This Riad is tucked away in the Kasbah region of Marrakech. Its a good 20 minute walk to the Medina, but most places are a walk in Marrakech. I cannot rate this highly enough for the friendly welcome and assistance provided to us. Hassan the manager and his staff are superb and are duly proud of what they do. They booked the taxi from the airport for me, which was a good move as we arrived late and you are taken to the door, which is quite tucked away and probably hard to find at night. Also we knew what the payment would be. This also saves you time changing money at the Airport as you can just pay the hotel at some stage. They also provided a meal for us, as you wouldn't really want to go out late at night to try and find food. This was really helpful. There kindness just kept coming in many requests we made, from booking a Hammas etc etc The Riad is a lovely retreat from the outside world, with a an exceptional terrace, albeit it was so hot in June we couldnt sit up there for any extended period, but it is lovely and you can see the mountains. Breakfast is simple but perfect and they will even serve you on the terrace. The meal options are very enjoyable too, worth having. The area in which its sited is the Kasbah and we found every one very friendly and happy to engage, there's a small prayer room at the corner of the road and we would respect there time there, obviously and got to know a few locals at prayer time. We were there during Ramadan, which can be trying for local people not to drink or eat when its very hot, please respect this. However they suddenly come more alive when they can eat at sunset, and its a delight to see them at this stage. If you're going to Marrakech then seriously consider this Riad, very much a local and traditional experience with very friendly people.
This is honestly one of the best places I've ever stayed... The staff were super helpful in organising trips and giving advise! Breakfast is awesome and The rooms are perfectly comfortable and well priced. The location of the Riad, which provides a beautiful getaway from the busy Medina, is perfect with everything in walking distance. I honestly don't want to leave! Would highly, highly recommend! Nothing quite prepares for walking into this historical building, which became home to us for a week. A warm welcome late evening followed by the the person on duty cooking us a simple meal without a demur. The accommodation was wonderfully quirky and we felt transported to a different age. In an old building such as this strange plumbing can be expected, but that did not concern us. They were extremely helpful in advising us how to get around the old city and in arranging an excellent trip to the mountains. Breakfast was a feast. They did not particularly promote their own evening meals, but produced good local food when we were too exhausted to go out. Everyone on the staff could not have been more helpful. We would highly recommend this Riad.
Walking into the Riad from the busy loud medina was a pleasant surprise as you wouldn't expect something as beautiful and calm as the Riad from outside the door. When we arrived, we were greeted beautifully with a friendly smile, moroccan tea and some moroccan cakes. This little gesture made our arrival very pleasant. We also pre-ordered our dinner which was nice to have it sorted on arrival. The meals at the Riad were excellent! Our first night we enjoyed a Tagine with beef, orange and almonds which was to die for! We found the staff to be very friendly, helpful, polite and very professional. The room was standard but clean and the location was close to all the sites to visit in Marrakech. Great stay!
The staff at Riad Jonan were so helpful and extremely welcoming. We didn't arrive at the Riad until 10pm but there was a lovely meal waiting for us which was delicious and excellent value. After each outing it was so lovely to return the the cool and peace in the Riad and we spent a lovely couple of hours in the beautiful Roof Terrace. I would definately recommend Riad Jonan. The only slight down side was that our room overlooked the restaurant and it was a little noisy when people arrived back late and rang the bell and in the morning when breakfast was served but it wasn't to early.
Good location (walking distance to the main sights in the Medina), charming atmosphere and decoration within the hotel, small but nicely decorated rooms, very helpful staff. A good base to explore Marrakesh and its surroundings.
This hotel is in the Medina of Marakesh. The rooms are small but the beds are comfortable. The service of the staff is excellent. This is where the hotel scores high. The breakfast is good and with in house personal service. Having dinner in the hotel is also a culinary delight and the food is delicious. It has the ambiance of the old Moroccan culture. Some of the rooms are very small and present a problem. The hotel is not far from the Marakesh Market and centrally located to other tourist activist. Marakesh is a diverse city with many mix cultures. The old and new city can be easily distinguished. 3.5/5
Pros: Superb Service. Very central location. Pretty Riad. Good breakfast. Good Terrace for relaxing. Cons: Shower was effective but basic, wash basin whilst pretty was slow running. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The pool is not for swimming. Location: Less than 30 minutes walking distance of most of the main attractions including Saadian Tombs, Djemma el-Fna, Souks and Koutoubia Mosque. We had a great stay at Riad Jonan. It was very good value despite being a 3* hotel. The hot/cold ample breakfast was served at your table (not buffet/eat as much as you like). It included orange juice, tea/coffee, bread/cakes and a choice of hot and cold main dishes including eggs, cereal, and fruit with yogurt. We managed to get a free upgrade to a superior room which was more spacious than a standard room and included a mini bar/fridge but no TV. A deluxe room is also available which is more spacious and includes a TV. The hotel can arrange airport transfers at an extra cost if required, or you can just pick up a taxi from the airport. The riad was clean and very tastefully decorated in the morrocon style of ceramics. The service from the staff (Hassan, Abdul & Yasin) was superb, who are very helpful in giving advice, planning your days and booking visits for some of the attractions. The private Hammam booked through the hotel was very local and superb but quite expensive. We booked an expensive one-night trip to the Atlas Mountains, Sahara Dessert which included a camel ride, dinner and simple basic breakfast with a stay in a tent. The trip was quite tiresome and most of the time was spent travelling to and from the edge of the Sahara dessert. I would suggest a day trip to the Atlas Mountains only. All in all a great place to stay at a good price. Thank you.
it was the first place we go to after arriving to Morocco, and it was more than wonderful, felt like a guest in someones home, and it was very clean and quite, the rooms are super cute, small but still very nice, the staff is super cheerful and wonderful and very helpful. the manager is a very nice lady who helped us plan our trips, its a beautiful place with excellent service.
Hassan, Abdul and the entire staff at the Riad Jonan was extremely pleasant. They went above and beyond to accommodate all of our needs. The hotel was centrally located, about a 15 minute walk to the main square. You will most certainly get lost but after a few times you'll get the hang of it. Be careful in the souks, the male vendors are savages and will take you for all you've got. Overall Marrakech is full of culture and I would most certainly visit Morocco again.
