This magical architect´s design/owned beach house is set inside a seventy years old same local private family compound with only four summer houses in it. Settled between five acres of private coconut palms and the south backyard and the Gulf of Mexico emerald green waters.
The house hosts a unique permanent exhibit of the owners´ passion for collecting maritime treasures from colonial Spanish 16th century artifacts as well as contemporary quality decor plus real navigational charts.
The furniture and decor of all private and social rooms match the architectural design, both aspects conceived to the feeling of a beach house and not “a city house by the beach”.
Privacy reasons have made the owners not to accept participation in design contests.
Going Green was a most with solar panels and the use of local dune plants from the area thus respecting nature. A careful planning of winds/sun light in all areas was mandatory in the design making soft atmosphere for sunny months and cozy ambience in winter time (assuming that winter sometime will be in Yucatan).
Six comfortable royal steps receive the guests to the main Guanacaste wood door next to side gardens showing an old anchor (19th century) sitting on the sand. Stepping into the hall a navigational rouse compass centers the room floor under a ships lantern hanging from the wooden ceiling.
Open lattice wall and glass/wood windows overlooking a garden receive you inside. To the right, on ground floor level, is a large two bedroom with fan, AC, full bath and large walk inn closet with independent sink, working desk and bedfoot tables. Bedroom and bath overlook a private garden and Guanacaste windows allow fresh air in addition to AC.
An interior garden gives way to the reception and dining area, under a beautiful wooden ceiling, classic style wood fans, AC and great Guanacaste furniture. Dining table for eight people host all chinaware and silver ware. Main hall furnished with comfortable cushions in great decor create a warm atmosphere overlooking another interior garden and on its left side a nice built in bar with sink and hidden shelves to shake martinis and enjoy the gaming table and large seventy inches flat digital tv.
Kitchen is a chef´s dream with wood cabinets/granite and courtesy lights, equipped with all necessary tools (blender, pots, coffe, microwave, roasting electric oven, full oven…) to cook meals to artist´s level. The main kitchen granite isle and high wooden chairs are magnificent to enjoy good conversation while cooking with garden views and fresh sea breeze ventilation. The whole house, everywhere, is protected by fine mesh of mosquito nets that can be pushed out of view if not needed.
Making the way from the main entrance to the second level, an ample staircase with ships bronze fittings and sisal rope holdings open to a corridor and a decorative bookshelf with chair an reading table, next the entrance to the two second floor magical ocean looking bedrooms, each with AC, fans, full independent bathrooms and walk inn closets. Each room with its own balcony facing north to the ocean and hammock hooks in the inside, the way yucatecans sleep.
From the mail hall to the ocean terrace a serpent aisle bordered with mayan stones take you to the kayak/paddle board gear and pool filter room. Next to it is a large twenty four by fifteen social hall terrace fully equipped with AC, fans, minibar, high quality plastic ware (for use in the pool), sink, full bathroom, dining table for eight and a large bar provide all amenities to enjoy the pool and a breath taking view of the Gulf of Mexico waters. A private wooden stair brings guests down to sand beach level, the beach is being under a lot of high tides pressure and changes its situation constantly, it is secure to swim in this ocean with gently short waves and low warm water level with no strong currents wich resemble more a lake than an ocean.
Defensive geotextiles are set to avoid further erosion, which we hope will be not for long, until the beach grows back again.
Ocean water is never cold, mostly warm and fresh in winter times. You can always swim in these waters´ temperature. A shower on the outside provide fresh water for removing sea salt before entering the pool.
