Cleared customs after a long haul and grabbed a taxi at 10.30 am to the hotel expecting a long wait until check in. "We have a suite available now Sir. Please accept it with our compliments" I could have kissed them! The service from this hotel is exemplorary. Refined, polite and outstanding in every aspect. Just so hard to fault! It remains our favourite destination in Melbourne. Superbly located in the leafy end of Collins St and so handy to all that the CBD has to offer. Our suite was wonderful. Ridiculously spacious, spotlessly clean and views to die for. The fittings are starting to show their age just a little but that is a minor criticism. The bedding is superbly comfortable and the decor is conservatively elegant. Hotel facilities are excellent, service is outstanding. It really is a fine 5 star hotel and one we prefer to stay with. Highly recommended.
Located in the ‘Paris end’ of Collins Street, the hotel is within walking distance to the CBD, Gardens and major tourist attractions around Melbourne. Staff are welcoming, friendly and efficient. The rooms are spacious, clean and well equiped offering breathtaking views of Melbourne. The 35th floor offers an excellent restaurant and lounge bar for relaxing and enjoying a quiet drink. For men, a visit to the bathroom on the 35th floor is also an experience not to be missed. Ideally suited for both business and leisure. Highly recommended for a pleasant and memorable visit to Melbourne. The Sofitel on Collins has maintained its exceptional high standards over the years and I have no hesitation to recommend this hotel to fellow travellers.
Beautiful setting overlooking the city and beyond from a twin room on the 43rd floor Décor in the room a little tired with scratched furniture - expecting an "upgrade" to be a little more larger in size - not just the views Breakfast arrival was met with a line of 20 people and when received by the staff - was told to wait (for another staff member) delighted to be taken into the Club Sofitel as a means of managing the overflow of people - appreciated
I choose the Sofitel due to its location and 5 star service. The weekend trip away to Melbourne was a birthday gift for my 13year old son. Upon arrival the hotel greeted us both warmly and wished my son a happy birthday. Upon arrival at Club Sofitel he was given a plate of hand make chocolates and deserts which made him feel very special. When we checked into our room there were more gifts for him a card and another beautiful plate of sweets. The Sofitel truly went out of their way to make my new teenager feel special. I paid for an upgrade and ended up in one of the corner suites which he also thought was pretty amazing. Thanks to the Sofitel for helping me make our weekend even more special for my son.
Service: Car doors were opened upon arrival, luggage attended to, checkin efficient with friendly staff (room upgraded without asking), room service punctual, concierge enthusiastic to help. Room: super comfortable bed and bedding, extra luxurious pillows, love the beautiful timber shutters on the windows, fantastic city views (day or evening), generously proportioned room size Perfect location and easy walk to restaurants, shopping, the riverfront, Arts Centre and museums.
The Sofitel was great as usual but there are a few matters that need attention at a 5 star hotel. The internet connection at the hotel was poor once again. Also the access on line was poor as I have free internet with my Platinum membership. Also the website for bookings is very difficult to use and very clumsy. Also i found it hard to use my points for part of the cost hence I was not able to use them. We also found the food in the Club Sofitel very unhealthy for people with diabetes and other health problems. Very little healthy food available at all.
I call myself a Sofitel fan with 60+ nights this year, but this Sofitel does not deliver the experience I want to have for 400 dollars per night (without breakfast)- instead the Grand Hyatt delivers it all (separate review) and just won over a new customer. Why wasn’t the Sofitel not able to convince me? 1. No spa facilities! Still wondering how a hotel can have 5 stars without spa facilities 2. Missing investments into the hotel: the hotel was a very beautiful one at one point I’m sure - 2017 it needs redoing to not miss the train to the modern time 3. Limited gym facilities: yes there is a gym but it could need some pimping 4. Lack of customer centric approach- one example: I actively approached the hotel to ask what kind of possibilities there are to stay until the end of the year before I got to Melbourne and the handling of this (or lack of it) was not in a way that I’m handing over that kind of money to them What’s great about the hotel is the view from the rooms and the restaurant.
What else can I say but boy oh boy woweeeee. Stayed at the Sofitel Melbourne grand final weekend and what an experience. Staff were v friendly, and the rooms even better. I was even lucky enough to get views of RMIT university which was impressive. Sofitel is the whole package like Jake 'the package' stringer. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
I really cannot fault anything about this hotel (well.. maybe the internet as it seems to sometimes have a bad habit of just falling off...but it isn't that big a deal). The Club lounge is excellent -- almost too good as you can spoil your appetite for dinner! There is an excellent selection of evening snacks and some nights you can literally turn them into dinner they are so substantial. Staff are polite and professional. My go-to hotel for Melbourne. Stayed here for 4 nights in October.
We were underwhelmed by our room in this hotel. Our arrival was amazing as the lobby and bar area is so beautifully appointed and has a lovely ambience. We enjoyed a snack and drink in the bar area which was very tasty. The room was clean but furniture is very dark and all looking a little old and tired. My sister and I had twin beds which were clean and comfortable. We had a room on a high floor with magnificent views which we loved! The bathroom was old, with a shower inside the bath. The shower screen door was broken and kept opening onto the toilet which meant water went everywhere while showering, and while using the toilet had to be held closed. A little maintenance goes a long way! In the morning we enjoyed the sumptuous buffet breakfast. Served in the restaurant on a high floor it also has amazing views and delicious food.
