Great location, cheapest and best accomodation in town. Will be back on regularly. Loved ballsacks hospatality, his bed was very comfortable too. Would highly advise all travelers new to the city to book in for a great time in Melbourne.

Excellent hostel, fun to be had everynight. Food amazing and reasonably priced. Staff were friendly and welcoming, especially Sophie, Harriet and Stuart on reception. Highly recommend staying here, it will change your life forever.

You know when you walk into a place and it feels like home... well for me this was Base St Kilda. The people, the atmosphere, and the restaurant are all 10/10. It's right around the corner from everything you could possibly need, including penguins. Highly recommended! Thanks base for the epic stay.

I love base! Everyone is so lovely, especially Harriet she is fantastic on the front desk, always happy to help and go above and beyond for the guests! The bar is always jamming! Bingo is the best got no prob here! The food is insanely good, definitely try the pulled pork nachos! Cannot wait to stay again! xoxo

Friendly staff, clean rooms and great location! First, staff are fantastic! Harriet on reception sorted everything for me so quickly and we had a good chat too. Everyone in the hostel and the bar seems to have such a good time at work. Second, the rooms are really clean. They get cleaned every day by a few different people and you can tell its been kept well. Finally, its located right in the centre of St Kilda, next to the tram, bars, restaurants and best of all the beach! It also has a hostel bar "Red Eye" which has great games at night to help you meet other guests. Overall, I've had a great stay here and would come back any day!

recently stayed here for just over 2 months and had a good time, the staff are all great especially on the bar and reception. shout out to harley for always being helpful and amazing. slight issue with the kitchen forever being a mess but i guess thats hostel life

I stayed at Base my last few nights in Melbourne because of the convenience of the Skybus, it's also a great place to meet a lot of people and I even came here when I wasn't staying for the nights they put on in the main room! Boozy bingo is mint!!! One area of improvement could be the toilet roll.. it's very thin

Any solo travellers looking to meet people and have a great time NEED to stay at xBase. The guys behind the bar are beautiful and always welcoming, even at 3pm when you're just getting in from the night before. I'd like to cuddle and thank everyone, in particular Harriet who always greeted me with a beautiful smile when I crawled (hungover) out the door. Cheers everybody!! ♡

I know backpackers are not for families, but we have stayed at other backpackers before on road trips without any incidents. This time was a bit confronting. From the reception I had the impression that I was stepping into a dance club more than accomodation place they suggested that my 10 year old son would not be allowed for the night. So I thought, right! That's simple, I just leave it outside in the freezing cold while I have a pleasant night and I come out early to see how was his night! For someone with a child to hear that in the night time not knowing the city is scary. But, quickly they decided that we could stay if I promise not to take my little one into the bar. I then explained that I was not planning to go party hard with my son and they decided that we were finally allowed! Great! :) Early in the morning I had to visit the reception again so the front door neightbours turn the music a little down and let us sleep, and the issue was promptly addressed and we could finally rest properly, and had a good night. My son suggested they could be more family friendly and I completely agree. Other than that it was a good experience.

Rocked up here to be greeted by a couple of legends Sophie and Denver .. They made me feel really welcome and told me all about the place and activity's .. Its got such a good vibe and if your looking to meet people and have fun this is the place .. Its not far from the city and there is plenty to do close by .. Check it out
