We had a bad time between 4th of September and 14 September 2017. Please take a look at the picture of our room. You can make your own mind up but the room was 802. We couldn't even have a wash and no choice but to have one night in the room. Was moved the next day but this room wasn't much better.
Booked because of reviews saying it was okay for family and couples but found a Basic hotel with lack lustre fixtures and fittings and staff that reflected this too. The good staff were constantly let down by the poor ones with chaotic scenes at mealtimes as tables were not cleared and order not kept with who was sat where. Twice we came back to our table with food to find others sat there. Air conditioning consisted of a ceiling fan and blower which didn't bring the room temperature down sufficiently coupled with waterproof plastic coated mattresses made for poor sleeping conditions. The evening entertainment was virtually non existent unless you count line dancing pensioners 4 nights a week and karaoke for 1 night then football on TV the others. Pool was clean and kids enjoyed this As a 39 year old I found it increasingly frustrating that the entertainment was poor compared to the bars surrounding the hotel who had live acts in without issue. The Food served was great which was one of the better things about the place. Great place for the old or over 55's as the pace of service will suit the slower person. Not for the outgoing or young.
A realistic and honest review lets start with the GOOD POINTS 1. location is good near bus station and central for shops and restaurants, pubs. 2. staff mostly friendly and helpful 3 rooms clean and beds comfortable, safe, fridge and all with balconies 4. mostly older clients very few kids 5 breakfast was average for a budget hotel BAD POINTS 1. Found ants and cockroaches in our room 133 and reported it. Room is noisy as it was next to street where Elvis Bar is and early 5 am dustcart. Did not manage to get a room change. So try to avoid the rooms on this side. No kettle but you can hire one and safe is about E15 for a week. 2. Food we were on an all inclusive but although it was cheap I would rather go self catering. Went once to breakfast and it was chaos, people everywhere , run out of forks, knives etc. The bacon ,sausage, eggs, fried, poached, boiled, fried bread, beans, continental with cakes etc. NO FRUIT. Recommend to go early or later to avoid traffic as if you are like me , I don't like crowds in the morning. OR what we did one day was order a pack lunch the day before and have it for your breakfast as we are not big eaters. Pack lunch was ham and a cheese sandwich, fruit and cheese spread and crackers but no water ? You can get snacks from the bar from 10am to 3pm so you can have something there tuna salad, burger, toasties etc There is NO BOTTLE WATER or ICE CREAM on all inclusive ?? You will not be allowed to use your own mug to take tea/coffee/juice from dining hall or take any food. Lunch is salad and was usually our best bet as the other hot food was not too good. Dinner was not too good in my opinion , salad was ok with hot food hit and miss, pasta and soup. Dessert bought in cake, chefs jelly and apple crumble ok. ALL INCLUSIVE DRINKS -NO BOTTLE WATER , spirits cheap local and in my opinion not good. Beer was just ok. Swimming pool one indoor smelt strongly of chloride the outdoor pool small and uninviting. enough sunbeds but never saw a shower and beside that nobody bothered to shower anyway, Personally I did not wish to use the pool for fear of catching something although in fairness I did see a man test the pool but did not know the result. There is a small jacquzzi and sunbeds on roof. Entertainment , there is something on most nights from 8pm, Wednesday is just football on the TV, Denny D'vito on a Tuesday is not a good singer but he is good entertainer, funny and has a good rapport with the guests. As this is an older guests hotel mainly British I would have thought a BINGO night would go down well. TV in the room has very limited channels SkyNEWS, CNN , TVMalta and italian. Could do with other film channels. WIFI waste of time, even if you buy it, so don't. You can sit in other pubs and cafe's with free wifi. Overall this is NOT a hotel for family with kids as this caters for mainly British pensioners on long or short stay holidays. We did not enjoy our stay, mainly because we thought the food and alcohol was poor and decided to check out a day early. CHECK OUT- I wish I had recorded it as you would not believe the logic of the young girl on the reception. My partner returns the keys to the receptionist at 1215 and tells her we are checking out. She says ,"Madam you are supposed to check out at 1100"! then my partner says,"We are checking out a day early"! The girl says, " how can the girl clean your room to get it ready for the next person if you are checking out now"? in an argumentative tone of voice. HELLO wake up ,we are going a day early and have paid for the room up until tomorrow so we can go whenever we feel like it but I am afraid the receptionist could not comprehend this DAA! The worst thing about this we have booked another stay here which I am desperately trying to cancel or change,
It was in a nice location, the staff was extremely kind. It was always a parking lot around the hotel. If you look a good budget place to stay that is a good choice. I also really liked the idea of the swimming pool on the rooftop.
if you want somewhere that has good food friendly staff and comfy beds then this is the place. its located by the sea and bus station so access to anywhere in Malta, for only a couple of euros.or the staff can arrange your own transport for you...... pick up and drop off. don't get rooms (16-17-18-19)on any floors ... (free wi-fi in reception.) but you have to pay for anywhere else.
