Apartments location was very quite as we wanted for our trip. Apartment itself was good size as we booked one bed apartment with balcony. Room cleaning is not Doneeveryday as you get in most of hotel/apartments(own experience). But the staff was very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was nice
My wife and I Stayed here for 10 days in a studio apartment, the accommodation was nicely laid out but a little dated, the pool and restaurant was always busy with guests and locals which was sometimes crowded at weekends with children's parties, but shows it is good quality and reasonable. During the week things quietened down a little. Biggest problem was the noise from the French resort next door on a few occasions but this isn't a problem unless you are very sensative. We hired a car which was very useful for getting around.
I have just returned from a week here with my mum, and we had a really lovely stay. We were concerned having read some negative reviews about the location, but we were pleasantly surprised! I have to say, this place did not feel isolated to us. There are two beautiful cove style beaches, one a 15 minute walk and the second a 20 minute walk along a quiet windy street. The scenery was pleasant and both me (aged 29) and my mum (aged 52) found the walks quite lovely and a good way to stretch our legs on what was otherwise a lazy break! There is a short incline on the way back from the beach, but nothing difficult. As for the apartment, I would agree that some of the equipment looks dated, but everything worked perfectly and so one cannot complain. There was a kettle, microwave, coffee machine and two hobs which my mum easily boiled our morning eggs on. The crockery, pans and cutlery were all fine. The space was large, and we were lucky enough to be on the ground floor which meant we had a large balcony. We were also fortunate to be situated in the block furthest from the pool, facing in a direction which gave our balcony the sun from sunrise to sunset. We faced onto a grassy area with a few trees, where we spotted some local tortoises and lots of sparrows and other small songbirds. Beyond that were picturesque hills and we could also hear sheep bells in the distance. It was quite beautiful. No wifi in the room, and a pretty weak service in the reception area. It seemed to struggle when more than a couple of people were using it. Top tip - have an internet free break! There is a good regular bus service into Porto Cristo which my mum and I took twice - 1.85 euros per person each way. Watch our for Sundays though as the service is greatly reduced! On the second occasion we took a second bus from Porto Cristo to Cala D'Or - 6 euros per person each way. The fares are reasonable and the service makes it easy to get around, even without a car. There is also a tourist 'train' into Porto Cristo, but it's more than double the price and so my mum and I did not take it. Taxis are also readily available but we did not need to take one so I cant advise on cost. In terms of shops, there is one independent shop on the way to the nearest beach which stocks all necessities (10 minute walk). It takes card payments and there is a little cafe next door for snacks and drinks. We didn't try the cafe, but it seemed reasonably busy with locals from time to time. There is a larger Spar store in the main part of Cala Romantica which also takes card payments (15-20 minute walk). This shop should fulfill all grocery needs. Along with the usual milk, eggs, cheese etc it has fresh fruit and vegetables, freshly baked bread and pastries and a large selection of wines, beers and spirits. My mum and I found the breakfast buffet at Sol Romantica expensive at 10 euros each, and so we took a daily morning stroll to the Spar where we bought freshly baked bread and took breakfast on our balcony. So far as restaurants are concerned, we tried Sol Romantica and the one by Coco beach, which had lovely views. They both offered decent food at reasonable prices, but the latter does not take card payments so ensure you have enough cash. There is a cash point opposite the Spar. I was a little disappointed not to find tapas at either restaurant, although they both offer paella. There are also at least two other restaurants in the main part of Cala Romantica, but my mum and I did not get around to trying them. Overall, I would say do not be put off this place by previous reviews regarding location. It is not directly on the beach, nor is it in a bustling town, but it is very peaceful and there is plenty of transport and everything is easily walkable. I can only assume that previous reviewers are not walking people. If you are, I am sure you will enjoy your stay very much as we did.
The apartment was very nice, good sized lounge, big balcony, nice bedroom and bathroom. Things looked a little shabby in places but not a big problem. Breakfast always nice and fresh and you could sit out by the pool. Staff extremely helpful and friendly...nothing was too much trouble for them. Lovely swimming pool. Ate a couple of times at the restaurant and the food was very good quality - if you have a pizza, share it as they are huge,, and the flan is superb. Very reasonable prices too. Our only moan is that it is literally in the middle of nowhere. If you are a young couple on honeymoon, maybe this is the place for you. We needed a car to get anywhere as too far to walk anywhere with shops and bars. The buses were great but stopped early at night coming back from Porto Cristo and taxis were fairly expensive.
the Sol Romantica could be so much better. It is in need of a facelift, the sun beds were all old and need replacing. The pool is lovely. It said a short walk to the beach, but it was a very steep walk back up, The buses are few and far between, and very crowded, so car hire is essential for a few days, we had to get a bus to hire one though. The closest shop is down the very steep hill. It is a very quiet area. The breakfast in the apart hotel was very expensive, 10 euros for a full english. The room had just been updated, but there were no drawers, so piled everything around the room.Lovely patio, overlooking some tennis courts. There was a large fan, which we needed, it was very humid. Not a bust place at all.
Just stayed here again for our holiday and it wasn't as good. The room was very tired our two single bed your against a wardrobe with the doors taken off! The rooms need a bit of a makeover. The complex is well looked after but sun beds again showing their age. The food was again of excellent quality but the service was a boy hit and miss on two occasions we had to hunt down someone to get our order .One evening 2 hours from time of sitting down to receiving our meal. My biggest gripe however is on a weekend when the locals arrive and take over the pool and gardens. From a relaxing quite chill out to mayhem on minutes with loud boisterous children taking over the pool screaming and running amok between your sun beds whilst parents do nothing all to leave and do the same the next day. They have total disrespect for guests staying here. It spoils a lovely relaxing place and we won't return again .
Lovely poolside accommodation with sea views. Excellent food in the restaurant including tasty Solromantica speciality dishes. Multilingual helpful staff. Attractive, unspoilt location. Pretty sandy beach and shop at Cala Romantica within walking distance or by local transport. Friendly relaxing atmosphere. The busier Cala Mendia beach, shops and restaurants are also not far away.
Have just returned from spending 14 nights here. Apartment was spacious and more modern than we had expected. Good private balcony and adequate crockery etc. The downside for us was definitely having no kettle and lack of cleaning. Our towels were changed three times but the floors or loo never cleaned in all that time. Pool area was spotless and a great place to chill out provided you dodged the sprinklers which were often on first thing in the mornings!! Restaurant was good and fairly priced. The roast chicken was excellent. We had a car and this resort was excellent for visiting all parts of the island.
Myself and my partner have just got back from our holiday to Mallorca where we stayed in the apartments at Sol Romantica. Here's what we thought... The good: The main highlight of the stay was the restaurant/bar attached to the apartments. We ate some wonderful meals there and the prices were really reasonable. There was a mixture of Spanish dishes and "global" dishes like burgers, spaghetti Bolognese etc. The pool was lovely and the area around the pool was nice and clean and contained. Definitely relaxing! The local taxi service was amazing! Most of the drivers spoke English and the longest we had to wait was 5minutes. It made getting out and about really easy as we didn't hire a car. The bad: Although this isn't necessarily the fault of the apartments itself, we booked through Teletext Holidays under the pretence that this was an adult only complex. WRONG!!! It seemed like the pool was public use for local Spanish families and international guests with children in tow. It's also not really near anything, which was part of the attraction for us. But the nearest shop was a hefty down then up hill walk- and in the heat was best avoided! The ugly: The apartment was ugly. Wow. It was full of mismatched furniture and not much else! The bathroom was lovely and looked modern but all other parts of the apartment looked dated and worn. Despite booking a double room, we had a twin room. The kitchen facilities in the apartment were basic, to say the least! There was 2 hobs, a sink, a microwave, a toaster, a coffee filter machine and a fridge. Cooking space was smaller than anything I've ever seen before! And there was no kettle. Also, there was no air con. We had an old style ceiling fan and a free standing modern fan. But they basically just blew hot air at us. Needless to say, we struggled to sleep most nights. Overall, we made the most of it; but the holiday certainly lacked in some areas that meant it wasn't as good as it could have been.
Having always insisted that a holiday in Mallorca would be my worst type of holiday, I was more than pleasantly surprised and truly enjoyed the 6 nights here in August with hubby and 3 daughters (14, 11 and 9 year old). Yes, it is quite isolated and we didn't hire a car but we weren't looking for nightlife, full-on entertainment nor shopping. We just wanted a quiet relaxing break to enjoy quality time with the children (without gadgets) and without the pressure of getting up early every morning to go sightseeing! We spent 3 days down at the beach (7 hours each time!), 1 day on site, a day in Porto Cristo (visited the Coves del Drac also) and an amazing day full of fun at Aqualand. It was a 15 min walk downhill to the Estany d'en Mas/Cala Romantica beach (there is a shop en route to buy daily provisions) and a further 15mins (uphill) away to the Spar supermarket and a cluster of restaurants. Our room was only basically equipped so it was a great excuse to eat out every night! We were able to prepare picnics for our days out though and freeze drinking water in the small fridge freezer. We ate in the Sol Romantica restaurant 3 times and were very impressed by the food (especially the paella) and then ate at 3 other restaurants for the other nights. The beach was beautiful, the sea was crystal clear, calm, warm and shallow enough in some areas. It was hot but the slight breeze made it bearable. We hired a parasol and 2 loungers for £13.40 for the day. On return in the late afternoons, the kids hit the pool for even more swimming. The pool was relatively quiet at this time. The only time we encountered a busy pool was on the Sunday when we decided to stay on site (to avoid the weekend crowd on the beach) as parties of local visitors came to use the pool and restaurant. We ended up without loungers that day but couldn't be bothered to complain. The kids thought it was one of the best holidays they've had even though they have been thoroughly spoilt in the far away destinations they've visited and colourful cultures they've experienced. I guess sometimes, we do need a holiday where we can just chill, and recharge (as well as enjoying the sand and the sea!).
