Stayed at this hotel for 5 night summer 2017. It was clean & tidy. Breakfast was good with lots of choices. Closed also to other cities i.e Sleima & Julian. The main reception was very helpful and they arranged our tour around like popeye village and night tour. This hotel is recommended especially if you're on a budget.

Positive: -Clean rooms. -OK location. Negative: -Wifi did not work in my room. Receptionist only shrugged when informed of this. Had to spend 3 days without wifi. -Only 1 power outlet. None near the bed or bedside tables. -Dirty tea-stained cups provided.

Stayed at the diplomat for two night. Hotel is ok.. was actually happy with the location and room. My low rating is due to staff treatment. I will start from the moment we walked through the door. We arrived early and asked if we could check in early. The front desk said yes but the rooms where not ready(no problem there, this was expected). We asked if there was a place to leave our luggage(this was the first incident) we got the stare of death. No additional information was given. In the am, we went for the free breakfast. There was no sign explaining where the breakfast area was. We sat at the cafe in the hotel and had coffee and some old cold pastries. The gentlemen knew that we where hotel guests but never informed us that this was the wrong area for the free breakfast (i felt this was a tactic to have us pay). There was no other sign on the lobby pointing to the breakfast area. Both the gentlemen at the cafe and his manager failed to show me where there was a sign pointing to the breakfast area(there was none). The manager (which on my opinion is the highest ranking person at the hotel) was not able to give me a clear answer and stated she needed to talk to her superiors(i’m not familiar with hotel ranking structure) but if you are the manager. You are the superior. One last issue, if you need to get work done in your room. Forget about that. Internet would not connect to save my life. As soon as you get to the lobby the internet is fast and smooth. Good hotel but staff left me with a negative impression that customer does not come first.

We stayed at the Diplomat for the first week in November, we were greeted warmly by the ladies on reception and given a non alcoholic welcome drink by the barman in the lounge bar. Our room was on the second floor and was comfortable and spacious with a large bathroom we also had a mini fridge and tea and coffee making facilities in our room. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful with lots of choices we also took advantage of an offer of 3 evening meals for €30 and these were good value the meals were very good and buffet style so you could eat as much as you want. The staff are very friendly and work very hard especially the restaurant, bar and cleaning staff. We didn’t go in The Pub as this wasn’t always open as it wasn’t in season also the pool bar wasn’t open due to the time of year. The hotel is well placed right on the seafront and halfway between Sileima centre and St Julian’s and it’s a lovely walk on the promanade to both. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Stayed here for a week. Basic hotel but clean. Good size room that was cleaned daily and plenty of hot water. Dated decor and virtually non existent balcony. Because of the side street location and surrounding high buildings, room remained dark and dingy all day. Good location for exploring and bus stop not far from hotel . Bus ticket €1.50 and lasts for 2 hours . Beware of breakfasts at this hairy oranges in the fruit bowl and flies flying around pastries. We survived on toast and fried eggs but ate out every night. So , if like us, you just want a basic bed for a week to explore Malta from , then it's fine, but don't expect luxury and fine dining!! Top tip....take ear plugs, the bin men arrive at 0600 daily.

we have just returned from a 3 week holiday at this hotel. the reception staff were rude, sarcastic and unhelpful. at breakfast things often run out and are not replaced unless you ask. Check that the dishes/plates are clean before you use them. Breakfasts were ok until we found live maggots in the raisins. At first the manager made no effort to investigate this and eventually grudgingly apologised. If you dine in the evenings be sure to arrive early as the food can stand for 3 hours. Be sure to check the fruit as the oranges are often mouldy.

An excellent weeks holiays made most enjoyable by friendly staff and good service. Breakfast the meal of the day and plenty of food at dinner. The only negative which is not the hotels fault is poor television at night. A social place at night like a busy bar would be an advantage but this is only a small point and perhaps in the summer it is different.

Good situation on waterfront with a promenade running along between St Julian and Sliema. Short walk down to Sliema harbour and ferry across to Valetta.Longer mainly level walk to St Julians. Reception area is very modern and smart with a cafe / bar at street entrance. A second bar, Le pub, up stairs off reception with local entertainment 3 nights a week. Room was spacious with twin beds and dark furniture. Decor could be improved with lighter coloured bedding and soft furnishings. Adequate bathroom with over bath shower, powerful and hot water at all times. rooms kept very clean. Restaurant busy and a little cafeteria like but a good choice at breakfast. Buffet style dinners with a choice of hot mains which changed nightly. Friendly staff.

The Diplomat Hotel, rather dated, is situated between St Julian's and Sliema bay. Locally rated 4 star is by British and German standards no more than a three star. Almost all rooms face a narrow dark side street leading off the promenade. An upgrade, well worth the small cost, offering views along the promenade and across the bay. Rooms need renovation, air conditioning turned off. Pillows consist of stiff foam and are very uncomfortable. Restaurant is just acceptable. They have a habit of running out of things, no sugar for breakfast. Breakfast has a good choice, but the cooked food was never warm, at best tepid. Buffet dinner, again, seldom hot. A pleasant coffee shop/bar serving light snakes is located facing the promenade. No evening entertainment. A small library and bar, first floor (19:00-23:00) . Bar seldom open. There is a rooftop pool on the 8th floor. Gym and Sauna, keys from reception. Staff are very helpful going out of their way to please. I visited with a group therefor have no idea of the room rate. I suspect you get what you pay for. A good functional hotel, but don't expect luxury. Busy main road running between hotel and promenade. Local buses (12&13) run every fifteen minutes into Valletta. Buses do get very crowded. The promenade walk takes about 40 minutes one way, and very rewarding. Peter m.

After looking at reviews was wary of booking but price was good and also location. Rooms were clean. Looked like bathrooms had been updated. Rooms were a decent size. We didn't feel they were outdated but they were oak. Staff were all friendly and breakfasts were perfectly adequate. Only booked b&b as plenty if choice very nearby.
