Beautiful hotel! Everything in this hotel was spotless and the gardens beautifully kept. Our apartment was huge and well equipped. We selected the hotel because of the excellent kitchen facilities in the room which other hotels did not seem to other. We stayed with our son (16 months old) who was welcomed and made of fuss of by all staff at the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble! The hotel is in walking distance of the marina and two lovely beaches. We got the bus into the pretty Ciutadella twice as the bus stop was so near (outside the hotel) and the journey so easy. We would definitely recommend the hotel and would stay here again if we returned to Minorca.
Room 218, excellent, view out over gardens and swimming pool. They remembered that we had visited before (May2012) and we had a bottle of fizz, basket of fruit and small box of chocolates to welcome us to our room. Everything about this Hotel is great and considering that they would be closing for the winter in two weeks, the staff were still full of enthusiasm. Only complaint is that on final morning we were leaving early and had a cold plated breakfast, not up to much and no hot water for tea and the coffee had no hot milk to add
Initially selected having regard for advertised amenties (room, spa and pool) and nearby marina, climate and local sightseeing, whilst appreciating the tourist season was coming to a close. The hotel exceeded our expectations in all respects. The "room with a balcony" became a well appointed 1st floor suite with a kitchenette diner and lounge, bathroom and bedroom finished and maintained to a high standard. With both the bedroom and lounge having a balcony overlooking the pool area. The ethos and regimes of the hotel are geared to providing a wonderfull guest experience. We booked half-board as an insurance, as we both like good food and were unsure as to what local eateries might still be open this late in the season, only to find that the hotel quisine "Buffet style" was really very good with an excellent variety at all times. Not only were the attractive grounds and facilities scrupulously clean and well tended, the staff were very attentive and helpful. Extras, which were few, were also very reasonably priced, wih the possible exception of some of the spa treatments. The hotel's attention to detail was evidenced by their having prepared a very acceptable cold platter for our late arrival on our first night and the provision of a "bean to cup" espresso coffee machine and large selection of herbal and fruit teas for the breakfast buffet.
Returned two weeks ago from a week's holiday at this great hotel. From start to finish the staff could not have been more helpful or friendly. Exceptional staff. Scrupulously clean throughout the hotel. The apartments were cleaned to a very high standard every day. We had ground floor apartment's in the second block facing the gardens which didn't get any sun during day, so didn't get very hot, but any apartment would be fantastic. Always sun beds and umbrellas round the pool, and a life guard on duty. The pool was a tad cold, but we went in every day. The food was exceptional, we went half board and did not regret it. Not much entertainment at hotel so lovely and peaceful in evening. Short walk to harbour for nightlife and restaurants for those on B and B only. Only four minutes walk to the beach or harbour. About half hour walk to lighthouse. Lots of lovely walks around coast. Beautiful beach in the bay with warm sea. Nice beach bar and restaurant. Altogether a great hotel in a beautiful resort, we will go back again.
My hubby & myself stayed at macarella 2 weeks ago, I always read the reviews of where we are going to stay & was sceptical of other reviews, was it going to be as good as everyone said. Well I would have to say I have rated this hotel as 5 star because I think it really deserves it. This was our first time in Menorca so were absolutely delighted to say that this hotel & it's location are brilliant, all the staff from the cleaners to reception to waiters in dining room were mega friendly, I am a VERY hard to please holidaymaker but was delighted to find that this holiday far exceeded even my expectations. Big thank you to all the staff for their friendliness, we would not hesitate to return to the warmth of every single member of staff. This was our first time to stay in a thomson platinum hotel & it won't be our last. Our only sort of complaint was that we were in a room at back of hotel & there was no view.
Just returned from a week's holiday in Calanbosch and stayed here. Very very impressed with everything. The room was great. The breakfast was great. So much choice. All the staff were very professional, friendly and very polite. Pool area was spotless with plenty of sunbeds. Highly recommended. One little thing only. Our room was on the ground floor and the bathroom window was right next to the shower, it was frosted glass but I still felt a little exposed. Thankyou to everybody.
we have stayed at several hotels in Cala n Bosch over the past few years but this hotel is superior to all the others - staff, accommodation, food and facilities outstanding. Monika and Martina welcomed us with a big smile and we were given directions to our room which we found easily, upon entering the room we saw a bottle of water and a box of chocolates on the table the room was spotlessly clean as it was upon our return every day, we went to dinner and were shown to a table of our choice the staff in the dining room are courteous and the chefs are polite and cook your choice of meats to your liking the choice is first class and fresh, the bar staff are attentive and enjoy a laugh with you (Paco) the entertainment was excellent. The outside pool has plenty of sunbeds and the pool is great but one of my favorite area was the spa area sauna and steam room , my wife had a massage which she said was one of the best she had ever had, it was my birthday while we were there we returned to our room to find a bottle of Cava and a birthday card from the hotel which I thought was a nice gesture, we are already planning our return next September, thank you to everyone for making our holiday one to remember.
