This hotel is well appointed with spacious rooms, a fine restaurant and bar and lounge areas. The food is of good quality and the range offered is wide. All fine if you like cold food because even that which was meant to be hot wasn't. Disappointing that they can't sort out a simple thing like hot cabinets. The staff seemed under-trained. In the restaurant they consistently whipped our plates away as soon as the last mouthful was raised to our mouths. There was also a strange system in the bar - night after night the barman had to go to the restaurant to get a bottle of Mateus Rose, meaning a five minute wait, and on one occasion a lengthy queue. It seems short-sighted to have insufficient staff to deal with drink requests as we all know there is considerable money in drinks. The staff in the bar the first evening did not always ask for room numbers and seemed unconcerned about our large party ordering drinks. I heard, but have no first-hand experience, that in the pool there was a charge for everything, towels, flip-flops etc. I don't expect that in a hotel of this claimed quality - it should be included. The situation of this hotel is difficult. It is way out of the centre of Porto, about 20 minutes walk from the metro. This makes it okay for groups and business people who have transport, but would not be good for independent travellers without their own transport. All in all, good value for money, but with a little extra effort this hotel could be amazing.
The hotel is very tidy and the staff look well formed, even though they had many High School students as employees (from professional courses I believe). I had a standard double room on the 9th floor, which was very spacious and had a nice balcony. The bed was very large and comfortable, and it would be perfect if the headboard of the bed didn't had the fur peeling (from being old?). The bathroom was very good with 2 bath options, a bath tub for an imersion bath and a shower cabinet. I usually prefer the bath tub with proper curtains to allow to take a regular bath, but it wasn't the case. I can't consider this a negative point since I had the cabinet option. The breakfast is very good and I believe it can satisfy most people, I was very pleased with it. I also used the SPA, and the pool even though it is small is good for relaxation, and I also enjoyed a fine full body massage. To finish the review, the Hotel is a bit far from Porto center, you would need to use your own transportation method, or taxi to go from it to the city or airport. I believe they have proper underground parking on the hotel, but I left my own car outside in the regular parking spaces which were plenty.
It's a 15 minute drive away from the city center. The room was a good size and had a comfortable bed. In the room we found a mini bar, coffee and tea facilities and a great balcony with a great view. The breakfast was tasty with hot and cold items, many baked goods (sweet and salty), fresh fruit and vegetables. The reception staff were most helpful. We had a problem with our rented car and they contacted the car rental company and solved the issue.
So it's a nice hotel. Looks modern and it's clean but nothing really to write home about. The location is bland with absolutely nothing near by apart from allotments and stray cats. No shops at all. So it's a good 20 minute walk to the nearest metro. Food. Restaurant for dinner is a buffet. Serving average buffet food which some was cold namely the chip wedges and breaded chicken. Breakfast is also a buffet but again average with fruit selection and scrambled egg. No smoked salmon which is always a judge for me. Also the tables did not have salt or pepper (basic need) and other condiments were in small squeeze packets. Spa. Now that's a joke. I booked because I wanted to go swimming during my business stay but actually the pool is nothing more than a large bath. Swimming is not possible. Rooms are modern, clean and tidy. But other guest noise prevents an undisturbed sleep. I would not stay here again on my next visit. Defiantly go for somewhere nearer to the city and shops.
very nice and comfortable hotel. the rooms are spacious very clean and the furniture is new. the breakfast is excellent. the food is delicious and the presentation excellent. the personnel friendly the only disadvantage is the location . I will definitely go to this hotel when I will visit proto in the future.
Very nice modern good looking hotel, rooms are nice, well equipped and very comfortable, breakfast was amazing with plenty options, launch was not so good (food was salty, ice cream was very bad, etc).
From the room, staff, service and all the way to the food, this 4-star hotel reeks of mediocrity - begging me to once again question the star rating system. Although a handful of the staff members made the experience palatable with their friendly attitude, this hotel sadly has little going for it. And to top it off, the so-called spa is nothing if not a ripoff since you not only have to pay (per hr.) but also have to rent swimming caps and slippers. Who wears swimming caps in a spa?
AXIS PORTO BUSINESS AND SPA is a nice place and with nice people. Expresive enough and not so well situated this hotel has many facilities. The most interesting thing is the costs of taxies to the airport. If you come to the hotel the cost is 16 euro. If you go to the airport using the same road, the taxi driver will ask you another cost than that meadured by the aparatus which stoped at 20 euro. The driver will ask you 25 euro saying this is the payment agreed with the Hotel. The taxi driver also bring the hotel's correspondence. This is the sixth time when I experienced these differences of costs and this is unique!!!!
I have to admit - the hotel is modern, rooms are good... but... The location is not good - far from the center in a boaring neigborhood. The attitude towards my group (I am a tour guide) was rather formal and not friendly. Apart from most hotels in the smaller cities, they charge for water in dinners, they cfharge for using the swimming pool and they were very strict. No Portugeuse friendliness that you find in most hotels.
Hi, My husband and I (42) spent 4 days in Porto to celebrate New Year's Eve. I had already been 1X in this hotel for business, and as I enjoyed my stay, I decided to go back to this hotel, even if this time it was for leisure. As all the other guests, I can confirm .... this is a good choice! Good location, 5 min walk to get the metro. Easy to call a Uber driver to move around too, if you want. Really comfortable and nicely decorated rooms. A lot of choice at the breakfast buffet. Welcoming, smiling and helpful staff members. Thanks to Catia at the reception who took good care of us. We enjoyed a massage a the Spa. The relaxing pool, saune and hamman were really nice too. And this time the temperature of the pool was ok, 28 degrees. In conclusion: lovely stay. We will definitely come back to AXIS Porto!
