My Deep Tissue massage with Vicki was incredible and just what I needed. My body felt stress free and relaxed after this massage. She uses her feet which is astonishing and effective and the best massage ever!!
The resort is not large but well maintained, the rooms were clean and well supplied. There is no TV, but there is internet. The resort is a bit away from typical tourist attractions, but they offer a spa and courses for yoga, etc. A rental car is advised, although a taxi may suffice, the town of Paia is about 3 miles away, and the airport is about 7 miles (about $40 taxi fare, $50 with tip). A bit pricey but not bad compared to other hotels on the island.
A piece of peace in Hawai’i! Rory was a wealth of local knowledge. The pool scene rocked. No a/c, no TVs, no kidding. NOT missed, A veritable garden of Eden at the base of Haleakala. Makawao is wow. Mahalo
We loved Lumeria! Calm, relaxing, well located, quiet, liked the yoga classes. The only thing we would like to see improved...the bed was very creaky/noisy. The food and staff at The Wooden Crate was exceptional.
This is the second worst hotel we have ever stayed in... Our family was woke up by the front desk at 11:30pm to check and see “if we were in our room”. They were pretty disappointed that we actually were. They apparently overbooked. There was a bright outside light that kept us up the rest of the night that we could not turn off. All of our blinds were closed, but the light shined through the blinds and an upper window that did not have blinds or any other covering / window treatments. Our next door neighbor was having a heated discussion / argument as well. The following morning the staff was complaining about “visitors that had the audacity to place an order when a buffet is clearly offered”. 🙄 This is NOT a place I would stay at in the future or recommend to anyone.
Quiet, beautifully landscaped and lovely old Hawaiian charm. We had room 1a which is the most private. Did not take any of the myriad of classes but it would be a great place for a meditation or yoga retreat. Easy to get to Haleakala or the Hana Road.
The hotel is in desperate need of new towels. We were provided with towels that were low quality, threadbare and had holes in them. That is unacceptable when paying $479 + tax per night in addition to the $100 per guest for resort fee. At no other hotel have we paid a resort fee per guest. It is always per room. We also had a rude encounter with a staff member on Christmas Eve after we checked in at absolutely no fault of our own. The employee was very rude when they approached us about turndown service which we politely declined. Included breakfast was very disappointing. Cold eggs and frozen sausages three mornings in a row left us headed to the town center for morning meals. Our room had wads of dust on the walls and the rug smelled of mildew. The overall grounds and buildings were very pretty. The garden was very relaxing. There are some definite improvements to be considered before we would suggest this property given its price point. As a professional travel writer and photographer who reviews hotels regularly, I was sadly disappointed after very much looking forward to our stay.
Our last night. An assortment of homemade cookies and a handwritten note. Four nights here was wonderful. We didn't take advantage of the yoga classes or spa because we spent our days on Maui. But we returned to a blissful jacuzzi and excellent dinners each night. The environment of this lovely resort was landscaped with gorgeous tropical trees and flowers. My son busied himself with catching lizards and toads (released immediately, of course) and relaxing on the hammock in the ocean breeze. Although we are about twenty minutes from a beach, the solitude and beauty of this place was so tranquil and peaceful. The staff, including melissa, trey and the pastry chef, was so friendly and welcoming. The prix fix dinners were so delicious that we ate here every night and I wish I could take some of the salad dressings home! The decor in this historic plantation building was so romantic and edgy. We were impressed with the giant crystals and minerals placed throughout the resort. The birds singing, the breeze through the trees and the bright stars made this a memorable visit.
Bring earplugs and bug repellent, the walls are thin and mosquitoes rule. Delicious food, but not enough variety at dinner. Nice retreat, but there could be more selection of activities, like hiking, beach trips, etc. Massages were excellent, and staff was helpful.
My 10 year old daughter and I stayed here in August. I was interested in staying away from the ocean - something different. Lumeria is a wellness retreat that attracts the yoga crowd. Even though that's not what we came for, it provided a wonderful, peaceful atmosphere. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with some nice views down to the coast. The pool is tucked away and was enjoyed by my daughter. The building you stay in has some Maui history to it.
