Staff went out of there way to be helpful! Location was good - easy walk to museums, parks and surrounded by restaurants. Super close to a large grocery store, and easy free tram ride to DFO (huge number of some high end outlet stores with great prices, as well as free tram to route to the lovely Botanical Gardens. Highly recommend!

Good location in the very central of the city with very friendly staff.

We hadn't been to Melbourne for over 20 years and so decided to go to Les Miserables and make a weekend of it. I looked online for a hotel near the theatre that had good reviews and found Mantra on Russell. I could not have chosen a better place to stay. Fantastic location (we were able to walk everywhere), the room was very suitable with nice furniture and very clean, the staff were helpful and we were about a 5 minute walk from the theatre. A great weekend and we were able to get a very good feel for Melbourne - and lots of exercise!

Nestled in the heart of Melbourne's Chinatown, Mantra is perfect for those travellers who are looking for convenience, easy access, and accommodating staff. As a family of four, we had our own opinions of the hotel, but we all agreed on the following: 1) Mantra is PERFECT in location. We were able to accomplish our touristy duties in two day's time in our visits to the CBD, surrounding suburbs, and even via foot to St. Kilda and Fitzroy! Plus, it doesn't hurt to be so close to Chinatown for cheap late-night snacking! 2) The hotel staff, especially the front desk ladies, were very very friendly and super understanding with our large and heavy suitcases! They were always polite and were a great "introduction" to the friendliness of Melbourne 3) There are free mentos mints for hotel members at the front desk! Smelly breath, begone! 4) The two bedrooms in our family suite were absolutely SPACIOUS. As Americans, we do have the wish in the back of our minds that everywhere we stay will be large in size and with an open floor plan. So walking into our 2BR suite was comforting with the big bathrooms and bartop kitchen area for personal use We all recommend living at Mantra on Russell, for all of its factors contribute to a perfect four-star-hotel for all travellers whether you're a businessman or a family of ten!

Hotel rooms don't usually come this large in Melbourne - the hallway to the main bedroom and the bathroom off a walk-in wardrobe create even more space. Ask for a king room if booking a studio as they are much larger and better layout than the queen rooms. Think rooms ending in '05' are the pick of the bunch. All the amenities, while not luxurious, are very good. The pool is also a great size for swimming laps while trying to keep fit on a work trip.
