our holiday on the 9th sep 2016. a delux sea view room, a very nice view, however I would not have said the room was delux, they did offer dressing gowns and slippers, on the face of things the room was clean, but when you looked closer you could see that it needed a deep clean, the patio doors needed a good clean, as did the shower cubicle, ( you know all those hard to get to places ) the food was mediocre at its best, to be fair my own pasta was 10 times nicer for flavour, I found it hard to believe being in the home of pasta, the food was always Luke warm or cold. and if you are on a diet its hard to get a tidy meal, plenty of salad of an evening, but they were very slow to fill up the empty trays, first day or so, their were no yogurts left at breakfast, so I asked the waiter if their were any yogurts he said no all yogurt gone for today, and as soon as I'd finished my breakfast they filled up the yogurts, so clearly they had yogurt, the waiter just couldn't be bothered to get them, I did have a glass of house wine one evening with our meal, it was just ok, you get get better in your local supermarket, we didn,t do a lot of drinking, as they didn't seem to cater for the diet drinkers market, ie slimline tonic diet coke , diet bitter lemon, lemonade etc, so I'm sure they lose business, they also didn,t make it very comfortable for you to want to stay in the hotel, the main bar was at the pool, ( a very nice pool ) but I for one didn,t want to be at the pool in the evening being bitten to death by evening bugs, added to the fact I couldn't get the drink I wanted, we didn't bother, only twice did we hear any entertainment, in two weeks one of those nights was the night before we left, a local folk singing group, One thing I have to say is , if your not good on your legs this hotel is not for you, it,s up a very steep hill, that even the youngsters were having problems with, yes there was a bus every now and again, but we didn,t use it, you could pay for internet in your room, otherwise it was free, at the pool restaurant, reception area, I did use the running area a few times ( gym ) 5 running machines , 1 bike, 1 power lifting machine, no water, the hotel did cater for all nationalities but the bulk were german, also had a lot of holiday groups coming and going, the area of gioiosa mare. didn,t have a lot to offer, and most places closed down from anywhere between 2-4 hours lunchtime, most of road ways were ok, the tolls are a bit confusing , make sure you have euro coins. as they are not all manned, and on two occasions we didn't get change, the Sicilian drivers are a law unto them selves, we did enjoy our holiday, but it was not what I expected, I had wanted to go to Sicily for about 30 years and finally got there this year, however it did not meet my expectations, maybe I was thinking of it through rose tinted glasses, we found a lot of graffiti, an awful lot of rubbish and litter. and it was missing that Italian feel, that other Italian places we have been had, so if your looking for nightlife, this is not the place for you, if your looking for excellent food, either in the hotel or outside the hotel, this is not the place for you, if your looking for clean white sands, and a pristine beach , this is not the place for you,
My Partner and I spent last week at Hotel Avalon Sikani ... and loved it! The rooms were clean and nicely decorated and not to mention the views are incredible. The swimming pool too was fantastic. The staff were friendly ... especially Loris by the Pool bar. Food was good
The hotel is made of several buildings with some parts still under construction. The buildings are along the hill so every room has a balcony with a fantastic coast view Nice and always clean large rooms. Beautiful "infinity" swimming pool Very friendly staff speak several languages. Regular and free minibus service to beach and the local town. Food was OK for tourists, but too few local dishes (local town has better restaurants) Private parking quite useful although sometimes difficult to get through because careless guests park their cars in the way of others. Virtually no entertainment in the evening besides a drink at the bar.
The views of the pool are not over exaggerated. The infinity pool was beautiful with views overlooking the sea. Staff were very friendly. All the waiters and Carmella in particular were helpful. Loris at the bar was very interesting to talk and made a great impression on us. Admittedly the hotel was not within easy walking distance of the sea so a car is helpful. The hotel runs a shuttle service to the beach and town if needed. Food was varied and there was a limited choice of hot food but tasty. We found transfers from Catania airport challenging but enjoyed the two train journeys from Catania to Messina and then Messina to Gioisa. Do not get a taxi from the airport anywhere as they are a rip off. Got charged 30 Euro from the airport to the train station. Train service is amazingly cheap in Sicily and Italy generally. We enjoyed seeing so much of the country by train. Would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to visiting again.
Totally unfriendly and amateur staff, mediocre food, all inclusive option it's not all inclusive ( from 11 till 22 only beer or wine , other drinks only from 20:30 to 22. If you came to hotel at 10 am first meal for you it's dinner starting at 19:30 "because all inclusive option it's starting from 15" ). " Private beach" it's not private and it's 3 km from hotel ( bus from hotel it's free but it's going only at 11, 12, 15:30 and 18:30 and take only 8 people. It means that if 20 people it's waiting it may take even 1 hour) and for everything there you need to pay. Pool towels cost 3 € and if you require fresh towel everyday it will cost you 3 € per day. Overall this is not place i will wish to return.
