We stayed 4 days before schools started. The kids loved it. 10/10 for the falconry, the fishing and the pool facility. We loved the bar food and afternoon is a must. Thinking it might become an annual ritual :)
We really enjoyed our stay at Mount Falcon Estate. We used this as our base to play Enniscrone, a top notch links golf course, and Carne Golf Course (Belmullet). We enjoyed our first Falconry experience, and happened to be there when they were filming an updated wedding brochure and got some great shots of a barn owl as well. The food was exceptional, the bar was lively, and we enjoyed the old world charm. We also travelled to Belleek Castle, Belleek House, Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland for a very enjoyable dinner. A local also recommended that we take a trip to the town of Westport, about 45 minutes southwest of Mount Falcon Estate where we stopped in at the famous Matt Molloy's where they play lively traditional Irish Music seven days a week. A thoroughly enjoyable experience in a quaint charming Estate.
We stayed in castle hotels for the rest of our trip, but the Mount Falcon Estate was our favorite place to stay in Ireland for many reasons. We were traveling with our 7, 9, and 11 year old daughters and they absolutely loved doing archery, the hawk walk, and swimming in the pool. We also enjoyed tea in the afternoons, and the food in the restaurants is outstanding. They easily accommodated our dietary restrictions (one daughter has Celiac, another is allergic to tree nuts). The owners want guests to feel like they are at home (the pub is available 24 hrs a day) and I think they achieved their goal. We will absolutely visit again!
The positives about Mount Falcon are the staff particularly Ciaran in the bar, the food and the Estate itself. The negative is that there is not sufficient capacity to service the demand for "bar " food" as there are only 5 tables in the bar and food service ceases at 7.30pm and when the bar is full, guests are directed to the morning room or the lounge but these rooms are not fitted out to eat a meal , e.g, the lounge chairs are too low.
Stayed in the country house hotel which is beautifully restored. The main quarters are spacious and well-appointed with beautiful furnishings (many antiques). The staff were very warm and welcoming, my room and bathroom were spacious, and had an excellent food experience (dinner and breakfast). I was there on business and just overnight, but would like to return to stay longer and enjoy all of the amenities and activities on the estate and in surrounding area. Had a corporate rate and was there during low season - my rate was ver reasonable considering the beautiful accommodations.
We travelled from Dublin to attend a wedding recently. On arrival at 11.45am, we were told that our room wasn't ready. We accepted this. However what we found totally unacceptable was the fact that they would not serve us tea and sandwiches/ scone until 12.30. We had to visit Foxford Woolen Mills to avail of soup and sandwich. It is a very nice wedding venue with good quality food and service. Rooms are also very comfortable. It struck us that the staff were totally focussed on the wedding reception and had no time for anything that detracted from that. This is a 4 star rated hotel. The management need to realise that they are in the hospitality business, where customers needs should be of utmost importance.
Regular patron, great place to get away from it all, attended a family wedding recently, booked two rooms, family of the bride told me about a special price for staying two nights. Booked two nights, no discount given, reason, full house so no need to offer the discount, full price paid. Definitely reconsidering our loyalty to this establishment, regular clientele obviously not encouraged. Will look elsewhere next time in the west. Plus, food not hot for dinner or breakfast. Pity!
Attended a wedding, had a lovely time, room was great, hotel and food was really nice. Discovered at check out that they added a mystery 5% service charge to my bill, real celtic tiger stuff, completely unnecessary, should have been advised at check in. Had charged a number of things to my room, did not appreciate paying 5% on a tip I'd paid to bar staff. I would have easily paid by cash or card in the bar at time of purchase had I known. I'm sure this 5% was mentioned in the small print but I felt it was a sneaky thing to do.
Old world charm presented in a modern way. Afternoon tea was a real treat. Property and location helps you to unwind and relax. The room and ensuite were large and luxurious. Great bathrobes and towels.
Nestled next to the River Boy, and located close to the stunning Wild Atlantic Way, Mount Falcon is that rare countryside escape that offers calm, rejuvenation and proximity to a wealth of exemplary outdoor activities. Easily accessible to three of Ireland's most challenging golf courses, an inviting woolen mill, shopping in a quaint countryside town, and numerous venues for salmon fishing, Mount Falcon certainly offers a bounty of appealing pastimes, including archery, Falconry and biking. But if one's notion of a vacation is spa treatments, walks through verdant gardens, amid refreshing woodlands, and luxuriating in an intimate bar, simply get ready to pamper oneself in the nooks and crannies of this elegant, Old World styled--and award winning--manor house. The wooden floors and the beautiful antique furniture combined with impeccable personalized service make this Estate a trip into a sphere where the real world can easily be forgotten. For the Falcon is more than a romantic hideaway. It allows the imagination to soar.