We booked the Canifor Apartments for 3 weeks as a base while we looked for a permanent apartment.... The place is cheap and basic. If you want a bit of luxury, this place is not for you! It is kitted out with a small cooking area complete with all the basic things you'd need for making meals. The maid services is great, our rook was cleaned every day, unless we used our Do no disturb sign. We had fresh Towels and our beds were made. You will be close to a wide variety of shops, bars, resturants and attractions, although if you like an early night, you might need ear plugs as there are a few bars with live music with in spitting distance. The Hotel is a 30 second walk from the apartments and you have access to the indoor, salt water pool complete with Sauna and Jacuzzi. Vry relaxing! Or you have the our door pools perfect for all ages! My own real bug bear wass the lack of accessable plug points! only one in a bedroom for four people and 3 in the kitchen living room area. It makes being glued to your phone pretty difficult but it's not the end of the world.
Was in room 808.....4th floor!! Start with the good side... Location superb and near all amenities etc. Bed comfortable and aircon was excellent needed that in July. Had two seaviews one from the bedroom although you could see the sea but not in any greatness. Front balcony again you could see the sea if you looked left and in truth a rather nice sun rise. Bads? Shower resulted in a mini-flood as an equal amount of water went on me as the floor. TV? A right dodgy looking thing dangling there with an even more dodgy looking freeview box? underneath it!! All in all for what i paid i can't complain i mean i slept at night and emerged clean the next day. What more do you want? As a self-catering apartment to use as a self catering apartment? I doubt it but you can eat out in WoodHut, Knickerbockersor Red Lion cheaply and am all for supporting the local bars.
We had a fabulous stay in the Canifor apartments, for what we paid which was buttons our apartment was cleaned every day! We couldn't fault anything at all, the staff are really lovely. There was entertainment every night, we had a laugh with Tony the barman! Our family have visited this hotel numerous times and will continue to do so! Well done to all the staff, you are all a credit to this hotel. See you all very soon! ❤️❤️❤️😘
Oh boy, we were there for a week, so I'll start with the positives - the location is good, just a few minutes from the bus station, the aquarium and the classic car museum. The cleaning service was good, we're slobs, and to come back to all our shoes lined up in pairs was very sweet. The air conditioning was excellent, which was essential for a pasty Scottish/Scandinavian tundra-dweller like myself. And now the negatives - of which there are many. This is basically a step up from a youth hostel. We were in a four person apartment which had a tiny living room, a bathroom and a dormitory style bedroom with four tiny single beds consisting of a cheap chipboard frame and a cheap mattress. We'd been sold the holiday on the basis that we would be all-inclusive guests in the 4 star hotel bearing the same name, so to arrive and discover that our actual rooms were in something that barely deserved two stars came as something of a shock. We were also only given one key for the room - not ideal when you have several people sharing who may all be doing different things and need access at different times. In short, it was a hole, and we spent as much time away from it as possible. Which actually meant we had a much more active holiday that we might not otherwise have had, so I'm relatively sanguine about it. Our holiday, as already mentioned, was all inclusive, which mean we were given access to the main hotel for meals, entertainment, and use of the (tiny and freezing cold salt water) pool. The hotel seems to cater mainly to golden agers - almost everyone there was around retirement age, and either British or Italian, and the menu was definitely on the heavy stodgy end of the scale. Beware the leftovers - they'd had an event on Saturday night, and the leftovers were fed to the guests on Sunday - the result of this was that a great many people came down with food poisoning during the night - myself included. As for the evening entertainment - as mentioned above, it was all geared for the elderly. Mainly an aged crooner singing the hits of the 1950s accompanied by his Hammond organ. We spent most evenings in the deserted downstairs bar playing card games. To summarise - I was not impressed. If I'd been looking for a sunbathing and pool holiday, with fun in the evenings, I'd be enraged, but as I really just wanted a base with aircon to sleep in while I explored Malta, it just barely did the job (although if we'd found the cockroach on day 1 instead of day 7 things may have been different).
The apartment leaves a lot to be desired oven disgusting also pans and bread bin, Tv is fron the dark ages bedding very clean and towels changed every day cleaners do a fantastic job in very hard conditions take your own travel iron there is no Toaster And we had to go buy a pan for cooking .we were self catering so ate out which we found was better. We ate a lot at knickerbocker cafe. Which was by the bus station a breakfast was only 3.90 euros and there was lots more at very good prices there is a great pub called murphys Irish pub the drinks are very reasonable and they do a cheese and ham toasting around 2 euro. And great entertainment. There is also waitress service. By Chloe and Nicky who are fantastic we were in Malta last year and bought the weekly bus pass for seven euro. This time we had to pay 21euro each for a week Don't know how they can justify this price. My advise is just to pay each trip on the bus as you go we only used the bus three times. If your going all over the island then the pass would be better, the day we came home we bought sandwiches from a place called d and k lunch box which is just up from the hotel wow what sandwiches nice people and the shop is very clean and prices are fantastic will be going back next year Although maybe another apartment
