This hotel does not look anything like the pictures. Its small with nothing going on at all. We had a damp room with mold all over the ceiling. This then started to spread to our clothes. We asked to move room but was told the hotel was full. The food was freezing cold!! We complained on our second day to be told "sorry to chefs forgot to turn on the hot plates" the variety of food was terrible. If you want to eat rice, curry and veg for breakfast lunch and dinner then you will love this hotel. They dont serve chips or anything unless you ask for them but be prepared for a half an hour wait. The beach is as big as your back garden, if you want a sun bed on the beach you need to get up early. Only good thing about this hotel is the entertainment staff and bar staff!! very friendly and happy to help out where ever they can
We were 3 families at the hotel. The positive things- the team is very kind and generous and tries its best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Good location at the grand baie.nice pool. Unfortunately, the rooms are very small and not the cleanest. There us no room service at the hotel. The cleaners were not professional and did the minimum needed, breakfast is poor, too many mosquitos in the rooms, price was expensive to What We got....
Returned from a fantastic 2 week stay with wife and "20 something" son and daughter. Fantastic position for both a pool and beach experience. Hotel was apparently full, but with only 90 rooms did not feel crowded. Always plenty of choice of sunbeds, restaurant and bar were busy enough to give a great atmosphere, but not too crowded that you could not find anywhere to sit. Food excellent and varied with some great local influences. Staff were fantastic, especially Parwan, Brian and Amit in the bar. Staff in the bar were also excellent, always smiling and friendly during long shifts! It was my 60th birthday when we were there, we had Lobster on the beach, and staff made sure it was a special occasion. Some free water sports, and a had great value day out on a Catamaran trip to deserted islands surrounded by amazing coral reefs for snorkelling. Threatened by Cyclone Buergitta, was not as severe as originally thought, but affected by rain and very strong winds for a couple of days. Staff kept us regularly informed of the Cyclones progress, and made sure that safety was paramount. All in all a fantastic experience, thank you Veranda Grand Baie
I've been to mauritius on many occasions and this hotel was slightly below expectation. Service and location was excellent but the entire hotel is little outdated and stuck in the 80s. Pricey for what I call a 3 star hotel. Dinner at the hotel for 1 was 1200 rupees.. even if one takes a taxi to the a restaurant it would be cheaper. The pool area is the best with constant activities and a view to die. Overall I enjoyed my stay.
loved the location. only 1 thing....tea/coffee is charged for in the room. :-( paddleboats and other water activities only offered at certain times. we could only use the paddleboats from 12h30 and its extremely hot! safety in the water is of an issue because they dont provide you with life jackets. staff were superb and very helpful and friendly! will definitely return..
Veranda is a small and understated hotel with kind and efficient staff. We like Veranda because we enjoy a relaxing and restful break. We have stayed at this hotel before and have always found the team welcoming and friendly. This time the team were proved to be even better when a cyclone was expected; they were professional and calm. We will certainly return.
We stayed at the Veranda for 10 nights half board. We had an upstairs double room with a big balcony looking into the lush gardens. The room was small but fine for our needs. A useful fridge, kettle and good bathroom. The restaurant was excellent with lots of choice. The Mauritian curry's were our favourite. Tropical fruit an egg station and fresh croissants were brilliant at breakfast. Lovely staff throughout the hotel, especially house keeping. The beach was ideal for a dip with enough beach beds. A good pool but a few too many locals were using it made it a bit noisy. I enjoyed the aqua classes which were well run. The only criticism was the music played in the bar/restaurant which only pleased the dj. Drum and base etc was not enjoyed by any guests I saw. The location was the best, being close enough to Grand Baie but far enough to be tranquil A great little hotel. Shame about the weather but that's the tropics. A cyclone and a lot of rain, but we still have healthy tans.
Positives: - nice and silent location, - nice pool, - helpful staff - free some water-sport equipment (like wind surfing, etc) Negatives: - toilets needs more cleaning, urine smells what is normally not nice (sometimes it was better serviced) - you must pay extra 1EU / 1 tee bag when in B&B plan, must pay for billiards, etc - expensive restaurant (maybe Mauritius is expensive place..),at lest for me, this hotel is very expensive as for 3-star (again, maybe it is Mauritius specialty...) - just very, very basic breakfast. - they tried to overcharge us during checkout with services we didn't use (for about 25EU), I asked the lady for all my signed checks and it was obvious, that 2 services were added extra. What's more interesting she was a little angry I asked for my singes (what normally is automatically available in other hotels) and even she was not sorry for this situation. So, maybe it was not just an accounting mistake, maybe a routine procedure here, so please, be aware during checkout to verify every single drink and food you order. It was very simple for me, since I didn't order any drinks but if I did so, maybe I wouldn't notice this.
We decided to take a day stay at Grand Baie with plans to go to Banana beach club night bar and also to experience North Mauritius. We had booked 'The Comfort Room' at Veranda. Ee were taken to a room which was located in the backyard of the hotel which seemed like abandoned and outdated. Bed and Bathroom was really comfortable. But AC gave a bad sleep in the night since its placed in one corner of the room and since it wasnt swinging, the person sleeping away from AC doesnt get the cool feeling and pretty much feels breathless. Restaurant ambience is good and pool is very nice. Staff is friendly and makes sure guests are given good attention. Chef Mahesh and another staff(Didnt check his name) at Restaurant were bery kind enough to make sure we get vegetarian food for us. Comfort Room seems ignored sinxe the coffee table in the balcony seemed cheap and damaged. Theu had just covered it up with cloth to hide the damage. But when our coffee cup didnt sit on the table is when we realised its true state. Overall very average room. My suggested is nobody is rejecting to pay up the price qupted. For whatever room we pay we expect a decent and respectable facility. Could be mkre thoughtful and empathetic about guests staying in comfort room
My partner and I stayed here over Christmas 2017 and we can honestly say this is the best hot holiday we've ever had! The hotel itself is a boutique style and quite small - We liked this as it felt more intimate and not like these huge all inclusive resorts! If you stay in Grand Baie please don't expect a huge expanse of white sand beaches where you can walk for miles, this area has some lovely little coves with beaches - they are stunning dont get me wrong however the location is not isolated it is near amenities so this is the compromise. POOL - Great pool, plenty of sunloungers and didn't have to get up early to reserve. BEACH - Lovely beach, not space to sunbathe but there are loungers in an elevated position overlooking the beach and Bay, the hotel offers free snorkeling, paddle boards, pedeloes and a glass bottom boat that must be booked and takes you to the reef for an hour. The rep at the boat house can sort out day trips on the catamaran and other excursions which are cheaper than booking with your rep or reception. FOOD - We went B&B and the breakfasts were great, lots of choice and all fresh BAR - We didn't use the bar as very expensive! £4.50 for 1/2 a pint! Which is crazy as the bars outside are much cheaper! ROOMS - Very comfy beds, we had a little kitchen in ours however they should put a curtain up at this window as it was very bright in the mornings (room 900) however having the kitchen was great. LOCATION - Less than 10 mins are loads of of restaurants and bars, money exchange etc. About a mile away (up the road, turn right and keep walking about a mile) you'll find THE BEST seafood restaurant - The Beach House, try to book as its real popular. The best Italian if you fancy it is just up the road from the hotel turn right and its on your left, cant pronounce the name but amazing, you wont miss it! OVERALL - Great hotel for the money, great location, clean, great friendly staff - would we return...in a heartbeat! Thanks Veranda! xx
