We stayed in this hotel from 16th of July until 23rd with full board accommodation. We choose this hotel because of the advertised beautiful sea view and despite the beach is far away from the hotel there is a shuttle. Unfortunately the nightmare started immediately after we have received the room. To reach our room we needed to pass 4 buildings through elevators with no ventilation. My wife is pregnant so I started to think that this is not a good idea. When we opened the room we saw the "stunning" view - the elevator and the ceiling from the two buildings in from of us (see the attached photo). The room number was 4207. If you receive it ask for other one. We immediately asked for a new room, but the hotel declined to change it despite the pregnancy of my girlfriend. They told us that the hotel is full and in the same time a lot of people constantly checked-out they rooms. They asked us to pay 30 euro per night plus for a room in building 2, but there was a constant noise from the ventilation of the hotel and we declined this "offer". To reach the beach you need to wait a shuttle which is only 6 times per day. So when there is a lot of people to go on the beach there is always a stress if you will be able to get in or you need to wait another 30 minutes. Don't think that you will be able to get in even if you are first in the queue - this doesn't matter even if you are pregnant. When you want to go back from the beach to the hotel you need to wait on the sun - there is no shadow on the bus stop. The beach is very disappointing as well - rubble and a slippery rock inside. I heart my leg badly when I go for the first time and wasn't aware about this. There was also a lot of red jelly fishes in this beach. If you need to go to buy a water the supermarket is 1 km from the hotel but with 120 m elevation which is very difficult when you bring 6 bottles of water on 35 degrees. The good this is that the food was good, but not a lot of choice. The breakfast was always the same. I regret that instead of having good vacation I lose my time and money in this hotel. We will never come back in Sicily and this hotel for sure!
The service in the hotel and the restaurant was very good. We stayed full board. They served a variety of meat, fish and sea food every day. And of course delicious pasta and spaghetti :). Fresh vegetables and tasty wines. There was something for every taste. The rooms were cleaned every day. All rooms had a balcony with a stunning sea view. The only thing I see as a minus is the shuttle to the beach. There is only one bus for 8 people and you have to wait for the next bus if the first is already full. While waiting there is no place were to hide from the sun and it can get really hot.
This was our first European holiday together as a couple and we got a great deal that included car hire, 7 nights in this wonderful hotel and flights to and from Catania with a website called Going Luxury. Gioiosa Marea is perfectly situated on the coast, and Avalon Sikani has an almost birds-eye view of the entire town. Starting with the aesthetics, the hotel is beautiful - it's very European with its multi-coloured buildings, but is extremely modern both in the common areas and the hotel rooms. Our hotel room (2216) was in probably the best location that we could have hoped for, we had to take the 1st lift to level 4, cross the bridge, and then we were on the 2nd floor of the building to the far right. The views from the balcony were picturesque, and definitely postcard-worthy. Every morning it was a treat to wake up to a view so beautiful, and even better with the sunset. Our room was lovely inside too, very clean and comfortable, and the cleaning staff were very good with keeping on top of towels and bedding. Now onto the food, my fiancée is Coeliac (Gluten Free), so we made sure we checked with the travel agents and personally e-mailed the hotel to confirm they were on board and aware of this. On arrival, the receptionist was very helpful with checking us in and explaining where we were staying in the complex, and straight away mentioned about the dietary requirements that we had specified, which put our minds to rest. We had the half board option, so breakfast and evening meals were included. We cannot sing enough praises for the restaurant and waiting staff, especially Massimo and Francesco, 2 of the hardest working and most helpful people we met on our whole trip - they brought my fiancée GF bread every meal, GF biscuits at breakfast, and were very accommodating when we requested Gluten Free pasta with what they had on offer at the buffet. The food for myself was lovely, although seldom labelled, which just meant I had to try things to see what I liked ! The desserts were different every night, same with the evening buffet, a large variety to choose from with some staples such as salad and cooked meats. The swimming pool was definitely the selling point for us when booking this trip, and it is even more beautiful in person. It has incredible views of the Aoelian Islands and the Sicilian coastline to the west, and is an incredible sight at sunset too. There were plenty of sun beds and umbrellas, so we were never stuck, no matter what time of day we went down. The infinity pool also feeds 2 smaller, shallower pools below, designed for small children, and there are also extra beds and umbrellas there too. The pool bar is very handy, and if we were all inclusive, would have definitely been something we would have utilised more, but we still had a few drinks there in the day and evening. We would return to this hotel in a heartbeat, it's definitely not on the budget side, but you get what you pay for, and it's incredible !