Not long returned from a 2 week stay at the Macarella Suites and Spa with my wife and sister. I had read many good reviews on this hotel, so we were all looking forward to our stay and we weren't disappointed. Our check in upon arrival was faultless and the blonde girl on reception (didn't catch her name) was very informative, helpful and did this all with a big smile. Our room, 237, was spacious and whilst it didn't have the greatest view (overlooking a empty field and over to the supermarket, we were still happy with the room. There was a box of chocolates on the table in our room as we arrived. We were on a bed and breakfast board and we could not fault the choice or quality of the food. There was both hot and cold food. I tried most foods on offer when I was there and all was delicious. All the staff at breakfast were extremely well mannered, always greeted us with a smile and nothing was too much trouble. There was always plenty of room around the pool, with good quality lounge beds and we were given fresh towels by the reception. The hotel is situated no more than 1 minute walk from both the beach and the harbour. It's location is perfect. My wife celebrated her Birthday while we were there and we arrived back in the room on the day to find a bottle of Cava and a Birthday card. How many other hotels go to this length and we hadn't even told any of the staff that my wife was celebrating whilst we were there. They must have noticed from her passport. I would recommend this hotel to families with children and couples. Thank you all at Hotel Macarella, we will return.
we have just returned from spending 2 weeks at this hotel on a bed and breakfast basis. We usually stay at a nearby hotel on full board but felt like a change, we were very pleased with this decision, mainly as it meant we could choose from the many restaurants that are around the marina for our evening meal. The hotel is very clean and tidy, the suites are excellent and have all that you need, they are very spacious and have a lovely terrace with table and chairs to sit out. The poolside is lovely with plenty of sun beds at any hour of the day. If I was to find anything to grumble about it would the prices of the ice creams at the poolside bar which were quite expensive also on arrival there was no one to help with the cases which we had to struggle down about 6 steps with. All in all we had a lovely time and would return to this hotel again. It is near to the beach and the shops and close to the marina.
We spent a weeks holiday at the Macarella Suites during August this year with our two children aged 10 and 4. We'd read so many fantastic reviews and were hoping that the hotel would live up to expectations...it really did! The hotel was spotless. Coming from someone who is obsessed with cleanliness, it's the first thing I look for in a review of a hotel. I had poured over all the reviews of the Macarella and they all talked of thoroughly cleaned rooms, spotless communal areas, disinfected sun-beds and parasols, clean restaurant/pool snack bar areas and I'm pleased to say this is exactly what we found. Our room, a one bedroom apartment with balcony, was cleaned to a very high standard every day and little touches like fresh flowers and chocolates on pillows, in the room were lovely. All the cleaning staff were lovely and very friendly. We requested (via email) a room over looking the gardens as we had read rooms in this area were quieter. We were granted this request and we did indeed find that we weren't disturbed by any noise at all. We stayed half board and were spoilt for choice with breakfast: cooked b fast, pastries, croissants, crepes, omelettes made to order, pancakes, a huge selection of fruit, yogurt. There was often something different each day from milkshakes or smoothies to Buck's Fizz. Dinner was the same: a huge variety of meat, fish and a vegetarian choice plus breads, olives and usually some kind of starter made up for you there and then. The puddings were amazing and we always finished our meal with cheese and crackers. There was always something different so you never had chance to get fed up of the same thing. There was also plenty of choice for kids. The restaurant was lovely and was run efficiently. There were no flies or bugs about at all and we dined al fresco almost every day. The pool area was lovely. V relaxing. No one reserving sun beds from 7am as we have experienced before, we were able to get one at any time of the day. The area around the pool and the pool itself was spotless. There is a designated children's pool and the main pool has a gradual slope into it so it was perfect for our 4 year old. The only slight downside was that the pool was a little cold. Lovely when you first got in as in August the weather was very hot but especially for children, once they'd been in for a while they did become quite chilly. There was also some swings and a slide just nearby that our kids made use of most days. The pool bar/cafe served lovely food for a light bite at lunchtime. Both the beach and Marina, with all its restaurants and cafes were just minutes away from the hotel and there was a supermarket right next door for bits and pieces. Cala'n Bosch is an absolutely beautiful area and we walked further along the coast via a little rocky path to another beach where there were little coves and it was safe to swim quite far out without getting too deep. We also hired a bike to go up to the lighthouse which is another beautiful area. The train that goes around the resort is a must, our kids loved it and it helps out get your bearings for the area. We must mention that the staff at the Macarella were absolutely fantastic. From our first email for our room request, to the goodbye the day we left, they made us and in particular our children feel really special, Tita, Victor, Sergio and a waitress whose name I didn't get (who taught our son a new Spanish word each day) were all fantastic. We booked our holiday through Thompson and the transfer time with them was around 1 hour 20/30mins. Our return journey wasn't v pleasant as the air con on the coach didn't seem to be working and we had to stop off at a lot of hotels. I would say that it was worth the long transfer though to be in such a gorgeous hotel and in a stunning area. We would highly recommend the Macarella and are considering returning here next year. We have never had such a relaxing holiday...so thank you for making it so special!
