The Villa del Gelso, on the edge of the Etna park, about 800 m a.s.l., very close to the most beautiful paths of the park, a UNESCO heritage site, with its ski and hiking trails.
Exceptional solution for all seasons thanks to its large swimming pool, its two barbecues, one of which is internal, to the pizzeria with an ancient 18th century oven in light lava stone. The firewood is supplied, on demand, at special prices (not included in the rental cost of the villa). The house also has one jacuzi in the pool, a playground and high-speed internet connection. Ideal starting point for naturalistic excursions along the paths of Etna.

Etna Views at Mountainside Villa

Salvo was a very attentive host, always willing to help and make recommendations. The villa is nicely situated for Mount Etna, has 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms with a number of good restaurants nearby. A car is essential. Taormina and Catania are about one hour away.

Perfect villa for a relaxing holiday. Salvo and his family were very helpful, and the homemade pizzas in the wood fired oven were wonderful.

Cute house, friendly host

It’s a simple but cute house. Many little things didn’t work like the light in the pool or the broken cutting boards in the kitchen. The house is far away from other places or foodshopping places but nice view on the Edna and very calm. The host was very friendly and helpfull.

Spektakuläre Lage mit Blick auf den Ätna und das Mittelmeer

Die Villa liegt oberhalb des Ortes Giarre, ca. 10 km die sehr kurvige Straße hoch. Da der Ätna einige Tage zuvor Asche ausgestoßen hatte, waren die Reinigungskräfte bei unserer Ankunft noch dabei, die Außenanlage zu säubern. Die Übergabe klappte dennoch reibungslos. Leider verfügt die Villa nicht über die von Deutschen gerne genutzte Filter Kaffeemaschine, es waren jedoch zwei Espressomaschinen vorhanden. Nach anfänglich hitziger Diskussion stellte sich unser Vermieter als ausgesprochen nett, zuvorkommend und engagiert heraus, alle zwei Tage war er vor Ort und kümmerte sich um den Pool. Unübertroffen seine Restaurant Tipps, diese haben wir sehr genossen. Das Haus selbst ist toll, hier und da könnte man jedoch mit ein paar wenigen Handgriffen ein wahres Schmuckstück daraus machen. Fehlende (große) Kaffeetassen, fehlende Kaffeelöffel und angestoßenes Geschirr sind hier nur exemplarische Punkte. An einigen Kommoden (Vorsicht, es gibt nur einen Kleiderschrank in der ganzen Villa und der war mit Decken und Kissen belegt!!!) waren die Knöpfe kaputt oder haben ganz gefehlt, was jedoch vom Vermieter kurzerhand repariert wurde. Sei´s drum, wir haben es mit italieneischer Gelassenheit genommen und den Aufenthalt insgesamt sehr genossen. Prima, das Haus verfügt in jedem Schlafraum über eine Klimaanlage. Ganz toll ist der sehr schön angelegte Garten mit dem Pool, hier kann man prima verweilen. Allerdings gibt es nur vier Liegen (wovon eine kaputt war), was bei der ausgeschriebenen Personenzahl, das Haus soll für neun Personen ausgelegt sein, deutlich zu wenig ist. Zusammenfassend: ein tolles Haus, etwas abseits gelegen mit einem angenehmen Vermieter. Auf jeden Fall zu empfehlen, wenn man seine deutschen Erwartungen ein wenig zurückschraubt.

Gelände zum Wohlfühlen

Mit 2 Familien gab es genug Platz und Raum, um gemütliche Stunden in der Villa del Gelso zu verbringen. Der Kamin sorgte für Wärme im Esszimmer. Ein Highlight für uns alle war das vom Vermieter organisierte Pizzabacken im hauseigenen Pizzaofen. Es war einfach köstlich und so viel Pizza, dass wir 2 Tage davon essen konnten.
