Firstly, I love this hotel in terms of location and the old house and grounds are just gorgeous, especially in late autumn as the colours of the trees are beautiful. But this is the second time I have stayed here where I feel compelled to write a review about the service. This is probably my last visit. Pretty much all of the issues are down to staff training. They haven’t hired bad people. Almost everyone was polite and had good intentions but the staff are overstretched and it is clear that there is zero management cover to check that things are running properly. Ok, here’s the list of things that are unnecessarily bad. You just expect better from a hotel like this.... 1) Freezing swimming pool. We complained in the reception at the pool. They said they don’t “take” complaints at the spa reception and sent us to the main reception to complain. Joke. Day 2....pool still freezing. 2) Jacuzzi out of order. 2 days in a row with no sign of anyone worried about that. 3) Dinner in the restaurant. We were asked if we wanted still or sparkling water in an empty restaurant by 3 separate waitresses. Nobody asked us if we wanted anything else, like a GnT for example. Basic training issue. 4) Breakfast - pre made granola with fruit. Soggy as hell. Hands up who likes soggy granola? Otherwise the breakfast was pretty good but again the staff seemed overstretched. 5) Lounge staff - you could turn into a skeletal remains before they would ask you if you needed anything. They are wandering around picking up glasses but it seems that their biggest fear would be to ask a customer if they were ok.This could result in the customer wanting something which would be an inconvenience. Again, it’s what happens when you let young staff go unsupervised. I don’t blame the staff. It is clearly a management issue. Recommendation: Have a duty manager patrolling the bars and lounges and a restaurant manager who is actually running the team in the restaurant. The food in general was good. No complaints there. The hotel has also been renovated in the modern wing and it’s a pretty good job. This hotel deserves better on the service front. The history and grandeur of the place should not be let down by sloppiness.
We booked for a Halloween break. The hotel is beautiful, this was our 2nd visit. The new rooms look fantastic. However a few issues..we arrived arround 3pm and our Autistic son was delighted to hear pumpkin carving, cup cake decorating and movies had started and would be on until 6..we quickly left our bags in the beautiful room..went to find pumpkin carving at 3.30, the room was empty..pumpkins and cupcakes had finished he was very sad. We went to the pool and it was nice but no robes or slippers provided as would have been handy to return to the room to relax. The next day we passed the houskeeping lady leaving our room at 10.30am..we returned at 4.45 and the room had not been cleaned. Id accidently forgot to take the do not disturb sign off, my fault , so on our way to reception I met housekeeping an apologised for leaving the card on the door and asked could she tidy up plz. We dropped by reception to explain and then had to pay 11euro for two hot choc. I returned to the room at 5.40..still not made up with a note slipped under the door to say house keeping had gone home, I went back to reception..we had dinner booked in Kildare so decided to just go on..we got stuck in traffic and missed our reservation..ended up back in the room and just had to order pizza..the menu selection for room service or the restaurant was very overly priced. Yes its a stunning hotel, we rarely get weekends away and this was for our anniversary..just a bit let down at the service..not sure if we would return.I went to see some of the rooms advertised on the web site..both were locked..the girl did offer to get a key but I declined.
What a beautiful experience from start to finish our stay here was perfect. We went for a Spa Treatment special and stayed overnight in the Hotel. I couldn't complement the Staff everywhere in this place all so friendly and couldn't do enough for us to make our stay memorable. The food was perfect we had an evening meal in the Carriage House both had Steak 25.00 but worth every penny nothing was left. I would advise for you to book a table for here. Also had lunch in the Bristana Bar Cheese board is to die for at 8.50 more than plenty for 2 in it. Also their soup is a meal in itself. We had the pleasure of being in one of there newly decorated rooms and were not disappointed at all. Also on day of checkout you can use the facilities which is a great so no need to rush home. There would be only one complaint and that was no residence bar on a Tuesday night so all closed at 12.00 that was a bit disappointing but would still return to this little Gem. Well done again to all the Staff without you there is no good Business. Forgot to mention the Breakfast a very good choice something for everyone only thing I thought Sausages/Rashers were very salty but all in all good.
Stayed here during the October bank holiday weekend. Second time coming here and enjoyed it as much as the last time. Check in easy fast and efficient. We were given a complimentary room upgrade and it didn’t disappoint. Large bed, separate sitting room, walk in wardrobe and a nice airy bathroom. The bedroom was spotlessly clean. The chocolates were a nice touch. We used the coffee machine both mornings and it worked a treat. Whilst we didn’t eat in the hotel this time, there are great options in maynooth just 5 minutes drive away. We did however have some drinks in the bar both nights and drinks were on the pricey side but no more than other hotels. We did use the leisure facilities and they were definitely in keeping with the standard of the hotel itself. It was so peaceful in the hotel even though there was a wedding one night and plenty of families staying there over the course of the weekend. We really felt we got great value for money and we were so relaxed by the time it came to check out and we were reluctant to leave. Check out was fast and no queries or mistakes on the bill with complimentary bottles of water for the journey home. We will definitely be back again.
We did a mini retreat day in the spa to include the use of the facilities here. The hot tub wasn't hot, the steam room didn't steam and the pool was full of children, not what we were expecting at all. When we went to the relaxation room to escape the very noisy pool area, there was a group of 7 or 8 women talking and laughing very loudly in there, so much for a relaxing afternoon! The treatment was fine though the therapist never stopped talking. I was glad to get home for a bit of relaxation and quiet, should have stayed at home and saved my money😏😏
Regular at the Carraige House in Carton, parents are members of the club and I live locally. Came to watch the 1/4 final RWC, no sound on the TV for the first half, had to ask staff 3 times for a reason why. Bizarrely slow to serve, we received 3 breakfasts with no egg so back to the kitchen with them and when they came back out with my own breakfast being an omelette, it was dry and was nestled beside 4 white slices of white toast when I had informed the server that I was a coeliac :( I don't like to give bad reviews bit know I from previous experience that bar staff here are terribly slow to serve and this morning finally pushed me to do the review The interior and settings are beautiful and I always wish the best but I continue to be let down :(
Very well located and great for outdoor activities! Surrounded by nature and Golf! SPA is a plus. Service is good and staff is super friendly and focused on customer service (at all times). Food is good and can choose between two options ( restaurants). Indoor pool was the only thing that look much better on the photos and could be a better space. Facilities are great although could use better internal sinalétics ( struggled to find the spa and the pool from within the facilities, easier to go outside and come back in )
We had food on Sunday afternoon in the foyer area and we got excellent friendly and efficient service from Aneta. She served us on a previous occasion and was very friendly and efficient then too. I was a non-resident having lunch. I will definitely keep returning to Carton House for lunch. The chowder and the cheese board are excellent quality. So the combination of excellent quality food and excellent friendly service from Aneta is unbeatable.
Stunning place. Great food. I did clay pigeon shooting, zip line, axe throwing and fire lighting with Orangeworks and Bear Grylls academy it was fantastic I really enjoyed it. The place is enormous and very clean. I can highly recommend a visit
Carton House really is a stunning hotel.the rooms are so nice and comfy, you really dont want to check out. Food in the bar the is lovely and you can relax in the lobby after. Staff are always polite and know what the customer wants The estate itself is tranquil and perfect for a long walk. 5 out 5 from me.🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅
