Sadie u is exactly right in her review. My girlfriend booked here thro booking.com because we were going to a wedding. We booked a double room but would not let us complete. We rang the hotel to be informed ther was only twin rooms left. We said that was ok as long as the beds pushed together. Yes they will was the answer. So we travelled for check in . We paid £69 for the room.Ther were rooms for £49 or £74 with breakfast on the Britannia website. We chose no breakfast. On arrival at the hotel there was a sign taped on the reception counter that breakfast was £5 when ordered at recepion on check in. We queried this and the receptionist said yes it was wrong for people to see this sign on arrival after they had paid an extra £25 on ther £49 room for breakfast when they could have booked breakfast at check in which would have been a total cost of £59 rather than the £74 on the Britannia website. Disgusting. The receptionist told us a lot of customers had been changed to twin rooms as ther were no doubles . Now to our room. We entered. . . The smell of must was overpowering and listen to this there was a cabinet SCREWED to the wall seperating the single beds. At this we decided we couldnt stay ther so off to reception we went. The receptionist told us she said to us on the phone some single beds push together. This was not the case at all because we would not travel on a chance. We was then told she was not able to refund us and we would hav to go through customer services ???? We then went to the car with the leaflet only to find its only open weekdays. We then had to find somewhere else to stay in the short time before the wedding. Then came monday. My girlfriend rang customers services and was told they only deal with it via email and the receptionist should have told us this. My girlfriend laughed as to say all this for a refund for bad service. The attitude from the cutomer services was " what u laughing at " disgracefull attitude. A NEVER again experience so if your thinking of staying i would look elsewhere. We travel a lot but this has put a bitter taste in our mouths on the Britannia hotel chain.
we were greeted by this couple on our arrival.. very rude people in my opinion Sadie U “Worst Hotel Experience so far!!!!!” she missed out her comments stating the room was musty and how she wouldn't let the receptionist at least try and help going into the car park as I was unloading the car making derogatory comments about the hotel and staff. then coming back and getting free drinks shocking in my opinion how shallow then slating the hotel again laughable after this couple had gone we decided to book in, we were met by a lovely receptionist who was very helpful, who told us we were a little early and the room may not be done yet. we said no matter we will go up and see, she was happy to give us the key to our delight, the cleaner was just finishing the bathroom and had no problem with us taking the room. the room was 2 beds pushed together not a problem the room was clean and tidy, what you would expect as the pictures show breakfast was as expected, very hearty and plenty of choices the staff were friendly and the tables were cleaned promptly on the evening after we had been to a 25th wedding anniversay i stopped and had a drink dressed in full costume as shown in the pictures id like to thank the staff for making this a pleasant stay, it is what it is, but the staff are helpful and the hotel is well cleaned on our stay. we have been here before and will continue to do so maybe we can get a free drink if we complain about something, we are a little above that unfortunately I would also like to thank the Polish lads in the bar for making it a night to remember and thanking them for taking a few pictures earlier in the evening the staff member in question
Having just returned from a 5day coach holiday with David Urquhart travel staying at Britannia hotel wigan. As wigan is only just over 2 hours from Grimsby i cannot for the life of me understand how it took 6 1/2 hours to get there. There was eight pickups with three of these with only 2 people getting on at each surely the company could have a central pickup point. The hotel is very tired and in desperate need of an update. The easy access room was a family room with a converted bathroom not impressed. The food left a lot to be desired. On a trip to bury market the coach driver left 2 people stranded. On the second night we witnessed an altercation in reception with a youth with a knife who attacked the receptionist and the barman. So if you would like a trip like ours give it a go if you dare.
Decided to book through booking.com as my husband had a show to do in Burnley saturday. We booked a DOUBLE room only to arrive to find we were in a TWIN ... because apparently Friday day they knew they had no doubles left and had informed booking.com( I booked our room Friday at 730pm). We have never had an issue with Booking.com before as use it regularly. No apology no how can we make this right??? Until we returned at 10pm where Kirsty was apologetic and we had a complementary drink from the bar but still said it was not their fault. Staff are polite and friendly the ones we had contact with during out stay ( people on bar Saturday night and a young girl with glasses and plaits this morning) On arrival went into the room where I found whoever used room prior had not even flushed the toilet??? ( room cleaned obviously not properly) did not have a comfy night sleep either and the breakfast 7am till 10am... we went at 730am hardly anyone in but no beens no mushrooms left had to wait plus sausage was greasy and the scrambled eggs were cold!!! Croissants were hard like had been out for a longtime in a basket. Overall breafast worst we have had. Left it didnt eat it... We are putting in complaints to all parties involved... Will Not be recommending this hotel, or staying in a Britania hotel again... ( We got married in a Britania hotel 10 yrs ago no issues and a great day in Stoke). Britania hotel in Wigan is not giving the Britannia Hotel group a good reputation...
I honestly don't know what people expect. We stayed here for one night because it was the cheapest hotel in the area and if you are travelling on a budget it is ideal. It's only a couple of miles from the M6 and about 4 miles from Wigan town. It was clean and comfortable. Adequately sized en-suite room, comfortable bed, seating, small TV, tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast was just £5 each and was good. If I was being critical, I was disappointed that the coffee in the restaurant was instant, but apart from that I couldn't really find anything to complain about. The reception staff were friendly and helpful too. I would definitely return. There is a "Hungry Horse" pub across the road where you can get a really good value evening meal.
We've just returned from a 5 day coach holiday trip to the Britannia Hotel at Standish. We found the staff were all very friendly. Ok so the hotel needs modernising but you get what you pay for these days. Everything worked in our room, water was hot, shower quite powerful, and the room was warm. Only problem was that the doors close noisily. Food very acceptable and poached eggs every morning when requested. The buffet menu was interesting, but to have tuna salad for starter for 3 nights running was a little boring. There is no set allocated place where you have to sit in the restaurant every mealtime which made it friendly, and there was plenty of room to walk round each table. Our trip was a 2 for 1 for the bar each evening from 6 to 9 and we were pleasantly surprised that two pints cost only £2.20 in total and no problem with bar staff or cleanliness at all. Our room was on the ground floor overlooking the back car park, which was somewhat derelict and could do with a good weed and tidy up, but who looks out of their bedroom window in Standish? A good budget hotel.
Stayed at this hotel as we were guests at a wedding at a venue just 5/10 mins. drive away. Due to fact that the wedding ceremony as 1pm the reception staff organised for us to check in at 12 noon to take up our room and leave our baggage and car at the hotel. Our room was spacious and extremely clean. (comparable to a Travelodge room) The receptionist organised a taxi for us to the wedding venue. The breakfast next morning was plentiful. On the occasion that we stayed all staff were very welcoming and pleasant. This hotel is convenient as it is situated just off M6 motorway.Prices booked through Britannia are very fair.
Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed and told where our room was. The room was big enough for my husband and myself. Little bit of damp in the bathroom and on the extraction fan but nothing major for the price we paid. Nice stay over but this changed upon check out. My husband's car had been damaged very badly scratched with keys. We rung the hotel once we got back home they informed me that they would call back the following day which they didn't over a week on still nothing back apart from some excuse that a white van had parked next to his car over nigjt and blocked the camera which was a lie as he was parked next to the pavement. Terrible service and won't be returning any time soon
We stayed at Britannia in Wigan. Overnight Spent 10 mins trying to get in room As we went in there was a constant high pitched hum Closed windows as it was from building opposite As windows were closed Had problems with children knocking on service door and key card would not work properly
Attended a party here and certain things need looking at. The entrance to the party suite needs attention to see the outside with weeds growing from the floor is not what you would expect also inside the entrance to see a couch and two chairs with old trows over them is again not good it looked like a storage area. The staff need serious training, when you are charging very high prices for drinks you should expect a high level of service what you don't expect is to have lager served in warm bitter glasses anyone in the industry knows this is unacceptable as this will always give a flat pint but on top of that to have a dead spider in the drink....i don't actually blame the bar staff for this I blame the management for not giving training but still charging extemly high prices for substandard service. I never stopped in a room but going off the zero care they showed there customers that night I'm glad. Giving your customer a good service will ensure good feedback and return custom you really need to get your act together.
