I stay in a lot of hotels and have never been in a room with no toilet, no ventilation, no chair. It reminds me of a flop house in an old western. Has old charm in a great location however it is a rip off for what you get. Many other options in Mendocino.
Nice old hotel. Old, but not pretentiously so.
Beautiful location with gorgeous grounds. The garden building we stayed in had a comfortable bed and a real wood fire place with a private deck. The room was clean and inviting. We stayed here for the charm of an old building and it had that. The restaurant was closed and that was disappointing. The bar in the main building was like something from a movie set. Wood, brass, wallpaper and stained glass ceiling light. The Bar tender was friendly and knowledgeable. Front desk staff was welcoming and friendly as well. The only down side was the old building has poor insulation so you can hear the guests in the other rooms. We knew that staying here would be a different experience from a chain hotel and we enjoyed ourselves despite the occasional noise from other guests. The charm and quaint location was well worth it.
Location is the only good thing for this hotel. It is dirty and smelly. it has bed bugs. my son got some bits on his leg. No microwave, refrigerator for this price.
Beautiful historic hotel right on the waters edge. But those pilly blue wool blankets have to go.
Hotel has a great location. Bed was comfortable. Antique decor with a pull/knob or two missing. Very quiet. Would stay there again.
Mendocino Hotel's cottages in back are dog friendly, have a small living room and a fireplace. I would recommend them highly as I have stayed here for 30 years!
The bed sloped down towards the head. Shower door didn't close easily.
Great location, cool lobby, nice restaurant; The bathrooms, ok. Thin walls, noisy. Rooms are small so picture's not accurate (shows the bigger rooms not the one actually assigned)
I cannot recommend this place unless you are looking for a party place. The hotel is overpriced for rooms with shared bathrooms. Depending upon the room, beds can be newish to well-worn. Room 20 on the second floor and all the other rooms along the east wall face a loud, raucous crowd from the bar next door. The heavy bass music and drums vibrates the walls. If the hotel management says it only gets loud on weekends, do not believe them. The intensity can be felt and heard on the west side, but it’s possible to sleep. At midnight when a different room was requested, the management apologized by saying “Sorry for the inconvenience. “ No compensation was received. Please note that there are tables in the lobby that can be used by the hotel guests until 4:30pm. After that time, the tables can only be used by paid patrons. All in all, this is an uncomfortable hotel that focuses on how to nickel and dime the guests
If you don't mind sharing bathroom/shower (very inconvenient at night) and you don't mind the old European style rooms; enjoy. If you like the good-old American comfort, this is not the hotel for you!
There are several different buildings spread over a short couple of blocks that contain rooms. The main hotel has fantastic woodwork and the dinner we had there was excellent. The waiter was exceptional in being personable and guiding us to great choices. Our room was in an old home built in 1878 I think it said. So the bath fixtures needed some new handles and some wear elsewhere due to age. However, our room had 2 beds, very large with sitting area, a vanity room and then a small bath. The fire place wasn't working but we really would not of used it. Nice old Victorian decor and just a cool place to stay in easy walking of everything.
For a last minute getaway in the heart of everything in town-it was perfect
Lovely site overlooking beautiful bay. Prices vary from basic rooms in main building to full garden suites. Would definitely return.
Excellent location with an amazing view, walking distance to lots of businesses in Mendocino. Very nicely restored historic hotel.
My daughter and I went for a quick two night getaway in Mendocino and we stayed at the Mendocino Hotel. It is a restored Victorian-era hotel, built in 1870, with period furnishings and decorations, including the unique wallpapers and fixtures. There is a Bistro and lounge with a fireplace on the main level. The Bistro has a full bar and menu. The bar itself is restored and is accented by a lovely period Tiffany fixture above. Adjacent to the Bistro is an Atrium with a small cafe.In the rear is the hotel desk that resembles a classic "bank teller" accent. Upstairs are two floors of hotel rooms. There is no elevator. The first floor rooms connect to a wrap-around deck that leads out to the front for views of the ocean. There are common bathroom / showers separate from the rooms. Some rooms have their own bathroom. The room we had was tiny, just large enough for a twin bed and a small closet. There is a washbasin and medicine cabinet for personal items.

Beautiful historic hotel right on the waters edge. But those pilly blue wool blankets have to go.
Thanks for your suggestion. We are looking into another type of blanket that would withstand the constant laundering during the pandemic.
Thank you come see us again!

We are sorry that you did not like the European style room (Economy). All of our other room styles do have a private bath. Our suggestion is that you book direct with the hotel or give them a call to verify your room style. Guests that book into the European room style might want to upgrade to a room more suiting their needs.
