2nd time back at this lovely, peaceful hotel with my chum. Slight delay this year waiting for coach transfer to move off, but the welcome smell at hotel put that behind us. Courteous check in, bags delivered to our clean, comfy room and we were down at the tranquil beach within the hour! Sun beds/umbrella expensive to hire daily but some shade if you want to sit under a tree. Nice beach bars, easy stroll to a few shops, bars and restaurants. But why leave the hotel when the breakfasts and dinners are amazing. So, so much choice and great quality. Prawns one night, steak the next. Diet before you go! Small gym on site - I hear it's been renovated! Nice pool but spent all our time at the beach. Will def return. If you want busy, lively then this isn't for you. Hotel did put entertainment on, but we were too busy eating later as main restaurant is hot earlier in the evening. Friendly staff who gave us sea view tables most nights. Bliss.
This is a very nice, comfortable, modern hotel with a commanding view over a stunningly beautiful bay. The rooms are not particularly spacious but have everything you need and are kept spotlessly clean. However, the main pool (located at the visually unlovely back of the hotel) is surprisingly small for a hotel of the size of this one and the infinity pool and sun lounging area at the front of the hotel (where you want to be as this is the side facing the beach) is adults only and access is only granted on payment of an exorbitant fee of 30 Euros per person per day. The decision to impose such a high fee on people who are already paying a significant amount to be residents in the hotel feels exploitative and unwelcoming.
Just returned from a week at the Melia Cala Galdana hotel in Menorca with my family (parents and three teenagers). The hotel was immaculate with a beautiful position on the sea front. We had three twin/double rooms on the third floor with side sea views. The rooms were clean and a good size. The hairdryer was brilliant - better than mine at home! The hotel reception is bright and airy with access to the pool which is a great size and has plenty of sunbeds available. We stayed in the main summer school holiday weeks and never had any trouble getting six beds around the pool. Beach access is at the bottom of the hotel. There is a VERY steep slope to get from the lower level to the promenade/beach but there are also steps leading from the Cape Neo restaurant. The main restaurant is open to the elements (no air con) but shaded by ceiling blinds. We had one uncomfortably hot evening when the temperature soared to 44 degrees so it was pretty bad everywhere. By the next evening the temperature had gone down to 32 and was much more manageable. The view from the restaurant is incredible and well worth a visit. The food was exceptional. We booked half board but had discussed amongst ourselves that we might eat out one or two nights. This didn't happen because the buffet food (breakfast and dinner) was amazing and we looked forward to dinner in the hotel each night. We were looked after in the restaurant by Mari who was lovely. She made sure we were happy, fed, and watered. The staff in all areas of the hotel were brilliant and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel as well as the resort. Although it's a quiet area, there are plenty of bars to visit (we loved Tabogen's with the giant floating tap! Great pizza for lunch). There are picturesque walks on either side of the bay to explore and lovely shops in the main town to buy the shoes that Menorca is famous for. 5 out of 5 - we will definitely be back.
This was our third stay at the hotel with our two teenage girls. Again we found the reception staff unfriendly and certainly not the welcome you need after a long journey! We were sent to our hotel room but this was already occupied by other guests! We were then sent to another room but this was not made up! The third room we were sent to was made up for young children as it had a cot in the 2nd bedroom instead of a bed! The receptionist offered no compensation such as lunch or even a bottle of wine but just simply apologised. We also found the customer service non existent in the Mosaic Restaurant - very unfriendly staff and we felt we were an inconvenience to them. The location of the hotel is superb with the beech right on the doorstep and a lovely view across the bay. We were impressed with the updated pool area and the new gym appeared popular. The Mosaic Restaurant was very hot until the sun went down - suggest eating after 9pm. The hotel entertainment in the Cape Nao Beech Bar was less than inspiring. Overall we felt the setting and location of the hotel was wonderful and is why we have returned. However Melia could really make the experience wonderful and memorable for the right reasons by having welcoming staff that were delighted to have you there.
Amazing view from the restaurant and rooms. Very kind staff. Excellent variety of food. 100% recommended. Quite convenient location to access the small town. Hotel staff very helpful in showing the options of things to do in menorca
We travelled with a two year old in the junior suite with level access. We were off to a bad start when our transfer to the hotel failed to show up and we were given a room on a low floor after asking for a high one. On the low floor you can hear the nightly music very cleary from 9pm to about 11pm which would be great except when trying to put a toddler to sleep. It turns out he loved it and we ended up listening on the balcony with a glass of champagne but it could have been disastrous. The level breakfast had good service and food and the service generally was good across the hotel. The kids pool lacks shade and the main pool was a little sad (we couldn't go to the level pool because it was adults only). We ended up eating outside of the hotel with some great restaurants within walking distance and there is also a kids waterslide in one of the nearby restaurants. The beach is beautiful and we had some especially enjoyable swims in the early evening when it was mostly empty. Overall I would recommend the hotel because it is in a great area and has some nice aspects but it's not one of those hotels which is a destination in itself.
We stayed at this lovely hotel last week. Adult family. The beach was just wonderful, with lots of bars and restaurants within walking distance. For the times we choose not to eat at the hotel. Breakfast was one of the best I have seen, so many choices. Staff were helpful and friendly, their English was good. Hotel clean and tidy. We would definitely return.
Stayed for 4 nights at this hotel at the "level". It was a fantastic experience. The attention to detail the care the staff took to ensure we enjoyed ourselves was phenomenal. The food in the main restaurant was ok but the al la carte restaurants was superb. The best part of the level was it gave you a defined and exclusive area with a plunge pool and sun beds. This was amazing. Special thanks to the caring attendant Josefina who did everything within her powers to make sure you were happy. Go to this hotel and stay at the Level.
Our family with a couple of friends stayed at Melia Cala Gadana for 7 days. It was our first time on Menorca and we like the area as well as the island a lot. Melia had nice, smart rooms, however small. The hotel is modern and has a good appearance but the establishment has clearly some challenges to live up to be the top hotel it claims to be, especially as it is rather expensive. We had half board which means buffet breakfast and buffet dinner. The first challenge is the attitude of the staff. There were no smiles and "welcome" when arriving and no "good buy, welcome back" when leaving. We had a price issue when we arrived and it was not handled very well and the staff was also irritated when asking about items on the final bill. They were not very helpful when you asked for assistance to find activities around the island, ie. horse-back-riding and kayaking with a guide. We had to find out ourselves. You expect something much better from a hotel of this class. The buffet restaurant, located on the top floor with an amazing view over the bay, was good and had new themes of food every day. However, again, the staff seemed to be very busy and drinking orders were not taken care of in a good way, often forgot what you had ordered and it took long time (that goes for all bars and restaurants). You had to find your table yourself and most of the time it was not cleaned up from the previous guests. You expect from a hotel of this standard to be led to a table that is cleared for a new setting. The overall impression we had is that the hotel is understaffed, they all worked hard but no smile to see! The free exercise program the hotel offered were very good and we used it a lot. The instructors are real professionals and you get tuff and healthy training from them . Finally, it was a disappointment that paying so much you had no access to the infinity pool, that belonged only to "The Level"-guests. That was not cleared when we booked the hotel. The disappointment became even bigger when the general pool area was located on the 8th floor behind the hotel with hardly no view over the bay. To take a swim in the sea you had to go through the reception, take the elevator down 8 floors and then get out thru the beach club restaurant down another path to reach the beach. The beach is nice, especially close to the hotel. You need to pay for matrasses and umbrellas but it's worth it. We would definitely like to come back to Melia, but next tie we hope the managemnet has cleared up some of the issues we had (about the same as I can see some other reviews also are indicating).