We stayed at the hotel from 7th of July until 11th. We took the half board accommodation with breakfast and dinner. One morning, at the breakfast, I took some boiled eggs that I was planning to eat. After pealing the egg shell, surprise, the smell coming out was the smell of a corpse, they were rotten. We called the waitress and showed her. She took the rotten eggs away, came back with 2 fresh boiled eggs that were still hot and said " sorry, you can eat those, they are fresh". OMG OMG OMG We never touched the eggs since that day and smelled everything before eating. We also went to the reception of the hotel to tell them what happened and they said they can't believe it. Same day, at dinner, they offered a glass of wine as an apology.😃😃😃 I'm in my first trimester of pregnancy, with a very small baby on the way. The hotel was full of kids. I do not trust or recommend this hotel, I believe it is cheaper for them to put on the table food that wasn't eaten days before, but this is dangerous for the consumers. The balcony was nice, with a nice view, but fool of birds 💩. The towels are old and the bath robes had holes inside, should be replaced with some new ones. Also, we had 🐜 in the room but that wasn't such a big thing, only funny. The pool though is really beautiful, with the most amazing view. Overall, it was a bad experience and I was happy to leave that place. PS Not recommended for a young couple.
Wow - all rooms have these great views, and a nice balcony with chairs to relax and enjoy what you see. We had a great time here. Reception staff were friendly, room had comfortable beds, good airco and a functioning fridge, the infinity pool is really nice, plenty of great nearby things to do and places to visit (Tindari, Gangi, Cefalu etc). Good breakfasts as well, with lots of choice, in the buffet restaurant. But the restaurant is quite boring if you go there for dinner, and the dinner food is average quality, and in view of this, somewhat overpriced. Couple of criticisms.......: 1. No wifi in the rooms - for wifi you need to sit in the central reception area or the buffet restaurant. For such a modern hotel, this should be improved. 2. Those elevators.....if you are in tower 3 or 4 you need 3 or 4 different elevators to get to your room. We were only in Tower 2 and already found having to always need 2 elevators became a nuisance, and you lose a lot of holiday time this way. Especially if 1 of the 2 elevators in Tower 2 does not work and despite notifications to reception is not fixed. And the elevators are easily overloaded, especially when busloads of tourists simultaneously use it. 3. Parking - there is hardly any parking facility, so you need to manoeuver your car along the single driveway, hampered by parked touringcars. The steep drive up the hill to the hotel may be a challenge for less-experienced drivers. But despite these criticisms, a very pleasant and comfortable stay, we may well return here.
This was the first time we visited the Island, we choose this hotel based on the stunning views we saw on the pictures online. We were not disappointed, from the room we had a balcony overlooking the Meditertanean Sea and the Aeolian Islands, which was stunning. The rooms were a fair size and comfortable. The view from the Pool is also fantastic, and is certainly the feature of this hotel. It alone is worth booking this hotel. The staff were extremely friendly, including the bar staff who were helpful through out. The food at the hotel was nice but the menu was fairly small, liking sea food certainly would help. The hotel organised an excursion for us to the Aeolian Islands, including being picked up in the morning to be taken to the Port. Also they offer a shuttle to the town centre until 11pm, this was certainly a nice touch. The town Gioiosa Marea itself is very quiet, with a few bars and restaurants, but a very pleasent small coastal town. Overall we had a fantastic stay and would certainly consider returning at some stage.
