Stayed at the Downhill Inn recently. Staff and owners very pleasant and welcoming. The room and bathroom were clean and a very comfortable bed. Only slight criticism the TV was very small and a couple of hooks in the bathroom would have been handy. Breakfasts were very good and nice hot tea. We ate in twice and again good choice of evening meals. It's only a short walk into Ballina town so great location. All in all great value for money.
two of us turned up here on our motorcycles one wet evening. The staff in the hotel were very welcoming and helpful. Large tarmac car park so good for the bikes. Rooms large, clean and comfortable with fresh milk for the tea makings. Bathroom clean and tidy. We went to the hotel bar and restaurant for a couple of drinks and a meal. Pleasantly surprised by the menu, not a vast menu but with enough choice but reasonably priced and the food quality was very good. In the morning we had the excellent full Irish breakfast. All in all we thought this a great hotel with good food and rooms with great staff. I would stay there again.
Great clean comfortable hotel food was excellent served by very efficient and friendly staff. The rooms were large with plenty wardrobe and drawer space .staff were friendly and helpful and the nightly entertainment was very good
Stayed here for the ballina salmon festival for one night with friends. Nice clean basic room. Good value for money. Friendly staff. The room was quiet small but fine for what we wanted. The decor we found to be quiet dated but again didn't bother us as it was just a flying visit. All in all we were happy with our stay in the downhill inn hotel.
Ok hotel, clean rooms, and linens, about a 20min walk from town, wanted a local bnb, but we arrived late on a July evening we only needed 8hrs, best part of the stay was the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs included in the breakfast! The continental buffet needs some additions, recommend removing the old canned 'fresh' fruit salad and old sliced bred! Stick with the excellent wheaten (brownbread) goes excellent with the salmon!
rooms were adequate bathroom was a bit dilapidated afraid to open window in case it landed on lawn outside, restaurant was nothing out of the ordinary food was edible but it would not get any Michelin stars. As a former chef I think I can spot sausages that have been fried in a chip pan notably even brown all over bacon undercooked .I travel with a group of friends we have done so for a decade and it always has been on coach trips this is the first time that I have felt the need to actually put a review on trip advisor .I know we do not use the euro but there was no way the bar prices done the hotel any justice,7 euros for a morgan spiced rum & coke yet for a morgans on its own 7euros.I look forward to seeing this on trip advisor as I checked on trip advisor before we went on holiday and the owner cannot take constructive criticism but I 8 friends who will back me on this
stayed hear on the 17/6/17 worst hotel ive ever stayed in. horrible smell in our room and also we had a mouse staying in our room with us. I went down to the night porter and he was no help. When i was checking out I told management and she just tanked me????? no held whats so ever. I wouldn't stay again even if it was free.
Modern basic hotel on the outskirts of town, reasonably clean and tidy, with competitive room rates. Staff were friendly and courteous, and breakfast was fine. I'd be happy to recommend this place for the B&B. However, dinner was disappointing. We suspected that the chicken in the chicken fajitas was probably euthanised because of geriatric osteoarthitis, as the meat was unusually tough. The guacamole was rancid, although apparently the carton was still in date (according to the server). We suspect that it had not been stored correctly. The sour cream (for which we had to ask, even though advertised as part of the dish on the menu) was whipped cream with added lemon juice. A 20% discount was offered and we haggled successfully for a bit more. Advice for prospective diners: do not eat here. Advice for the management: fire your chef.
This was our fifth visit to The Downhill Inn and as usual we had first class service. John and Nicola run this lovely hotel beautifully with the help of their great staff. Amazing food as usual as well as comfy and clean beds make it a fantastic start to our tour around Ireland. We will definitely be back next year for visit number 6! Would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a relaxing stay just outside of the town centre.
Great location on the Sligo Road leaving Ballina. Excellent Irish breakfast and a la carte dinners available. features music on the weekends in their pub attached to dining room. The rooms were clean well kept and a good value. We really enjoyed our 6 nights and look forward to our next visit.
