We stayed here from 7-14 May 2017. Although a bit dated it was very clean and comfortable. The hotel has narrow frontage and runs a long way down a side street which can be noisy at night (Mostly people just being a bit rowdy and thoughtless in the early hours). It is in a very good position directly opposite the seafront walkway with easy access to the numerous buses. The is a good selection of Restaurants within a short distance in either direction. We stayed half board and had breakfast every morning which was very well presented with a lot of choice (i.e., Full English, Continental, Fresh Bread, Toaster, Fruit, Cereals , Yoghurt, etc, etc). In the Evening there was a full Menu available which was posted during the afternoon so you could decide to stay in or go out. This consisted of a choice of a couple of Starters, Several main courses, and Sweets/cheese and biscuits to follow. This was done on a serve yourself basis and you could go up as many times as you liked. The cost of this was a 15 euros for residents. There are three bars which included one in the Foyer, a 'Pub' style Bar upstairs and also a Pool Bar (with a Roof pool) on the roof (although this wasn't in use in May). On the Thursday night there was a very good Maltese Country Singer (she has made six albums) who was very good indeed with a great voice and an incredible repetiore of material including being able to sing just about any request she was asked. Our room and Bathroom was cleaned very well every day with change of towels etc, whenever requested. Really the only problem I had was on the Saturday night I wanted to settle up as we had a very early flight on the Sunday morning. I was told that this wouldn't be possible until after 10pm and that there were not facilities to do it early in the Morning. Apart from that the staff are typical of the Maltese friendliness which is Legendary.
I had read several reviews of this hotel after I had booked it. Some were a little derogatory. However I can comment that this was a really nice hotel.Yes I agree it needed upgrading but the staff and service were second to none. We had a lovely room with a sea view and were advised beforehand that it could be noisy. The room was clean with a nice ensure with complimentary toiletries. The only comment I would make that a mattress enhancer would be nice. All the staff were friendly especially in the restaurant where we ate a lovely varied breakfast each morning. We tried the bar one evening where there was a fantastic country singer playing. I was convinced she was Irish in fact she was Maltese. The hotel is ideally situated and yes as one comment made was that it was like a saga outlet there were a large number of older people there but they were great. I really recommend this hotel we will be going back.
The Diplomat Hotel is a nice hotel in Sliema area close to sea and seapromenad. The hotel is a bit outdated but the rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly. Breakfast is typical English. There could be some more variation . The WIFI was free but very slow. I had a nice sea view.
This hotel is centrally located in Sliema, rated as four star. We had a large room, which was clean on our arrival. Good en suite, plenty of hot water. The room was cleaned daily. We took the half board option. All the meals were to a good standard and various options were available, with a different menu daily. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is an excursion rep in the foyer most mornings, we took advantage of her advice and had some great days out. Sliema is noisy generally, our room air conditioner balanced out the outside interference. The Sliema ferry is a short walk, or you can take one of the many buses to get around. €1.50 gets you into Valletta bus station for all connecting buses, your original ticket will still be valid up to two hours from time of purchase, fantastic value. I would use this hotel again
I stayed here with my elderly parents for a week. We were given adjoining rooms which were clean, tidy and perfectly satisfactory. I had the best shower & waterflow I've ever had in a hotel. Overall the place is dated but it's homely and very friendly. Breakfast was great the evening meals ok but not amazing. The staff were all helpful especially Evelyn who was so lovely with my parents ! The location was great. Easy to get the bus and to organise the hop on hop off tour bus which I recommend.Valletta is an amazing place beautiful & full of history. We had a good holiday and quality time together...........
The Diplomat Hotel is a nice hotel close to the busstops and the beach. The hotel is a bit outdated but the rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly. Breakfast is typical English. There could be some more variation. It is also possible to have diner at the restaurant. There is a buffet every night. The WIFI is free but very slow.
Maltese star ratings are often ambitious, this is not a 4*, more akin to a 3*, however a very pleasant lobby with small bar greets you, and the hotel is on the seafront and main bus route, and a short walk to the shopping area of Sliema. Staff were generally very helpful and welcoming, with the exception of the two reception staff we had contact with, who were surly and not welcoming at all. The room, a double on the 5th was clean and well equipped, but in need of a makeover, felt very 1980's with some worn furniture, the tiny balcony faced a side street and other balconies, and the 'partial sea view' could be mastered with difficulty. Great breakfast choice, all very fresh though the machine coffee was grim.
The localtion is good and we had a sea view room on 7 floor so we got an incredible view from our room. Just a few steps to the bus stop where you can take local buses to many places around the island. The breakfast is good with enough options. Although the furniture in the room is old and worn out but the cleanness is good. We bought the dinner inclusive but the buffet had not many choices and no coffee. The staffs at the restaurant are friendly, at least tried to be. A lot of noises at the restaurant unfortunately not from the guests but the most of the times from the restaurant staffs, they talked each other, spoke to guests and dropped things on the floor and so on. It was very unpleasant feeling we got when we were eating there. We don't want to stay at the restaurant, not even one minute after having food. The restaurant is located at the underground (-1 floor) which might also be one of reasons why it gives a such bad feeling. When we arrived, we were told that the hotel had problem with its booking system which resulted in that the hotel was overbooked and we were arranged to stay a nearby hotel called Winsor Hotel for our first night.
Hotel is very old and have humidity smell, but it has a good location. Walking distance to ferry stops and Slieme city center. Hotel has really a rich and good breakfast. Wifi connection is weak in rooms. Rooms are small. Cleaning is so so. There are small tears on the sheets. For 2-3 nights stay, it is ok.
We stayed at the Diplomat at the end of our 9 days in Malta and Gozo. We found the location perfect, the staff helpful and friendly, the breakfast was a real delight, a buffet with a good selection of nourishing and delicious foods, our room clean and roomy and comfortable.