Other than the beautiful hotel, cleanliness and very good food, the staff is the best ever. Welcoming us on our arrival was this lady with a wide smile on her face, who already made us feel at home. Than we met the bartender, very nice, gentle, funny and a bit crazy, great person. Waiting staff including the head waiter was nothing as we ever met before, very helpful, always with a smile on their face, they also noticed our preferences and anticipated us in our wishes. Great, the director should be proud of them. Thank you all for making our stay so wonderful.
started our holiday on the 9th sep 2016. a delux sea view room, a very nice view, however I would not have said the room was delux, they did offer dressing gowns and slippers, on the face of things the room was clean, but when you looked closer you could see that it needed a deep clean, the patio doors needed a good clean, as did the shower cubicle, ( you know all those hard to get to places ) the food was mediocre at its best, to be fair my own pasta was 10 times nicer for flavour, I found it hard to believe being in the home of pasta, the food was always Luke warm or cold. and if you are on a diet its hard to get a tidy meal, plenty of salad of an evening, but they were very slow to fill up the empty trays, first day or so, their were no yogurts left at breakfast, so I asked the waiter if their were any yogurts he said no all yogurt gone for today, and as soon as I'd finished my breakfast they filled up the yogurts, so clearly they had yogurt, the waiter just couldn't be bothered to get them, I did have a glass of house wine one evening with our meal, it was just ok, you get get better in your local supermarket, we didn,t do a lot of drinking, as they didn't seem to cater for the diet drinkers market, ie slimline tonic diet coke , diet bitter lemon, lemonade etc, so I'm sure they lose business, they also didn,t make it very comfortable for you to want to stay in the hotel, the main bar was at the pool, ( a very nice pool ) but I for one didn,t want to be at the pool in the evening being bitten to death by evening bugs, added to the fact I couldn't get the drink I wanted, we didn't bother, only twice did we hear any entertainment, in two weeks one of those nights was the night before we left, a local folk singing group, One thing I have to say is , if your not good on your legs this hotel is not for you, it,s up a very steep hill, that even the youngsters were having problems with, yes there was a bus every now and again, but we didn,t use it, you could pay for internet in your room, otherwise it was free, at the pool restaurant, reception area, I did use the running area a few times ( gym ) 5 running machines , 1 bike, 1 power lifting machine, no water, the hotel did cater for all nationalities but the bulk were german, also had a lot of holiday groups coming and going, the area of gioiosa mare. didn,t have a lot to offer, and most places closed down from anywhere between 2-4 hours lunchtime, most of road ways were ok, the tolls are a bit confusing , make sure you have euro coins. as they are not all manned, and on two occasions we didn't get change, the Sicilian drivers are a law unto them selves, we did enjoy our holiday, but it was not what I expected, I had wanted to go to Sicily for about 30 years and finally got there this year, however it did not meet my expectations, maybe I was thinking of it through rose tinted glasses, we found a lot of graffiti, an awful lot of rubbish and litter. and it was missing that Italian feel, that other Italian places we have been had, so if your looking for nightlife, this is not the place for you, if your looking for excellent food, either in the hotel or outside the hotel, this is not the place for you, if your looking for clean white sands, and a pristine beach , this is not the place for you,
My Partner and I spent last week at Hotel Avalon Sikani ... and loved it! The rooms were clean and nicely decorated and not to mention the views are incredible. The swimming pool too was fantastic. The staff were friendly ... especially Loris by the Pool bar. Food was good
The hotel is made of several buildings with some parts still under construction. The buildings are along the hill so every room has a balcony with a fantastic coast view Nice and always clean large rooms. Beautiful "infinity" swimming pool Very friendly staff speak several languages. Regular and free minibus service to beach and the local town. Food was OK for tourists, but too few local dishes (local town has better restaurants) Private parking quite useful although sometimes difficult to get through because careless guests park their cars in the way of others. Virtually no entertainment in the evening besides a drink at the bar.