Have been there during two weeks. If you come from Messina/Catania (exit Patti) please note that the last 300 meters of the SS is closed due to stones on the road. This will last the rest of the year. You will then be directed over a steep hill. First time it was really frightening. The second time I was deadly nervous to drive there to Taormina. The third time it was fun and by now I am missing it! It takes you from Catania 2,5 hours by car. Parking the car is somewhat difficult. But after a fwe days L learned that you can park your car everywhere on the premises, also there where it is prohibitted. On TV you have more than 100 Italian channels, and also BBC, CNN, Eurosport, ARD and ZDF. I cannot understand the remarks that the food is cold and not varying. We had All Inclusive and had lunch and dinner. It was always tasting and varying. If you don't like Italian food just go to Spain. The AI formula is indeed somewhat limited but first of all you could know this and also the price you pay for this is reasonable. Unfortunately they don't have light drinks (Pepsi Max etc.) Outside the beverage card you can order caffe' crema, iced coffee. Great! The AI cocktails were White Lady and Pina Colada. They tasted very well. The rose I didn't like but the white wine was tasting. Staff in general friendly. Loris is a great guy but Maria and Rachelle do need to attend 'how do I deal with a customer on a friendly way'. My God they were grumpy! There is no animation. There are three bars (lounge bar, not open, lobby bar, not open, and the pool bar). At the pol bar in the weekend a DJ (great music), a duo playing Italian hits and a Sicilian folk group. We enjoyed it! There is one restaurant with a great view. We met some people from Siracuse but forget to ask their address. I mailed the hotel afterwards and in the end Salvatore blocked the issue in a rude way. I can understand they may not provide customer details but they could have asked these guests who checked out a day earlier for their consent. There is a small gym where you can run. You need a car unless you want to stay in the hotel during your stay, Walking into the town is not doable. We tried it once but turned halfway. The hotel was not full, only in the weekend when locals are staying. great to see how the invade the pool area in the morning and then all leave at 11.30. There are plenty of beds, so no need to reserve a bed at 05.00 am! All in all: a great holiday. We love Italy and its people and food.
I just have come back from a week holiday with my mum. Hotel is very clean, the rooms are very clean, the pool area is immaculate and has the most stunning views. The hotel provides a shuttle to the village and beach which is great and costs 3 euro for each trip but well worth it if you don't want to drive on the steep roads. Bad points about the hotel. We were all inclusive, the food is nice but very limited. I wouldn't call it 4* food at all. There is salad available but it is the exact same every day. Pasta and soup is available but this is always stone cold and also the meats and vegetables are always cold. If you're lucky to get the food when it first comes out, then it's hot and really tasty! The hotel needs to invest in proper equipment to keep the food warm. There is food to eat everyday but it can be repetitive so going into the village is well worth it. You are only allowed 1 drink if you are all inclusive or half board at dinner. The drinks stop at 10pm from the pool bar and you are only allowed cocktails from 8pm so again this isn't 'proper' all inclusive. The hotel wouldn't allow us to extend our room for 2 hours. There are so many rooms in the hotel that I can't believe they didn't have one room available. You can tell the hotel is not full due to the amount of people at meal times and by the pool. No snacks available in between meals either, again is strange for an all inclusive so I found myself paying for some snacks. Salvador on reception is actually the rudest member of staff I have come across. His attitude stinks. So dismissive and not wanting to help; again brings down the hotel when one member of staff is so unwelcoming and rude. Please note though that other staff have been a delight. The pool bar man Lordis was lovely. The receptionist Samantha, Barbara were amazing and the all the waiters in the restaurant were a unreal, always trying to remember our drink orders and always so friendly. Again, I must stress the hotel is so clean, the pool is amazing and relaxing. I just think they are missing the touches you expect from a 4*. But definitely a lush hotel.
We stayed at the Avalon Sikani in June and cannot thank the staff enough for their patience and helpfulness. They went out of their way with my limited Italian to do whatever they could to make our stay comfortable. The room was lovely with an amazing view of the bay. It was very clean and a good size. The breakfast ranged from continental to cooked with everything you could possibly want. The location is perfect and the infinity pool is fab! I cannot recommend this hotel enough! We hired a car from the airport and you definitely need one if you are planning to see the sights.
Stayed as part of our honeymoon trip. We hired a car at Catania airport and drove to this hotel about 2h 30 mins. I don't think we would have arrived and would still be driving around if we did not have a satnav. Especially as a road was closed close to the hotel and we needed to take a very windy and steep detour (i presume due to landslips). The hotel is high up in the rock overlooking the town and as a result the view from the room is amazing. The room was nice and clean. It was great the watch the sun go down over the sea and watch the swallows flying around. Very helpful staff on reception, who particulary looked after us when we got a parking ticket in town. Lovely fresh food in the restaurant (loved the anti pasti) and the waiters were very friendly. Friendly bar men and limoncello. There is not much to do in the town itself, but experience the local restaurant and chill out with a coffee and tasty pastry in the many cafes. Thank you for a great stay.
We stayed here for one night on the 11th of May. We called and booked, rented a car and drove for three hours to get there since we wanted a night at a nice hotel with a pool during our one week stay on Sicily. When we came we were informed that the pool was closed which of course was a disappointment since the English website didn't say anything about this. But a bigger disappointment was how the staff treated us. One kept repeating that "the pool is open from June to September" like we were stupid but the thing that we questioned was that how were we supposed to know when this information couldn't be found anywhere (at least in English). The pictures of the pool were everywhere on the website and the staff didn't believe us until we showed them the website from our phone. The staff just tried to blame everyone else, including us. This is not the type of service you could expect from a four star hotel. Mistakes could happen (that you forget to inform or write something on your website) but it's how you treat your customers in these situations that makes the difference, a few Euro discount didn't make any difference for us either, I would still like to have some money back. The rooms are nice but the customer service from the reception is overshadowing this experience.
