Very unique property in the former hunting palace. If you're a 5-star snob, this hotel is not for you. But if you like charm and uniqueness then this is definitely worth it! the food (and wine!!!) definitely worth it too! Totally did NOT experience the negative experience some others have noted. May be also the level of expectation.
All rooms is outdated! This hotel can be the best in a world! But owner do nothing to be the 5 stars hotel even!
This is an amazing place to stay. The rooms are a little worn but seemed clean. The palace is amazing and the ancient walled forest that surrounds it is magical. Stay here, but don't expect the rooms to feel like luxury. Spend your time exploring the forest and the grounds. I would absolutely stay here again.
Hotel was filled with displaced royalty and spies during WW II. Carved stone and tile murals. No AC. Beautiful national forest location and formal gardens. Elegant dining room with great dinner and breakfast.
I loved this experience. We got a great room overlooking the hills. The art work in every inch of this building was incredible. Noticed the walls had some water damage in the room where our dinner was. I thought it felt charming and authentic. Getting a drink was a challenge at times but the bar tender was a fantastic photographer so he made up for it. I recommend this experience.
A refreshing location high up in the hills about a 45min drive from Coimbra. Despite having had to wait for our rooms we were well looked after by the genial bar staff. A place to experience the feeling of tranquility and good service. A walk up to the top of the nearby hill is must the amazing number of superbly made terracotta figures housed in the small houses beside the cobblestone walkway make it a spiritual experience indeed. Loved to have stayed longer. Graham Heslop
By all means stay here. How often can you stay in a gorgeous old palace, food was terrific, staff very attentive and kind, forest is beautiful and serene.
Gorgeous palace (outdated rooms & amenities) beautiful gardens and surrounding forest, overall excellent 1 night stop
