Have visited this hotel many times over many years. So disappointed with the changes that have been made. The fantastic " Professional" staff ,at reception, and restaurant have mostly been replaced. The amateur replacements , seem incapable of running an organised regime. The canteen extension has reduced the poolside area , and produced a previously unheard of competition for sun beds. The dining room is unorganised, tables are left for guests to clear and find suitable seating. So sad. Modern does not mean better in this case. Was Four Star now under Three.
We have been many times over the years but recent changes have made it even better -- the overall feel was much improved and the ambiance great -- Jose was great as was Teresa in reception and they secured our preferred room which was much appreciated and showed they care -- also Fran in the restaurant was always on the case and provided great food -- can'understand those that post any thing other than positive comments - if they want to stay in a dated hotel then go elsewhere because this was cool, laid back and relaxing and we could not even if we were looking find any fault -- we are already looking forward to returning for another great holiday -- many thanks to all the team -- Robert & Alison Kinniburgh
It takes approximately 15 minutes to walk the length of the main road in the resort. ALL of the staff are SUPERB. Most of the guests are over 50. We emailed the hotel and requested a quiet room and we weren't disappointed. The room was on the a 302–318 run.(There are four floors on that side of the hotel.) The balconies overlook the sea and Vista Mar apartments, so we weren't overlooking the pool, dining area and all of the other guest's balconies. We had the sun in the afternoon on our balcony. ROOM Firm beds Plenty of electrical sockets and mirrors Quiet mini fridge Cushioned flooring Air con boosted by ceiling fan Large liquid soap, body lotion, shower gel and conditioner Walk-in shower Free Wi-Fi DINING Cheeky sparrows are everywhere, eating the crumbs off the decking ☺️ Best to wait for the early diner's rush to be over, otherwise you could go back to your table to discover someone else is sat there! Microwave available to reheat food if necessary POOL Free pool towels which can be swapped daily at reception Outdoor classes for Pilates, yoga, stretching and walks available Well equipped "Powertec" gym equipment in the gym Piped music around the communal areas SUNBEDS Bali beds for hire at €35 Apparently, the hotel can accommodate 375 guests. There are 39 wooden sunbeds with pads and 81 woven plastic and metal sunbeds available. Melia have created this sunbed hierarchy, so is it any wonder that people are clambering to get the few wooden sunbeds that are available? The wooden sunbeds are padlocked together overnight so that people can't drag them underneath the thatched parasols before breakfast. The early risers get round this "problem" by hanging their towels underneath the parasols!
Just returned from Sol beach house our favourite place to chill out.The hotel remains spotlessly clean with lovely helpful staff and a varied selection of food on offer but the changes to the dining room we did not like at all . This is a 4star hotel dining room not a tapas bar or a trendy wine bar .We don't want to eat dinner perched on a bar stool nor sit at a table made from reclaimed wood that I wouldn't use in my garden shed!! Most people visit as couples but there were very few tables for two and we certainly felt sorry for the staff who were short on numbers.Big mistake made here The old dining room was lovely and better staffed. Many guests who have been staying here for years were saying they would not be returning. I think they are trying to attract younger guests by being trendy but young people do not visit resorts like Santo Tomas. There is no nightlife at all for them Sorry Sol Melia you have lost some very loyal and regular guests because of this. We will return in September and hopefully the dining room will have improved by then with more tables for two and less sofas and bar stools. We still love the staff and the peacefulness.
Revisited after a three year break to find this hotel had been given a lovely restaurant/ outdoor living renovation. The hotel as the name rightfully suggests boasts a beach house theme. Over this winter period the main dining room and terraces have undergone a transformation. Infinity glass panels and open air dining perfectly capture the 180o view of the gardens ,swimming pool and sea. The dining room is a mixture of breakfast bar seating, casual tables and chairs and soft conservatory seating in calming mutted greens, blue and copper tones . Decking flooring and terraces lead to food areas that look like beach hut entrances. - now comes the criticism which we did relay whilst there. There are no provisions to have hot plates , food is served in tureens with lids. Unfortunately the fodd on many occasions has been luke warm so with a cold plate is not 4 star standards. There is a microwave on the service area so you can "ping" your meal but not ideal. Choices were not as good as we have experienced three years ago, so therefore our meals were a little hit and miss. We had to ask for certain items of food as they were not on display but were available, again the staff we're extremely accommodating for this. Sun beds as with any resort are an issue. Wooden steamers with plush mattresses flank the pool area whilst metal/plastic beds without mattresses are in the garden use, therefore this creates a rush to obtain the steamers which look more confortable. Overall the hotel is in a perfect position to gain access to the sea, the resort is quite in June , has two supermarkets and a couple of individual bar/ restaurants. The hotel is immaculately clean , staff extremely friendly and helpful, rooms spacious and adequately appointed. Free wifi, free safe deposit box and free beach towels all add as extras now. Can and would highly recommend this hotel . We are sure that the few issues we have addressed with our meals will be ironed out over this summer giving this hotel its worthy 4 star rating. Thank you Sol beach house for another great holiday and the sun ....perfect!
Quiet and relaxing hotel. Battle for wooden sunbeds and umbrellas in the morning, so we ended up paying 70 euros for 2 days to hire a Bahia bed. This hotel still has work to be done to bring it up to 4*. The location/view sells this hotel. Every member of staff are helpful. Modern seating of high seats, satees and tables serves as multi purpose lounge/ restaurant. Saying that we had a wonderful holiday.
Hotel room good and very clean. However the dining experience was not great due to lack of food choice and quality. For an adults only hotel, the modern style dining area with fast-food style seating does not work. A table for 2 is preferable for a romantic dinner for 2! Please remove the high chairs around large tables and the low level sofas! Finally, the age-old problem of sun-beds is present here, but exasperated there not being enough, and a large percentage of the garden area being closed due to re-seeding. Also, try cut the grass in the evening -less like to cause a riot than cutting it during the morning!!
Returned for 10 nights, after a 3 year gap. Having read other reviews, we were rather nervous about what to expect. We needn't have been. The dining room renovation is bright, modern, and in keeping with a hotel on the beach front. The hotel has capitalised on the wonderful sunsets that can been seen as you eat your evening meal. Accompanied by live music. Some people miss the linen table cloths and napkins, and were vocal about it. We prefer what they have done. The hotel are working hard to increase the number of sun umbrellas, and better manage bed blocking. It will be sorted I'm sure.
The appearance of this hotel is lovely. Very shabby chic. Having a little sitting room with our bedroom was quite novel. The bathrooms are very spacious with great walk in shower. The chairs and tables in the dining room were all shapes and sizes, which when you've got a disability, makes it a bit difficult to find an appropriate seat. They all look really good though.
OMG , where do I start with this review. Having visited the Sol hotel on numerous occasions over the last few years , we knew before we left the UK that there had been some refurbishment !!!!!!!!! Some refurb it is like a completely different hotel , a few of the reviews on here have been very negative , that I feel are just sour grapes. The new dining area is oooooh so lovely dining inside but outside, all the staff in this area cannot do enough for you this is down to the way it is run by Gabriel AND Sylvera . The new bar area is so amazing and talk about a chilling area well what more can you say, again the staff here are brill , that is Jose, Newelly Toni and the young lad with the beard LOL :) . All in all our stay at the Sol was fantastic , and cannot fault it what so ever thank you.
